      I also lost a much loved puppy baby recently. He was a hobo puppy before he came to be my baby because I always saw him on the railroad tracks near my house. Shortly after I found him, I lost everything. My house, my husband and my daughter. I truly would not have survived without that precious puppy. He was my angel, and now he is gone too. I soooooo understand how you feel. My prayers are with you my friend.

    When this song was released, I was pregnant with my son and I loved this song about a mother and child reunion; I would be reunited, in the flesh, with my child soon. I had a son and the birth was so difficult that he would be my only child. Two and a half years ago, I lost my son suddenly to a cyst in his brain that laid dormant his whole life. He was 44. The words are now more poignant than ever for me for one day we will be reunited again, spiritually.

      This song has come to my mind today. I kept hearing it, and It took a while to realize what it was saying. “Mother and child reunion !” It seems to have come out of nowhere, really. But I am mourning the loss of my 41 year old son who died suddenly of a rare cancer last May 2. I am tortured with grief at times. But I will see him one day and we are going to rejoice for ever.

    • @panasonicism
      @panasonicism ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Lynford "Hux" Brown (4 December 1944 - 18 June 2020) was a Jamaican guitarist who featured on many successful rocksteady and reggae records in the 1960s and 1970s, and was later a member of Toots and the Maytals.
      WHEN Paul Simon's Mother And Child Reunion was released in 1972, Americans were instantly taken by the song's reggae flavour and its unique tremolo guitar intro. That came courtesy of Lynford “Hux” Brown, an outstanding session musician who died Thursday in Oakland, California. He was 75.
      His growing reputation drew Simon to use him as one of the Jamaican musicians for his self-titled debut album, which was partially recorded at Dynamic Sounds in Kingston in 1971.

    My dad just passed away... Such a void in my heart.
    I was born in France. Raised in boarding school from age 5 to 18. One day, my dad convinced the school to let me go to a "philharmonic concert"... I escaped one night so I could go to the Graceland concert in Paris on June 16, 1989 :-) Paul Simon's songs are all my childhood, and it makes me stay strong during all those awful years. Thank you so much for making my life so much easier! I just heard this song on the radio in my car... I haven't listened to it in years... Brought so many happy memories.

    • @wordsofcheresie936
      @wordsofcheresie936 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll add this. The song is even worse than the lyrics. If you research the title of the song, it comes from a mother and a baby being cooked together in the same pot. That sounds impossible, but it is true.

    • @bendonnelly690
      @bendonnelly690 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@wordsofcheresie936 Don't be so dramatic. The title refers to a chicken-and-egg dinner that Paul saw on a Chinese Menu. Meanwhile, The lyrics themselves are about the death of a dog that Simon experienced very early in life.
