Exactly what I did to my 300l. Very pleased with the 550 ECU and the Yoshi. Clearly more pep, just runs like a different bike. Highly recommend if you just want more power all the way thru the power band.
I see you live in Sarasota . I live near you right off Richardson rd. I just bought a 300L a few weeks ago. If you want someone to ride with at times, let me know. Take care,Jeff
Thank you for this In depth review. I've had the same concerns about the power and the brakes. I was on the fence but it really does seem to be just good enough to ride safe and have enough power and get fantastic gas mileage. I may pull the trigger tomorrow!
Yeah I'm about to buy one also and even though I like power, I really want everyday economy and to be able to carry some gear on shopping trips instead of filling up my truck with now expensive diesel, power will have to come from a second toy dedicated to that alone.
They are great bikes, especially with current fuel prices. I have 1,700 miles on mine since I got it last month on the 20th. Will be going with fake FMF system from Thailand and Thai ECU. $360 for both isn't a bad deal. Then suspension and armor and I'll have my little Unicorn.
Greetings, As always another excellent detailed video 🇺🇸🍾🎉🇺🇸 How is the heat from the engine and any vibrations? Thank you so much for assisting me, I planning to buy one soon. Keep producing more videos.
thank you - vibrations are not bad at all, only become an issue when keeping RPM very high and more than 65-70MPH. Engine heat is not an issue either in my opinion..
Don’t know what your speed was when that truck almost pulled out in front of you, but 9:23 you were doing almost 50mph in a 25 zone. Could that have something to do with it?
I was just running mine down the road 20 minutes ago. Just turned 600 miles, One oil change in. Still have the 5 K Rattle...but i ignore it. Seems less as the miles go by.
Had a 250L with FMF Megabomb header and a Q4 Muffler. The Q4 is supposed to be the less loud version, it was loud as hell. We use Cardo comms so loud exhaust is not desirable. I recently got a 300L, even in stock form it has more torque than my modded 250L. I ordered the 550 ECU but I'm leaving the exhaust stock.
FMF no longer makes pipes for road bikes unfortunately so your only options are Akrapovic, Arrow, Yoshi, or knockoff FMFs from Thailand like Moto X or Ebay pipes.
Nice to hear a perspective from a primarily street rider. I'm considering going to one of these from my cb500x, but we will see. I wish they would make a 350-500cc version of this bike, it just needs a bit more power.
is it too loud for cruising around? trying to decide if its worth the extra $200 compared to the black widow. have you fitted the stock exhaust heat shields?
It's a touch loud but not 'TOO loud' to cruise around with. And no I have not fitted any shield.. The exhaust runs beneath the lower fairing on the Rally.. not a lot of pipe exposed for leg to hit. I went with the Yoshimura as they are the Honda factory team and seem to know well what they are doing with the CRFs.. I've been very happy with the results.
Nice video, I was wondering when you said "Florida", then once I saw the purple cow I knew... hahaha. Yeah, watch the fucking assholes out there. I got taken out last Apr on 17th and Lockwood, not good.
I ride in Florida as well (resident/commute, not just for 6 months like these snowbirds) and am wondering, what gear do you use for rainy days? I'm looking to get maybe a new jacket.
Doesn't seem to be worth all of that to me? May as well swap the engine.. Or you're looking at tuning the bike, modifying the airbox and intake to go along with it, trying to make it something it isn't.. I don't know..
This is not the one for quiet, unfortunately.. I wish it was a bit quieter. I chose this one because Yoshimura has been the official Honda Factory team in racing for a while and knew it would be quality and tuned properly.. It did not disappoint in that regard. There are things people do to modify the sound / but I'm not sure what your best option is...
I did not - I thought about it but I do not want to put holes in my airbox cover... maybe I will modify the air filter (backfire screen) and snorkel at some point, not sure.
Did you ever feel the need that you had to add a heat shield on the muffler end or along the motor portion? I got this exhaust coming but I’m not sure if I should sauce out of heat shield or not!
Thanks for the video. I'm riding a cb500x presently. But being an old dirt biker I want to get a dual sport instead. It looks almost as quick as the CB. I too was worried it might be a bit slow.
I only put 100 miles on before swapping the exhaust and ECU so I cannot comment too much on that.. but I will say the MPG drop very much when you get high in the RPMs. When you are cruising below 70 or 60mph the MPG shoots up quite a bit.. I can get 70+ on slower roads. 85MPH+ (indicated) I will only get around 40-50MPG really..
Having previously had a 250 Rally here in the UK i am considering getting a 300 to replace my Suzuki GSX1250FA. What 550 ECU did you use and did you have to get it flashed to work on the 300 or was it a direct swap
I don't know if ECU is same in Europe.. I am in USA. 91 Octane flashed ECU from 550 Performance.. A straight swap out, easy really. Kept my stock ECU just in case.
On my channel I have the same bike 2017 that's the model with full ohlins front and back suspension got mine with EJK electric jet kit stage 1 intake now exhaust is going on full yoshimura and even without thr exhaust I pull on my friends 300 lol he bugs out all the time but of course got add ons they just awsome bikes I got the camel tank as well man 75 on highway comfortable one trip I did 100 miles 50 going and 50 coming she did it with ease

