What Mr. Monroe actually said (I can still see and hear the mental video as clear as yesterday, after 51 years) was "I'd rather hear Joe Stuart play anything besides a banjo". He was a man of few words, but when he did speak, he got right to the point. One of these days I'll relate this story and some other Monroe encounters on a video.
