So, I've been curious about this for quite some time, and feel this is the right time to write about this: I had a theory regarding the reactions, rationale, and disposition of those in this comment section when a video/set featuring Asuka is posted. With this "experiment" going on for about a year now, I have discovered that there is a preconceived opinion encircling Gobou's Asuka. Now, no disrespect to other Asuka users - they are skilled within their own regions and work hard with the character, but this must be said; I noticed there was a video about a day ago posted with the very same characters - but with different players, both from NA, and I believe the Sol player was the dominator in those matches - and in the comments section for that particular video, there were very few, if any, negative comments regarding Asuka/or the player. That leads me to my next statement, when people watch Gobou perform with Asuka on a level beyond any other Asuka user - the complaints come flowing in, much like water releases in a dam. If some of you believe that Gobou playing "Solitaire" with Asuka is cheating, or unfair, then I regret to inform you that if it were easy to operate Asuka at Gobou's level - all the other Asuka players from all regions would do the exact same thing he does without a second thought. With this information, I have finally found the answer I've pondering for so long - people won't necessarily say much when they see Asuka/players underperforming or achieving a limited amount of success - however, when they witness a player utilizing and pushing this character to its limits, beyond anything executed by any other Asuka player to this day - there is nothing but discord...... Finally, with this information collected from a fairly large sample size, I find it interesting that the general consensus of those who watch GGST videos is, *"Asuka is tolerable as long as the player is not achieving much - or is not a threat"* - but when the converse is true, then there is most definitely a problem - thank you for involuntary becoming apart of my analysis, and proving my hypothesis... My apologies about the lengthy report...
the thing gobou has going for him is that he’s very fast, which is why his playstyle works. High level Asuka players all have their own specialty, Gobou has speed, Zando has neutral, Komekome has near optimal efficiency this is not even the pinnacle of what Asuka could be. Imagine what the playerbase would say if there was a player who had 100% mastered this character in all aspects…
to be fair i think anyone would be upset if a dlc character halted them from experiencing the game they already paid 60 dollars for They get insulted for fighting asuka and losing, they get insulted for choosing not to fight asukas, and they get insulted if they play asuka and do the same touhou shit; there really just is no winning unless you accept that strive is just insane unbalanced bullshit and getting real sweaty with any character will turn most matchups into sisyphean struggles for the opponent ppl should just play the game the way they want and feel whatever they want regarding strives many bullshit nuances
Gobou has speed, accuracy, and strategy - he is also fairly good on defense. Zando has great situational awareness and makes very quick decisions in tense situations. Komekome has the best neutral and defense of any other Asuka player by far - and because of this, he performs much better against match-ups where Gobou and other Asuka players struggle, such as against Axl and I-No - and this is with a much weaker version (Case 2) of Asuka than is being used by Gobou and Zando - but for that very reason, a strong neutral and defensive game is a must. Edit: I also forgot to mention that Komekome is the only Asuka player I've seen that switches between an extreme defensive state to an incredibly offensive state; it's almost as if he's gathering data on the opponent's playstyle and tendencies before assessing how to defeat them. He would win more if he used Case 3, but I'm glad he hasn't made the switch, and is making Case 2 work - he even won 2-0 against Gobou's Asuka in a mirror match during a 3 on 3 team tournament.

I always just assume it's a lack of skill on the commentor's part and they project their losses and negative experiences onto the character, never once did I consider the pro player the target instead

@cnash5647 Now that may sound like a good idea at first, but I feel that if they kept Slayer's 6P (where he lunges forward) the same as in previous games in GGST, it would suffer from the same issues as Asuka's - where you cross yourself up trying to use it like a normal 6P, and put yourself at a disadvantage - while putting your opponent at an advantage. But Slayer, and its character model is actually tall, unlike Asuka, so perhaps it wouldn't be so bad... I apologize if this came off as overly critical, I was just pointing out a factor that I feel was partially the reason why ASW changed Slayer's 6P in GGST...
People will see this and go: "This guy/ Asuka ruins the game 😭😭😭" Putting the fact that none of you have any idea of how Asuka works at all aside, my brother in christ, this is the BEST Asuka player, none of you crybabies stuck in floor 10 or lower will ever encounter him in tower, specially because he is japanese, he will not even play in the same tower server than you in the first place.
The really insane thing to me about asuka (of many….) is that his health drain is like the main manga recharge anyone uses And in doing so by the 0:30 mark Asuka has already drained half his life while barely doing anything to Sol. Sol could basically sit back and just let Asuka end himself… because that’s basically what he’s doing. It’s not even doing good chip damage
Against a bad asuka sure, but good asuka players know when to go in for the mix, also every cube hit and regular hit that gobou gets is more meter for him while sol gets nothing from blocking
Besides using health for mana to extend pressure is always better than being suboptimal and leaving gaps by using anything slower, cuz 0 guts rating means you will just die if you lose all your mana

Testament has unfortunately been bottom tier since their release - even after receiving some buffs, they are still seen as the weakest character in the game...
You're mistaken, Gobou said that Asuka is still fun to play; but he mentioned it's hard to stay motivated against bad match-ups - like Sol, for example.

Well yeah it's boring if you have 0 idea what's going on. If it's just pretty cubes to you, of course it'll get stale after a while. But for an actual Asuka player who knows what's going on, it is _exhilarating_ watching all of these crazy spell combinations, how Gobou carefully manages his resources and frame advantage simultaneously with an insane APM to keep his pressure going continuously, watching where Gobou has to create a moment of risky fake pressure to grab a large amount of resources and seeing if the opponent falls for it, spotting where and when Gobou has punishable openings and seeing if you can predict when they'll happen based only on the composition of his hand, etc. There is a TON of thinking going on at an incredibly dense level. It's absolutely fascinating if you can actually follow along with it.

Now I understand that we are all entitled to our own opinions, but if you are unhappy with the game, its characters, or the system mechanics, then you have the option of playing something else - perhaps even make your own game. Moreover, I said this before, and I will say it again, complaining is the biggest time-waster of all - as without a solution, it solves absolutely nothing. With that being said, you're clearly upset about how Asuka is played when the character is piloted by the best player in the world on said character - so, what changes do you think are necessary to make Asuka "more fair"? Gorilla strive is not a competitive game. That is, of course, you can compete using gorillas from the meta, but technical and risk characters like Millia are not needed here. Nothing has changed for 3 years now. The meta of the game is braindead cheap garbage with broken damage, or a broken autopilot that just skips neutral and cuts you off in the corner. these are two extremes in this game. and Millia is stuck somewhere in the middle, powerless against them. Garbage game. the worst thing they could have done to the series. narrow, variable-free tunnel and gutted gameplay. don't mind me. I'm a fake, just like your game. Strive is fake guilty gear. I just can’t believe that after a masterly xx or even xrd, they released this shame. It’s not surprising that this dirty game has gathered the worst and most prejudiced community around it.
