There is a photo that you can find by searching, "A Japanese boy standing at attention after having brought his dead younger brother to a cremation pyre, 1945" iirc this photo had a lot of influence on the anime. Trigger Warning. The photo is heartbreakingly sad.
This story is "partially" true The author's younger sister died at the age of 16 months due to debility caused by malnutrition. The author states that he wrote the original story out of regret and guilt for not taking better care of his sister. Also, this story was published as a book with another story (American Hijiki) at the time of publication The other story takes place 22 years after the end of the war, in a parallel universe where everyone survives except the father (although the names of the characters are different).

この映画を見てくれて嬉しいです😊 "Grave of the Fireflies" is not merely a children's animation but a piece of literature that depicts love and death as beautiful themes within the context of Japan's traditional stories of romantic suicide. The theme of romantic suicide holds a special meaning in Japanese culture, expressing the intersection of love and despair in poignant moments. Conversely, from a Western Christian perspective, romantic suicide is viewed as sinful and accompanied by ethical dilemmas. By considering these cultural backgrounds, a deeper understanding of the beauty of human suffering and love depicted in "Grave of the Fireflies" can be achieved.😊
I watch this movie around 10 years ago but I don't have the courage to watch this movie with you guys so I skipped to last scene of her death. I can't bare the trauma again.
The fact that I watched this over 10 times and I still cry at the very end every single time explains how good the movie is.
The end of the movie is the beginning, when I came back to the beginning I cried a lot 😭😭
Aww yeah deffo got us in the feels for sure :(
the fact that this movie is based on a true story
Not in the way most would think, but it definitely is a depiction of life for many children in this kind of situation.
yeah this movie is really emotional 10/10

You guys should watch Your Name, alot of people who liked Your Lie In April ends up loving Your Name and vice versa.
If this movie can make you cry, you should be able to cry about what's happening right now.
