Overcast - 2 Nights Alone in Dark Forest in Hail, Rain, Wind - Bushcraft Trip - Wild Camping

- Bushcraft trip into deep dark woods for a 3 day bushcraft trip. The weather was really at it. Wind, rain, hail and freezing temperatures at night. There is a special beauty when the sky is overcast and the forests become dark in this weather. The wet green colours become deep and they almost seem to glow. Some find it depressing or even scary. I find that the campfire really comes to life on these days, cheering everything around it, darkness and light contrasting eachother. I brought Maia along on this trip, but I don't think she enjoyed it that much. It was always windy, cold and wet so she just stayed close to the fire all the time wrapped in a wool blanket while I got on with carving, cooking and painting. We kept the fire going all nights and the extra body heat was great. The painting took 2 sessions of 4 hours to complete on the second and last day, but I condensed the process in the video to one session. We went through 6 bacon and cheese wrapped hot dogs while I was painting. I had 4 Maia had 2. I think that was her favourite part of the trip. The Birch wood burl took many hours to hollow out but most of it was done on the dark hours. Handy oil lamp, campfire, decadent hotdogs and warm soup kept us lit and warm. Thanks for watching - Ric

You got a hell of a grasp of light and colour man, and you obviously work very quickly. The transition between the painting and the video image of the campground really demonstrated this. Pretty uncanny actually.

I went through a windstorm similar to this in October this year, the wind got so violent at night it ripped the stitching from the guy lines of my tarp.. a little bit scared for sure!

I'm just so....envious. Where I live down in Florida it doesn't go below 87 degrees all night. Camping here means you strip off your clothes and no one can go in the tent because it's a sauna.

does anybody know the kind of area this very mossy forest is? I don't want to ask for a specific location, just a general forest or something. Alternatively, if you could tell me what that type of mossy forest is called. It's so beautiful I'd like to see more videos of it, though I'd never go there in real life (it's too expensive to fly to another country just to travel in my opinion- perhaps that will change someday). I love how nice these videos are. I wonder (and hope) that @Nagualero watches other youtubers' depictions of their wilderness.
@@HarryPotter-kd3bh Typically, any deciduous forest above the 45th parallel will have moss. The further north you go, the more prevalent.

Hello Nagualero, I love the back pack you use and its not being sold on Amazon right now and I was wondering if you know of any other back pack brands that are similar to yours. I've always loved watching your videos by the way and some day I hope to go on adventures just like you. I love everything about it. Your camera skills, your paintings, and your setups. I graduated high school a couple months ago and all I can think about is traveling the US and doing bushcraft and camping everywhere I go this would be my dream!
