    Maybe it’s been said but pulling a vacuum not only pulls refrigerant out but also outgasses any moisture because it boils off in a vacuum. We would bake out hivac manifolds to increase the outgassing too. Thanks for this

    Good video. I have HF vacuum pump, and this pump doesn't have an oil backflow check valve (even $200 Robinair doesn't). When you shut it down oil gets sucked into anything in vacuum, in this case it may be your expensive micron gauge. I had to install a ball valve to prevent that, after my hoses got full of oil a couple of times I learned my lesson - close the valve, then shut down pump. The worst thing possible is to get mineral oil into a lineset... CPS makes an antisyphon valve (google CPS VPASU) I'm thinking to install as well. Believe these are rebranded FJC pumps so quality is good.

    I've had a 3CFM 2-stage HF vacuum pump for 7 years and it works very well. Still pulls a deep vacuum. True that you need to change the oil to achieve a deep vacuum. It puts my Yellow Jacket 7 CFM 2-stage pump to shame. The micron gauge is needed to ensure that you've reached at least 500 microns or less.

      I don't have a micron gauge, what would you recommend using this vacuum, how long would youI don't have a micron gauge, what would you recommend using this vacuum, how long would you put 84 ton split system under vacuum for like 45 minutes, and maybe an hour? Thanks in advance

    If you see an HVAC Tech using digital manifold gauges, there is built-in micron gauge on those digital gauges so that might be a reason why you don't see the text using a micron gauge because it might be built into their main gauge manifold. But they're just using a regular analog needle type gauge manifold then yes you need a micron gauge

    I have the same pump I've been using it for the last 5 years I've done a lot of units with it including Goodman 5 t units which have a huge line set I've had no problems sucking them down to a 130 microns and doesn't take that long to do it .I will say I am impressed with the pump

    • @ktoutdoor
      @ktoutdoor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm new at this do you feel 130 micron is enough? I read manufactures want 500 to 1000 microns on a new install? at least on a 2 ton I did my self watch it here. th-cam.com/video/JPvO9AjyeR4/w-d-xo.html

    • @danielgrant407
      @danielgrant407 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      500 is a minimum the deeper you can do a vacuum the better it is Because it boils off all the impurities inside the system And it will allow you to get a better charge and longer a life of the unit

    • @jamesbroomfield7799
      @jamesbroomfield7799 หลายเดือนก่อน

      About how long did it take you to get that 5 ton unit down to 130 microns?

  • @davidg3944
    @davidg3944 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Thanks, this was a useful video, and the comments too. Some of the negative reviews for your micron gauge on Amazon make it clear you may get a lemon (and/or used) unit, but I can see the value if you get a good one.

    Great video I have a question when breaking in a new vacuum pump do you leave the caps on the air valves ?

    • @ktoutdoor
      @ktoutdoor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am not for certain but yes I do believe you want to keep the caps on
      cause you never want to introduce moisture into the oil unnecessarily.

    Great video Kevin. Was any of the debris metallic? Bad enough there was moister in the reservoir. Yu know how hydraulic system don't like moister in the lines.
    Just recently pulled vacuum on a couple 1k+ gallon isotainer tanks for validation purposes with a slightly larger vacuum pump (30CFM), and our micron gauge failed on us. Had to fall back on analog in. Hg.
    Kevin, finally have a chance to binge watch you latest video. I am way behind. Hv you ever considered putting your videos on a DVD and selling them? Your videos have priceless reference information for the RV world. I used to be able download these with Download Helper but the latest MAC OS will not allow Download Helper to be loaded on MAC Books anymore. I don't know how long videos are kept on TH-cam, but I'd sure hate to loose access to them.

      That is just the vent cap it remains closed while running i just removed it so as I added oil the air had somewhere to go.

    My pump lets off a lot of oil vapor. I have an exhaust filter on it now, but noticed today when I was using the pump the oil was brown and murky. Still pulls ok. Is an oil change all it needs or should I go trade it in?

    • @ktoutdoor

      The oil will get contaminated very quickly after a few jobs. Its most likely still good it just need fresh oil The oil I use TSI Supercool Vacuum Pump Oil, Synthetic, 32 Oz, Clear (V32)

    • @ktoutdoor

      This little pump has served me well.. to pull a good vacuum "250 microns" on a 2 ton system may take 1.5 hours but I'm in no hurry. I have not used a single stage

      @FisherCatProductions ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jrm163 400-500 mics will degass an AC system. Bigger, multi-stages pumps just get there quicker. The real problem is that most guys won't invest $150-200 in a digital gauge, so they have no clue when they have pulled a proper vacuum. In that case, just buy a cheap junk pump 'cause you don't know what it's doing anyways.

      @@ktoutdoor Yes I have always bought local too but they did not have a particular item that I wanted so I ordered it online. Well I never did get my order and finally they send me a thing like 2 weeks later that said it was on back order,Then I tried to get in touch with someone about just canceling the order. Never could get a hold of anybody. I sent letters to different places. No one responded back then after three weeks. Someone sent me a email saying that we're going to cancel my order. Well I have not received my payment yet. I mean this has been months now. This is ridiculous. Just trying to help everybody out Maybe save them to trouble that I had. They really need to work on their customer service. They also need to be working under management staff at their warehouses so they can see if they have inventory in stock or not. Before they go advertising and saying they do. You know most places will tell you that it's not in stock or they won't even let the order go through because it's not in stock. They're not very well managed. Thank you for your comment. Hope you have a nice day
