I know this is old but I tried this and it emptied everything from my workshop but did not pull water or food from any other settlements. I tried it in vault 88 if that makes any difference
You know it's dated, but still the best layout I've seen for a vanilla Contraption sorting factory. I want to get all the trophies before turning to mods.
Thanks. That was my thoughts on mods too, and I'm still juggling between a modded save and unmodded. Really wish someone had made a great set for the Creation Club, which wouldn't stop trophies. -M
my suggestion for the stuff dumped on the floor would be to have it dumped outside onto the ground.. that way you don't scrap your floor on accident.. and may I add.. OMFG that thing is EPIC lmao.. I want one...
Fantastic build and video. No faffing about just explaining your system and showing it in action. I will definitely be building a version in my world and will hopefully post it so you can see. Again, great work. Cheers
Thanks, glad you liked it. Used the vacuum hopper on all the other factory builds too, works nicely. Plus I have some new videos coming soon, so a few more builds on the way. :)
Omg! You're voice is so soothing. Love it! Really enjoyed the video. Oan, there actually is a machine that will break your junk into component pieces which is extremely helpful. It's a mod called Manufactoring extended. You may find yourself really enjoying the modifications they've done to some of the machines & you'll really like the ones they've created like the recycle machine.
Glad you like the video. But that MIC was really terrible, newer vids have much better sound. Thanks for the info on that mod, others have mentioned that too. I must check it out.
I'd take that a step further with that sorting facility and have a facility that makes weapons, ammo, armor and power armor from the broken down junk. the rest would go back into the workshop say for building more stuff from the Sim settlements 2 mod. the weapons, ammo, armor and power armor would be stored in a armory that the soldiers would access, the General included. since the General would have his own house in Sanctuary hills (so would the Sole Survivor among other companions). Then just use the now working postal service to ship any excess weapons, ammo, armor and power armor to other settlements to sort into their armories and what not. yes that includes knives since I remember soldiers in the military tend to use knives when they run out of ammo in their guns.
I decided to start everything on the second level, that way, the junk items to be scrapped simply went from the sorter to a downward conveyer and dropped through a hole to the floor below. More room and allows a little atom cats style garage downstairs with a scrappng area. I have junked more floor than I care to count, so that's no different :D
Wish I had thought of that before building a 15 * 15 over top of the sons of b******it sounds like they're having a tap dance competition down there every time I walk past
To everyone saying “What’s the point”, (including the creator, who says it’s only for fun and to organize components to take to other settlements), there is an actual legit reason to pull out all the junk from the workshop. Food and water too, as it turns out, and for the same reason. Settlers that scavenge and farm will generate new stuff for you, and deposit it in the workshop. Same for water purifiers. But there’s a threshold for how much of each is in storage, after which, no more stuff is generated. They deposit their stuff daily. They can deposit their entire daily haul, even if if it’s over the threshold, but no more will be added the next day. You literally need to empty the workshop regularly if you want more free resources to be generated. In early game, this generated stuff comes in handy, but particularly so for junk, because settlers will regularly deposit rare items. Like Military Ammo Bags. Or Antifreeze Bottles. Stuff that can take a long time to find, they’re continually finding for you. Personally, I would streamline this creator’s Factory. All of the component conveyor storage could be consolidated into one. For instance. My current method involves just a single hopper. I load all my junk into it. After a couple quests, i turn it on, over a nice empty, uncluttered and unscrappable surface, and it drops everything in a pile. Just start mashing scrap buttons, and it’s over fast. Important next step is to then remove the components from the workshop, and store away separately. So that new stuff is generated. It’s kind of a pain. Not going to lie. I scrap everything manually. And then every time i want to build/craft/cook, i have to take out, then put back, the parts. I’m not sure how with the effort is. Maybe only early game will the extra rare junk really help. The extra purified water, too. I’m able to get Ballistic Fiber much earlier than normal, and have asbestos lined or padded armor at low level.
Why didn't I think to build around the workshop building at Starlight Drive-in? Gotta copy that, thanks. And thank you for the giant sorting plant idea.
for that one sorter that ends on the floor... have you thought of perhaps pushing a large table into the floor, or perhaps one of the wooden supports? being a bit lower than the conveyor itself would allow things to fall to the table surface, and being lower, would make aiming at them to break them down easier. Also, you would only have that one table to be aware of, instead of losing the whole room. yes, this does mean it's not snapped into anything and thus 'free floating' there at the end of the production line. But, on the other hand, it would mean if you messed up and did break it down my mistake, you'd only have that one item to fix. Just a thought. Use or not, as you wish.
What is the advantage to this over... 1) grabbing all your junk, unneeded weapons and apparel, etc into your inventory... 2) "dropping" all the above.. 3) going into build mode and scrapping all of it? The above sorts everything into components, without the machinery, places the components into the workbench where it can be shared removed, and also lowers your settlement size limit meter.
