Elbphilharmonie LIVE | Wayne Marshall plays Bernstein, Widor, Ager, Baker & Beethoven at the organ

He is a genius on the organ, and a charismatic conductor, composer and entertainer: Britain's Wayne Marshall can do church music and jazz, Bach and Broadway - and has a worldwide fan community. To mark the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, he improvises in the Elbphilharmonie on themes written by the great composer. To start with, he plays major works from the French organ repertoire, a complex Toccata and Fugue by his Canadian colleague Andrew Ager, and an improvisation on music by his artistic lodestar Leonard Bernstein.

Thrilling concert Maestro Marshall! The Widor 6th Symphony was simply breathtaking. As a lifelong jazz aficionado and jazz vocalist, I’ve always been a fan of your jazz harmonies and arrangements going all the way back to your CD of improvisations on the Meyerson Fisk. The opening tribute to Lenny Bernstein was a stroke of genius and really showed off the jazz capabilities and registrational possibilities of this fairly new symphony hall instrument! Yet another world class instrument by Orgelbau Klais. ❤️
