    Thank you for always explaining the work you do. It's foreign to me because I've always lived in suburbs and have only seen what'd you would probably consider "tiny" farms.

    Another great video, Zach. Love the mix of the explanation of how the implement works in conjunction with the action shots. Looks like the 9560 is handling it well. Congratulations on being done with combining!

    I work for the green team. Made in Valley City, North Dakota. Similar models produced were the 2700 (Des Moines), 2720, and 2730. Updated/redesigned frame to handle the weight. In order to make room for the 2730, production of the 2720 was moved to a small factory in Iowa (Paton). Also where the "DB**'s" are made. Your options on the 2730 are 7Std, 9Std, 11Std, and 13Std. You can get rigid frame options but only on the smaller 7 and 9 standards. 11 and 13 are wing fold only.

    I've been binge-watching your videos from the first one on this week, and man, you have gotten so much better at it. Your explanations were always good, but your camera work is 1000 times better, and I love the action shots set to a perfect musical selection here.

    Great video. Down here we plant as early as possible as well. Not so we worry the corn won't dry before harvest, but so we can hit pollination before it get's really hot. We're in mid 30s for CEC, and high calcium/pH soils.

    • @MillennialFarmer
      @MillennialFarmer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TwoHappyChildrenFarm Are your CEC numbers all that high?? We get in the 30s but more numbers are mid 20s. Our calcium numbers are big also and pH averages low 8s

    Does this machine put a compaction layer just below the points? Down south here we disk only wet bottom ground and the disks create a compaction layer below the blades. We every few years run a subsoiler in a dry year to break it up which we sink a good bit down. You can physically see the ground bulging up several inches

  • @MrJimsparky
    @MrJimsparky 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    HI Zac,
    Why do you run only a 18 Foot implement? Is it due to your ground type?
    Here in Australia (Mallee Area of Victoria) we use a 36 foot Scaribar ( single Wing Fold)/Air Seeder and that is a small machine, being pulled my John Deere 9300, In clay/Soil Ground. In the Sandy type ground they are using 42+ foot

    • @MillennialFarmer
      @MillennialFarmer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrJimsparky On our corn stubble, we probably wouldn't have enough power to pull anything wider than about 22 feet, and the wider ones are a lot more expensive because they have folding wings for road travel.

    • @AASparkChaser
      @AASparkChaser 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      An 18' disk chisel is the same width as a 12 bottom plow with 18" moldboards. Both take lots of power as they are primary tillage. Obviously an air seeder would need a lot less power because of the shallow operation. In my area most air seeders are 60'.

    That looks like a good piece of equipment there. I like the 4 wheels on the ripper. We run a Case 870 ripper & it only has 2 wheels & there gets to be a lot of weight on those wheels. In soft ground they really sink in when you lift the ripper. We run both red & green tractors. Our main tillage tractor is a Case 485 & we run a John Deere 8320 on the planter & grain cart & we also have a 4555 that we use on the grain drill & the roller. Did you go drive the 9620?

    Why do you prefer using a ripper compared to using a cultivator with spikes? We just put spikes on our cultivator in the spring and go ahead of the drill and it works awesome. We’re in black soil too up in north east Saskatchewan, so I’m just curious what the advantage of using a ripper is

    • @MillennialFarmer
      @MillennialFarmer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kris Cipywnyk honestly I'm not even sure what you mean. Like a field cultivator? Are you working corn stubble with it?

    • @kris7625
      @kris7625 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MN Millennial Farmer yup a field cultivator. No we aren’t going through corn residue the heaviest residue we go through is oat stubble. If it’s because of the heavier residue it makes sense as to why you’d use a ripper

    Great videos Zach, My question is, why are you running your rear levelers in the fall? Wouldnt you want your ground mounded up so it could frost out and dry better for spring tillage? Just asking cause we found in our heavy soils in upstate NY that it seems to work better. I see you work your ground on a kidder too good man lol!! Oh are you going to the no till conference in Louisville in Jan?

    • @MillennialFarmer

      Chad win The soil definitely does dry a little nicer when it's not so smooth but we've found that it's harder to get a smooth seed bed in the spring. Each has their advantages and disadvantages I guess...

    Excellent video! You're really comin' into your own Zac with your videos. Give it time and you'll be one of the top TH-cam farming channels. I really like your style, content and personality. Is that a new camera you're using?

  • @Deere70Diesel

    We tried an RX. Don't get me wrong they're a super nice tractor but we'll stick with are red ones. Center pivot is a lot simpler and reliable than the deere. Our 435 seemed to pull harder and better than that 9620rx. Our 540 just straight walked away from it. Also, for what it's worth, we run all Krause tillage equipment. We could never get the deere to stand up to the heavy use. Your dealer situation may be different. Aside from our tillage and two red quads all the rest of our equipment is green.

    I agree 100% about the rolling basket. We pull one behind our disc and I have to stop all the time and clear it from mud and rocks will sometimes slip in and stop the basket from turning. If I was the boss I'd get rid of it lol

    Ive seen some other guys videos talking about how corn silage bales are worth pretty good money. Do you folks ever bale any of your corn or do you like to use the corn to build up your ground or to keep it loose? This was a great video and I hope you had fun on the other Big Green Tractor!!!

      Mark Mortensen we prefer to keep the corn residue on the fields so we're not mining the soil as much

    You guys do much no till? I read an article in one of the many farm magazines we get, and it was talking about how much faster water drains into the soil when it is no tilled it is very interesting. They did test to see the difference when one inch was rained on then another inch right on top of that and no till was the winner by far deep tillage was the worst. Just something I read and was curious about your thoughts

    • @banjobenson9348
      @banjobenson9348 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it is entirely based on the soil type and moisture etc

    • @AASparkChaser
      @AASparkChaser 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No till in northern Minnesota would be no plant in the spring. It would never dry out and the land would have to be summer fallowed.

    • @drewl4762
      @drewl4762 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of that stuff is half BS. In my opinion. Deep till, tickle till, no till, cover crops... It all depends on where your at and the soil type you are dealing with. We have had mixed results with all types. This year we no tilled and one field had record yield and another flooded due to the corn residue clogging up all drainage in the area and led to a lot of water standing. Had we of tilled that field and incorporated some of that residue into the soil it may not have floated off the field and caused the issues it did. Moral of the story is you never know how or what will work until you read the results on the monitor.

      AASparkChaser That's our issue here. I might have asked already but are you in the valley up there?

    • @nickrutschilling3453
      @nickrutschilling3453 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea I agree we do no till almost all of our beans and there are certain fields that when it floods the trash floats and gathers on one side of the flooded area. It can be a real pain trying to get rid of a foot of corn stalks that cover an acre or two

  • @AASparkChaser
    @AASparkChaser 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    While there is not much corn grown in my area (Thief River Falls), that is the type of machine they are using whether it be John Deere, Case IH, Summers, etc. if they have a chopping head. If they don't have a chopping head they have to run a stalk chopper over the field first or disk it before chisel plowing. A few farmers are even using those machines on wheat stubble now instead of a conventional chisel plow because it really blackens the soil in a one pass operation.
    I am surprised you can still bust the frost. Tillage in my area came to an end early last week when the temperature dropped below zero. While I did see a farmer out ditching today with his Case IH Quadtrac, he was having to bust the frost first with a D-8 CAT.
    Be sure to save some rocks for seed for next year.................