Decided to pick Fallout 4 back up after putting it down a few times. After mods and everything, I always found it overwhelming; so I'm excited to know that factories are viable. I've been super excited to start making one. But awesome build, I hope I make one that looks just as official. Liked and subbed.
House Goblin Thanks. :) Mods can add muxh more, but I haven't really used mods, just the DLC. Main reason is that these builds are on my real progress savegame. Still hunting a trophy or two.. :)
For deleting items in specific locations like using the drop weapons ammo glitch to get more settlement space i throw down at least a rug in the area i intend to pick stuff up from so if i accidentally delete what i didnt mean to highlitght its just a rug
PS Miura dude... that facitlity is mindblowing..... lol i saw another guys build where he had put concrete walls against the conveyor belts n builts walls up along the sides in areas where he was having to constantly round up stuff off the floor
i will say, without the use of mods, that you can break apart stuff. shoving stuff like pencils (for lead) into things like ammo factories will turn them into base components. potentially have a hopper that takes the rest out??? *shrug*
dude, any chance of a video of how to build your sorting factory? i want to do something similar but sorting slightly differently. i tried but it looks crap and is too big, i need it to be more space saving.
I might in the future, but sadly not yet. If you're making a compact build, make sure to use the tight 90 degree connectors, and use the lifts up and over to get right connections. Upper floors csn be tricky though. Also make sure to place the first machine very well in-line with the Base or the later machines go diagonally off. I have two lines of machines at the bottom, and you look carefully the last ones get very close to each other. TBH, these machines are glitchy for placement.
i managed to recreate it in the end, i found the hopers snap to upper floor panels so i used them to make sure its all in line. my set up sorts armour, weapons and aid.
+Nightworlder Glad you found a solution. Yeah, the snapping is a little glitchy, especially with upper floor areas. In my version 2 (see other video) the manufacturing parts are placed just above the main conveyor so it drops items onto it. Tricky to setup, but can also save space.
If you are interested, I've just done a complete build of a new food processing facility in four parts: th-cam.com/play/PLBAIJNG8SEtxZpYa1BzFHITwNvNcl5Fwb.html
hey dude my idea was simular itbtakes 30 diffrent sorters 30 materials ig set up a warehouse with 12 builders 9 diverters 2 hoppers all single conected but on top of it youre idea comes in handy
This is really cool, but I'm confused as to what the point is. If you're building from the workshop, it just takes the materials you need anyway, right? And also, if all your resources are in those end units, can you build anything without having to move it back?
Colte Bicking Well, yes build mode uses workbench items (and supply lines), but they are not sent to other workbenches in other locations. Vacuum hoppers only remove local workbench items not all items across all locations, no matter how many supply lines you have. I find it useful to collect stacks of items here for other locations.
It is a problem to place lots of things. For example, seems some bases can clip the terrain and others don't. Frustrating. You can use the auto-snap of some objects to cheat it, place a base that works (even if not what was wanted) snap the other walls to it, then delete and replace the original base. You can also build objects inside some blocks, see my Christmas video for hidden wiring in the concrete. Still, FO4 could have done with an option to override it, like Ark did.
No, sadly the DLC Contraptions workshop only has a builder for normal armor. You cannot build any power armor parts. I don't know if there are any mods that might create them. For power armor parts, you need to find them in the wasteland. Sometimes the spawning raider gangs may be using some, so you can get parts that way.
It's just for fun and something interesting to build. No need to sort inventory as such, but it can be fun to do so. It also drags in collected items from other settlements, like food.
About the stuff that are dropped on the floor and misclicking on the concrete when breaking them up: remove the concrete and put some low fences around it, like a childrens playpen. It might not be pretty, but the factory will not be swimming in junk :-)
It is about 8 by 12 foundation blocks in floor size. But it isn't as big as the replacement build I made at the same location here : th-cam.com/video/U358DRKJNvg/w-d-xo.html Which is just huge. -M
Sorters just need the items in their inventory to sort them. Either component sorter or item sorter. First part of this build sorts out food, like Purified water. The second sorter removes any items and has a crazy long inventory to do that. Then the rest of the sorters simply remove each kind of component. Hope that helps. :) -M
So, that's why you have so many sorters, to factor in or in this case out different useful items? Thanks for showing the vacuum hopper, as I was wondering if there was a way to auto feed from my workbench. Does the vacuum hopper scan for components needed within all other items and them extract what you need from each item?
Matthew Houghtaling Yep exactly. Some sort wanted bits, others take out unwanted bits. Sadly, vacuum hoppers just remove items from workbenches, storage, or building machines. No sorting. Vacuum hoppers can also be used to "purge" or clean out other parts. Used that in my firework build. :)
Man, all these factories and builders seem like such a waste of time. The work bench already sorts things for you, no? So now instead of just scrolling through your items you have to physically run to each location of the item, lol. These factories, while kinda fun to build, are completely useless.
Totally rebuilt HUGE sorting facility: th-cam.com/video/U358DRKJNvg/w-d-xo.html This one is a monster!
Well done! I like the idea of grabbing purified water from one location when I need to buy stuff
I know this is old but I tried this and it emptied everything from my workshop but did not pull water or food from any other settlements. I tried it in vault 88 if that makes any difference

