The tiyanak episode is heartbreaking. For non-Filipinos, the tiyanak is a creature said to be created from aborted babies, or babies who died or was killed unbaptized. The tiyanak in that episode was the aborted baby of that actress, right?
The tiyanaks usually take the form of human babies and cry in the dead of night in usually secluded areas to lure prey. If a person tries finding and picking it up, it will reveal its monstrous form and eat them.

After watching this, I just realized Trese production should probably look into adding a Filipino mythology and folklore explanation in each episode. I can tell it's also frustrating to the reactors not being able to accurately grasp what's happening and just lightly referring to every creature as a demon nor why a character is treating it that way.

I do feel like it's also a product of Filipino folklore not being as well entrenched in our society as in Japan, where youkai and other of their superstitions and tales of past are much more well-known even outside Japan. I guess it's also simply because there are hundreds of thousands of anime, while Trese is just one of more Filipino anime to come hopefully.
To be completely frank, I didn't know about the tiyanak until this anime. I certainly know other aswang and similar creatures like the manananggal, mambabarang (where Sucy Manbavaran got her inspiration from, btw), diwata, kapre and so on.

I'm fascinated that we have pretty different reactions to this, as a Filipino the suddenly stopping train, the aswang market selling human organs and the tiyanak didn't startle me at all, I just thought it was pretty cool to see in a show (not that I'm saying the last two are true, but since its common in our folklore it's pretty much already ingrained in your head so its not too shocking) Still its weirdly fun to see others get surprised by it LMAO

I’m so used hearing and seeing animation in English, Japanese, or French, that I’m not used this. I’ve always found it weird to hear Tagalog coming from an animated character’s mouth. But, seeing these small clips, I might give it a try. I was not expecting this sort of beautiful animation. The Tagalog animation that I grew up with was Tagalog-dubbed anime. I watched Naruto episodes in Tagalog (I can’t remember it much because I was six though).

As a Filipino, I say this would be one of the greatest masterpiece Filipinos has ever made and I can see it on how these Non-Filipinos react to the series. Honestly, I hate horror but when it comes to this series, it really makes me want to watch it again even if it scares me a little. And compliments to the casts and crew and Especially the Filipino Voice of Alexandra, Liza Soberano. I'm a huge fan of hers since 2015 and one of the things that I really like about her is that any character suits her well even this character that is very new to her😍😘🥰

@cdawg the monster baby is called a tiyanak. Its the corrupted spirit of aborted/abandoned children. In most filipino folklore, the dead baby becomes a tiyanak in order to look for its mother, longing for acceptance and love.
This is why the tiyanak proceeded to cry when the lady stabbed it to death. It finally came so close to feeling a mother's touch and it just gets betrayed, told everything it didn't want to hear, and killed on the spot.
Amazing how the tone shifted in just mere moments. You gotta ask who the real monster is.

To those who haven't watch(I haven't either) or know the plot. Here's the plot (assumingly) the woman probably lost her child and became despaired when she saw a baby left in the road, little did she know that child is a tiyanak but the brief moment of having it as a child give her bliss

Bitin, I need the other stories the author/creator wrote about Alex and her elder brothers.. But being left alone without a family member around in the plot is a solid angst and ache in my heart it's brutal but it shapes Alex decisions and destiny for herself. It's like seeing through another surprise dimension, other than what I know about the comics.. it's refreshing..

I'm not saying Trese isn't cool. I enjoyed it. But, these "anitubers" will like anything Netflix tells them to like. All these reactions are fake, even when they do like it, they're over-playing it. They're just part of the media for Netflix now. They don't have independent thoughts.

@@himasekiwari155 I feel you sir. I could've worded that better. I'll put it to you this way. It's called controlled opposition. Yes, they've rightfully criticized certain things.
Here's what you need to understand; even tho they all have their own podcasts and channels, they now work for Netflix too. Netflix hires voice actors, produces the animation, etc. At the end of the day it IS a conflict of interest. So, they'll criticize, but they'll never cross the line.
