The mental thing was a huge one for me. I ended up in the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. Turns out it was "only" a panic attack. I felt so silly and stupid for wasting everyone's time for something that "wasn't a big deal."
The doctor and the nurses quickly shut that down. They were so kind, and asked if I was super stressed. I was in the process of quitting a much loved job at the time, and I was. In addition to telling me to make an appointment with my GP, they recommend seeing a councilor if I felt it appropriate, told me to take a few days off and to do some things that relax me. I felt so validated that it was serious and I was right to come in.
There's no "only" about a panic attack. People with them are regularly convinced they're dying. That's huge and should 100% be taken seriously. I am so glad that the medical professionals you saw treated this experience, and you, with the level of respect and seriousness warranted.

A Counsellor will help
i get panic attacks somewhat frequently, so i know how awful they feel, and it makes me so happy to hear they were so understanding and took you seriously. like im absolutely over the moon. im so glad they validated you and i hope youre doing well!
i also wanted to share that when my mom witnessed me having a panic attack for the first time, she absolutely thought i was having a heart attack, because i kept grabbing at my chest and saying i couldnt breathe (but was not in the right state of mind to articulate what was happening beyond that). it apparently scared the life out of her. panic attacks are much more serious than some people realize and i hope more doctors react the way yours did.

My brain:" Three, take it or leave it"
'Take it or leave it' LMFAOOO
Has a husband who used to be up in 5 hours. Doctor Mike adds "on average.." riiiiight.. Some people really do more or less sleep than average.
I have no idea how many hours of sleep I get.
I love it when people tell me they regularly get 3-4 hours of sleep a night. Absolute horseshit. Do I believe you got 3-4 hours of sleep once or twice this last week and you’re embellishing? Sure. But don’t feed me that shit, you’d die on 3 hours a night.
@@cmccoy1 I wrote this comment at 3 am. I don't think I'm lying.
8:42 I remember that very year (2019) I realized I had a really bad physical state; I ate so much pasta in a week (no fruits, vegetables, meat or other stuff), I was sleepy all day, constant headaches, and when I started struggling with insomnia I went to see a doctor. My triglycerides were at + 300; and instead of giving me a diet or medication, my doctor told me to check my mental health first because she wanted to find the root of the problem.
Turns out I had depression, and because of that I got inside a cycle of no energy to cook -> eat poorly and get no energy.
I bought veggies that rot after a while because I didn't felt like making a salad. I bought meat but I always forgot to defrost it. I couldn't exercise because I felt really tired all the time.
Once I started therapy, I was able to get out of that cycle and lower my levels; though I still struggle sometimes nowadays.
I'm curious about your current state. I hope you're feeling better now.
I think creating a “Why is the doctor or nurse asking this” info poster might be a good way to go about informing the general public about why they need to be honest and it also clarifies what the info is used for.

But one thing to note regarding doctor-patient confidentiality - there's usually exceptions to the rule (besides GSWs): if you express intent to harm yourself or others. The problem is that this exception gets bent - like with drug use. Not only have docs broken the rule, some go so far to call cops or child-social services if they suspect the patient will go on using drugs after the appointment, usually making the situation for the patient and his family far worse. I'd love to hear you address that and report on your experiences and what you've heard from other docs. Love your videos, thanks a lot :)

Teachers forcing kids to sit:
Jen Scarpaci for elementary kids it's pretty easy to keep moving but middle and high school it gets a lot harder
Ah yes of course, every single teacher has complete control over how much time they teach.
This is a joke, administration could fire you if you take class time to stand up. You’re missing learning time. Just try to exercise when you get home
My chem teacher literally wouldn't let us stand for more than like 30 seconds at a time
Over all school makes it difficult for kids. It's played a good part in why stress, depression and anxiety levels are so high in pre-teens and teens. Not moving around much in middle and high school when you are already going through hormonal changes is not healthy. It's even worse for students... who let's say got surgery on their entire spine when they were a going to be a freshman. An entire fusing of the spine forced to sit for hours and then make it to the next class, wherever it was in the school within five minutes. That's just one circumstance where there is a situational obstruction to the already haphazard set up of being a student. My mental health actually became worse after school though because I had friends to distract me and then a long term relationship which was all new to me in high school. Now, after another surgery on my back which caused me to stop going to university, which was the only thing that helped with depression after spending years at the end of high school submerged in it because I wasn't going anywhere with myself.. I've fallen into a situation of no distractions like friends or relationships to keep my mind from depression. I mean who really needs to have a healthy mind anyways, right?..
.. well, this just turned into a me comment **clears throat ** yes, I concur with this reply.

