    Great review! I'm 61 and am approaching 2000 miles for my 6 month anniversary... I NEVER get tired of riding this thing! I play golf on it (6 miles/3-4 times per week), I watch for low tides so I can ride the beach on it (last 3 days in a row), I do my volunteer trail maintenance on it, and I just ride it around the neighborhood nearly every day (6-12 miles loops). Almost all done injury free!

    Hey we got into the onewheel XR the same year! One thing I wish they would add is a function to limit the power output so that even at full “throttle” u will never have to worry about getting pushbacks/nosedives. Constant pushbacks coming up during my cruise forces me to slow down, gather myself, and get back into the flow of the ride. An artificial limit will ensure I can fully focus/enjoy my ride and not having to worry about if I’m going too fast and am approaching the limit of the motor

    • @OutdoorsIQ
      @OutdoorsIQ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What an excellent idea, I would love an “its-slow-but-impossible-to-nose-dive” function in the app. Even if they limited the top speed to 50%.

    • @mitchpowell608
      @mitchpowell608 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That would be amazing....12-15mph is plenty of speed for me...if I could put a limiter on it and not worry about getting going to fast and nose diving I woimd be a happy dude...at 250lb it's really easy for me to overwhelm the board.

    This is crazy. Just stumbled across your video after owning an XR for a week. I live in Florida now but moved from NYC and worked for the Statue of Liberty.
    When you pass that Statue Cruises boat, that was me on the 2nd deck tying the line. I know for a fact because I saw you riding past and always wanted a OneWheel but couldnt justify getting it in NY at the time. I clearly remember seeing you ride by and thinking to myself how cool that was.
    Thats a full circle moment for me seeing this video 3 years later.

    Great vid Jimmy! I’ve had my XR since last summer 2018. Was going to get a Pint, thank goodness I did not. I’m old, turning 50 here. This just take me back to the days of skateboarding with homemade parts and feeling like that kid again. Just the joy of feeling free is probably the most important. I have a boosted but the turn radius on it compared to the OW+XR is night and day, not to mention the smoothness of any terrain you’re on. Boosted was just to stiff and having a remote to rely on was different. This is mind and device connection, you think and it goes where you want. This is the best electric vehicle ever and without the range issue you get with a Pint. It is one of the best investments I’ve made. Thanks again!

Reminds of the time I threw up on my cross country coach after running in the sectionals even though I was sick. I get the "home-made" comment from time to time but not very much anymore. There are a lot of Onewheels running around the San Francisco Bay Area. I see them frequently while commuting on my scooter in San Francisco. • @TheFloatLife
    @TheFloatLife 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Another banger video Jimmy!!! However, we gotta talk about these calls for heavier pushback. From what I’ve seen, pushback makes nosedives way more dangerous. When pushback happens and the nose comes up, people instinctively want to get the board to level out so they put more and more weight on their nose. By the time the nose finally gives out, a persons entire weight is on their lead foot making it so you hit the ground a lot faster. If the board was more leveled out when the nose gave out you would be more centered over the wheel, and it would give you a much better chance of saving it or at the very least an easier run out.

    • @freshlycharged
      @freshlycharged  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good points. In the EUC world, once you past set thresholds, the pedals do something called tilt back, the equivalent to push back. I find it very effective. Of course, it's harder to overcome the tilt back compared to the OW given the physics of your stance on an EUC and the bigger reserve power in most EUCs... depending in where you set it on the app. Got any suggestions on how to help prevent nosedives?

    • @TheFloatLife
      @TheFloatLife 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@freshlycharged Yeah man, seems like that would be really helpful on an EUC for some tactile feedback. I'm starting to come around on an audible warning as long as it can be disabled for seasoned riders. I think the best solution would be something like a rider profile where you have to "unlock" more advanced shapings. For example, you have to ride 20 miles before you can get out of sequoia, 100 miles before you can access mission, etc.

As for me, I love my EUC but seeing vids like this reminds me that OW has a lot going for it. Personally if i were to buy one i'd lean more towards the Pint than the XR because the battery seems more flight friendly.

    Great video. I agree about the safety thing. I'm surprised that the manufacturer didn't incorporate small wheels on the front as a standard, instead of relying on some aftermarket company to make their product safer. I don't care how macho people think it is to kiss the pavement or break your collarbone . If you manufacture a device that is motorized and a sudden motor control system failure will throw the operator to the ground, that is a problem that should make their engineers lose sleep. An audible alert would be a good start. My son just did a nosedive on the pavement, thank goodness he only received a few scrapes. Onewheels are such a great invention and idea. The fact that people wipe out, but still want to get right back on says alot about how great the experience is. I ordered a set of fangs and made sure my son backs off when pushback happens (I explained it over and over before it he nosedived). The bad thing is that a sudden control failure (electronic/electrical failure) would not give you any feedback and you would nosedive anyway, so in my mind small wheels in the front are a no brainer.

  • @CHEFPKR
    @CHEFPKR 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sounds odd, but what about adding mini roller wheels to the front of it so that if it nosedives the wheels catch?

    I’ve noticed that some of these have flat boards for the feet, and some have boards that slant up or get wider at the outside. The ones that get thicker toward the outside appear to be made of plywood. Looks like yours is one of those. Perhaps that helps onlookers to suspect that you built it yourself, because... who would spend $1800 on some something made of plywood!!? I mean... the rest of the design looks a little home made too, but the plywood edges really bring it home.

    I'd like more Pinty features on the XR, and I wouldn't mind other safety features.
    I'm telling you though, if you put a FF Whisper on your XR and get it to around 24-26psi, you'll add another 5 miles or so to your range, increase your safety headroom a decent amount, and notice a much quicker response from the motor.
    It really does change the nature of the whole board.

    The only disagreement, and i know i'm weird, is, i love the Did you make it? question. I guess that's because i make stuff. I actually work hard at making my stuff look scruffy and rough. I once had a salesperson shed a tear because i took a brand new kevlar Eddie Larson Bell helmet out back of the bike shop, scuff it up with sand paper, and paint it flat black. Still have that helmet, never locked it. Now, i'm not letting my XR out of my site, but i think you get the idea. Love your videos. Thanks as always.

    Would you rather have had your EUC with you? I am getting better at my EUC. Rode 20 miles last night around Miami Beach. But if my OW pint had the range, I would have rather been on it.

      Range and convenience is key for me. I didn't have access to an EUC on this trip. XR>Pint because of the range.

    Having owned my first onewheel for one month today I can say my honeymoon is NOWHERE close to over. Having had to practice on snow ice and pebbles because of winter has forced me to learn to relax my ancles and knees a lot and I have had 0 nosedives so far and 100km done. Onewheel makes walking feel so dial-up. No thanks when our feet deserve fiber! ;-)

    How hard would it be for a old guy to learn to ride. I ride single track on my KTM excf 500 but am looking for something light as I am recovering from back surgery and find my bike to heavy at this stage in recovery. Do any old guys have experience on them ?

    Great safety ideas and awareness. As a pain management/sports physician I shouldn't ride this, but I am waiting for my pint and already ordered the Carbon Smith front wheels, wrist pads, helmet and looking for subtle elbow pads. I will receive the safety gear before I even get my board. I am happy I started with the pint and the accessories first or the sticker price would have been shocking. I have a 10 and 8 year old that would love a hand-me-down when I upgrade to the XR with "audible " sounds for push back. ;) What's the best lock for the pint, I saw a sleek silver one on one of your posts. Name?