I like the quiet stock muffler! My ECU 550 worked great i thought! Real smooth and quick!
Yeah, I would've preferred a bit quieter exhaust note especially for the trail riding side of things myself...

I have a lot of hours with this Honda, because Dutch vlogger Itchy Boots rides it this season.
and?
Great video. Turn on that HIGH-BEAM! Ride safe. 👍

How know? 🤔
unicorns are gay
I want one of these so bad

Well I actually sold the 300 and have an 800DE VStrom now.@@rosarioroberto5823

Yeah it is a bit loud.. but I think it is worth the trade off.. Maybe I can get a lower noise insert eventually...

@@motochavannigans708 He said he's leaving it stock. Learn to read.
PS will use stabilization next time =)
Lol the first thing I thought was how good the sounds was.
It is kind of a difficult watch with the low camera angle.
Do you think a view from the helmet is better? I don't have a chin mount for gopro on the new helmet..
Yes, for sure.
What type insert is it a spart arrestor or baffle? Is it required ?
I do not know what is required.. The exhaust comes with an insert inside, I do not think it is a spark arrestor.

agreed... it will have to do for now... Hoping yamaha or KTm come with a 400/450 class direct competitor to the 300.
The crf450l motor would make a perfect crf450 rally. I feel like these need just a little more power.
You will be sad if you get one. Get a drz400 instead.

Mine has no windshield is that an upgrade I should consider? Does that small windshield help much? Great video thanks
This is the windscreen that comes with the Rally version.. I am not sure about modifying yours and how effective it is.. try asking some others.

Go with Klim. Top shelf mate.
I agree with paul here, klim makes some nice stuff. I will probably be acquiring a klim enduro/adventure jacket eventually..
Any chance you found the low volume insert? I couldn't find it
I did not... can you find that for us plz
@@TylerMcCool I couldn’t find it. Thought you may have since you mentioned it in your video
Jump off the Tuono and everything feels flat, the 500 and Africa twin did, so I can only imagine with this
... Yes, as expected. They are totally different bikes.
.
And what more to expect from changing the Cams ?

I did not, but the rally has a piece of bodywork up there that the CRF300L doesn't
Thanks for the video. I'm riding a cb500x presently. But being an old dirt biker I want to get a dual sport instead. It looks almost as quick as the CB. I too was worried it might be a bit slow.
It is an adjustment coming from 600-1000cc sportbikes thats for sure.. but it has enough to get moving, the light weight helps.
I have a CB500F, it's nowhere near as fast.
Did you do the airbox?
No
On average how has your gas mileage been affected? Was it a big drop after ecu/exhaust or a minimal defference?
I only put 100 miles on before swapping the exhaust and ECU so I cannot comment too much on that.. but I will say the MPG drop very much when you get high in the RPMs. When you are cruising below 70 or 60mph the MPG shoots up quite a bit.. I don't know if ECU is same in Europe.. I am in USA. 91 Octane flashed ECU from 550 Performance.. A straight swap out, easy really. Kept my stock ECU just in case.
What’s the top speed of the bike now
depends on winds and temps.. 85mph approximately, sometimes 90 (indicated. need to gps verify) gearing is stock. It won't pull redline in 6th..
As soon as you ride a bike on the road without a jacket/armor/protection etc. your opinion of anything motorcycle related is of no consequence!
Motorcycles aren't meant for women, Safety-Sally.
What was the cost?
For the bike or exhaust? I paid list price for both..
What fuel octane are you running with your ECU flashed? I know 550 has a tune option for 87 & 91.
Running the 91 as that is the only option they had when I ordered my ECU... which shouldn't be a problem here in the US..
Is your exhaust slip on or full exhaust?
Full system