I really resonate with the fact that screenings and really just going to the doctor's in general for one problem can raise awareness about another. I went to my normal doctor for a high heart rate and shortness of breath and while we didn't find out why my heart was being weird and we did have to go through a cardiology and neurology referral, after seeing the neurologist he diagnosed me with cluster migraines. completely unrelated to the original problem I came in for, that I do still have, but hey, now I know something that may have caused confusion in the future.

I stopped by the local medical store. Purchased a 14 gauge 3-1/2". I work it to the pressure. And wow. So much better. Over time the pressure came to the bottom layers of skin. Where I would lance the skin to drain it.
I've since cauterized them open with a hot scalpel.
I like to follow your advice Dr Mike... the stop sitting down bit, about that, I'm currently face down on the floor and my wheelchair is the other side of the kitchen.... 😂😂😂

Doctor mike: you need 7-8 hours of sleep as an adult
Also doctor mike: sleeps 2 hours
Plot twist dr.Mike is a child
My husband has fibromyalgia. If he gets 7 hours of sleep he wakes up in major pain. He usually has to have either 6 hours, or 9 hours of sleep. If he wakes up at those times he's in less pain throughout the day.
He guides others to the treasure he cant possesses
My meds make me sleep for 9hs without them i dont sleep at all. Was ones awake for 50hs

I like how Mike tells us about the dangers of siting but what are we supposed to do? That's how school works.

Yeah, that last one for sure. I've been dealing with on and off knee pain for years now. My PCP couldn't figure out what could be causing it, so he referred me to an orthopedic doctor. He diagnosed me with patellofemoral pain syndrome. He said that we'd start with physical therapy and if that there was no improvement then we'd move onto the mri. My PT, on top of that suspects that I might have a small meniscul tear as well, secondary to the patellofemoral pain syndrome and gave me exercises to help with that as well. I've only been doing it for about a week now, but it's already helped since I feel like I can put some weight on it again without the feeling of weakness or pain in it, at least for a short time, which is more than previously. I think a conservative approach is better because it can help save money by avoiding unnecessary expensive procedures such as an mri or surgery. You want to rule out the more conservative and less invasive options first since it's easier for the body to recover from exercise for example than a wound from surgery.

So that's why I always feel so anxious and on edge with practically everything I'm doing. Even if I'm dong nothing intense or scary, I constantly feel as if someone has a knife pointed at my throat. I REALLY want that feeling to end already.

If every doctor was like Doctor Mike the world would be a better place.
There's a difference between "functional" and actually healthy. Getting one night sleep isn't going to off-set weeks of poor sleep. It takes time, but once you get there it's a noticeable difference in body and brain function.
Weeks?
@@thomasa5619 yes. If you have habits that keep you from getting good sleep, then it's at least weeks. A night or two is more of a fluke than a habit.

3:51 does remind me of a post i saw on reddit a while back of someone saying that itd be nice if sleep DID work that way. like if you could sleep for 16 hours, then go a day without sleep and be absolutely fine. doesnt work that way, but it sure would be convenient if it did.
The 7-9 hours of sleep is so true. I’ve always been able to get a lot of sleep and I’ve always needed a lot of sleep (ideally, I function best at around 9-10hrs). For some reason, over the past few months, my sleep quality has dropped significantly. I have an Apple Watch and started noticing that, despite allowing myself 8-9hrs, staying away from my phone/screens for 1-2 hours, avoiding caffeine, doing all the right things, I have only been getting around 3-4hrs of sleep a night 😩. It’s caused me to develop almost daily migraines (I have always gotten migraines but the lack of sleep has really affected the frequency). My next order of business is to check for sleep apnea because my Apple Watch shows that I am having all of these little periods of microsleep throughout the night with periods of being awake that I don’t even consciously remember. I also have to wake up to pee at least 2x a night 😭. Getting old sucks lol. If I don’t drink water, though, I get too dehydrated and trigger a migraine.
But, yes, get a good night’s sleep! 🎉
Dr Mike: Don't sit 14 hours a day.
Me: well I won't be having that problem if I stay lying down 24/7
There was that guy, whom NASA had in bed for 6 months and couldn't get ständig for weeks after that.
Lxme I guess fiona fiona is German. Ständig is a German word and means constant(ly) or always. Sometimes autocorrect makes similar German words out of English words if you have two keyboards on your iPhone.