Wait until he finds out about the local leader perk
nice addition with the nuka cola for mr skelly
The manufacturing extended mod adds machines that break down junk to their components
my suggestion for the stuff dumped on the floor would be to have it dumped outside onto the ground.. that way you don't scrap your floor on accident.. and may I add.. OMFG that thing is EPIC lmao.. I want one...

Kurt Vachon Thanks. Glad you liked it. Interested to see how you build it. :)
The best I've seen. Kudos to you! Great video and informative.
This is one of the Best factory builds I've seen!! Great job!!
Thanks. Glad you liked it. :) I also did an update to this build and also a food factory.
PS Miura I watched all of them!! I just started getting into the factory stuff now!! You have a great vision!
Good video, I like the way you used the vacuum hopper to take materials out of the workbench, clever idea! Subbed!

@@PSMiura pc has the best version of this mod, it's very limited on ps4...

I always use frag grenades to clear those pesky skeletons before I build anything.

Why didn't I think to build around the workshop building at Starlight Drive-in? Gotta copy that, thanks. And thank you for the giant sorting plant idea.
Russell Loyd Thanks! Glad you liked it. Starlight drive-in is also a really good flat location for builds.
to make it 2 in 1 is crazywork

God the gears needed to produce this video
Nice work! Also, finally somebody just gets to it instead of talking for 5 minutes first about pointless shit, ty sir!
To bad that there is no scrapping machine.

Yeah, I've seen a few builds like that too. Over-sized items cause problems too.
my framerate dropped just from watching this
If you want to get rid of something static like that skeleton, just open the Console and click on it and type " Disable " ^_^
i will say, without the use of mods, that you can break apart stuff. shoving stuff like pencils (for lead) into things like ammo factories will turn them into base components. potentially have a hopper that takes the rest out??? *shrug*
Rebuilt version of this facility using MODS: th-cam.com/video/PIQ4oAItabI/w-d-xo.html
There are mods where you can build a chest that scraps junk.
if you supply line your settlements together, then the components/items are shared...negating the sorting system.
Yes, that is true. But that wasn't the point here with this build! It's just a fun sorting machine. -M
Do you have a how to on this. I would like to replicate it
I have a build series for a food factory, you can see the playlist here: th-cam.com/video/7fPXI3RtvXo/w-d-xo.html

How do you program a conveyor storage to store a specific material?
Put one of the items in it an it’ll only pick up that item
If you want to lower your build limit just drop a shit load of modded weapons from enemies.
Scrap in edit mode and watch it drop
This is really cool, but I'm confused as to what the point is. If you're building from the workshop, it just takes the materials you need anyway, right? And also, if all your resources are in those end units, can you build anything without having to move it back?

Nice what roofs and walls are those
Zachery VS It is the warehouse walls and roofs from the contraptions DLC.
How is it possible to build like this? If i want to build anything its allways cant place this here or shit just floating

Can these factory machines create power Armors?
No, sadly the DLC Contraptions workshop only has a builder for normal armor. You cannot build any power armor parts. I don't know if there are any mods that might create them. Okay, but why do this at all? Why spend the caps for generators, a warehouse, and all the factory stuff? How does it advance the game?
It's just for fun and something interesting to build. No need to sort inventory as such, but it can be fun to do so. It also drags in collected items from other settlements, like food.
Your built limit is horrible by doing that now in survivor I just do run and recycle manually and get put money into shops
really cool video, but I can't find the power generators ingame, is that a mod?
Fredrik Lagerström No not a mod, but was part of a DLC, the workshop DLC I think.
Aah, thank you, that was the one I was missing! Many thanks!
About the stuff that are dropped on the floor and misclicking on the concrete when breaking them up: remove the concrete and put some low fences around it, like a childrens playpen. It might not be pretty, but the factory will not be swimming in junk :-)

No, not as such. But it did allow me to walk past it, or under it rather.
fair enough