4:45 "Please don't mistake your Google search for my medical degree#
Yeah, but there are conditions where google search is the most likely way to find help. Try endometrosis, sience does not know what causes it and why suffering and observable demage do not add up. There is not a real treatment for it, most gynocologists do not realy know a whole lot about it and instead of a diagnosis you will most likely just get the advise, to take more painkillers or just stop whining, other women work whithout problem while having there period.
With googling you are more likely to find out, that endometriosis exists, find one of the few specialists and find others who suffer from it so you get ideas what might work for you to keep the suffering to a minimum.
Also a medical degree just covers a tiny portion of all that is to be knowen when it comes to medicine, the human body is way to complex as that you could know all about only your own field of expertise. So many times a dr. wanted to perscribe something to me, that interacts with another medication I take, I don't blame them for it, there are way to many substances to know all interaction, but because of that it is dangerous to just trust there judgement blindely. Always read about it and ask for specifics! If a Dr. feels threatend and reacts arrogant to beeing questioned look for another!!! Medicational interactions can kill!
Better you ask and if they are not sure they look it up, than taking something that renders something you absolutly need useless or turn a low dosage into an overdosage!
A nurse straight up told me she Googled my condition
@@stephinachurch4850 sometime that is needed, what medical profecionels lern is not most importantly knowlage about conditions, but an deaper understanding on how the body and illnesses in generell work. They can not know everything, but when they look something up, they will get more out of the information, than someone untrained. Being honest and just look it up instead of guessing can save patients so much suffering.
While I do agree that doctors should be trusted more than a WebMD result of all your symptoms, I also agree with Serena Odonata in that, if a doctor starts getting defensive, aggressive and arrogant about their position as a doctor, perhaps look for another opinion. Doctors are people too and can be imperfect. Doctor Mike says that doctors have your best interests in mind, and that may be true for a lot of them, but definitely not true for all of them. Doctors are imperfect and the mistakes that can come from arrogance are a stupid thing to die for. If your are having 9/10 pain every waking moment, and the doctor says its all in your head and that you should take some Tylenol, then gets upset when you insist something is very wrong, find another doctor.
When my son had an unusual rash on his legs and the first doctor we saw had no clue what it was. The pediatrician wasn't sure either. After I told his pediatrician that the only thing I had found online resembling it was Henoch-Schönlein Purpura (HSP), they looked it up and agreed/confirmed that was what his rash was and formally diagnosed him. There's nothing wrong with a Google search as long as you get confirmation from a medical professional that they agree with your assessment.
I was sixteen and incredibly sleep deprived, but not because of insomnia, because of homework. I had to sit in front of the computer for drivers ed for eight hours. And then I had homework which consisted of multiple little quizes, multiple tests, and then multiple work sheets which were never even useful when getting my permit. This class lasted seven days. Which is why it was so horrendous. I was waking up at five after going to sleep at two or three and functioning off of three hours of sleep and calling it fine. I was drinking coffee throughout class and washing my face with cold water to try to wake up. Day five of class I fell asleep crying because I was so sleep deprived. It took a while to get back to a normal sleep schedule as well. Come to find they wanted us to have longer class days and more days of drivers ed. It sounds dumb looking back on, but I had no idea how much sleep I needed and how much sleep I was lacking. It was a few weekends later when I got some decent sleep again but goodness it was rough. Those weren't the only symtoms. I was irritated easily and no longer wanting to eat or drink anything. It was only seven days of poor sleep schedule but it led to weeks of struggling. (anxiety attacks were bad) Anyway, this is all just to say how important sleep is and how much not getting enough sleep and nutrition can be harmful.
