Shortly after I found him, I lost everything. My house, my husband and my daughter. I truly would not have survived without that precious puppy. He was my angel, and now he is gone too. When this song was released, I was pregnant with my son and I loved this song about a mother and child reunion; I would be reunited, in the flesh, with my child soon. I had a son and the birth was so difficult that he would be my only child. Two and a half years ago, I lost my son suddenly to a cyst in his brain that laid dormant his whole life. He was 44. The words are now more poignant than ever for me for one day we will be reunited again, spiritually.

I remember this from when it was originally released, but I don’t think I ever really appreciated how great a track it is until I heard it the other day at Panera’s. The arrangement, performances, and production are both soulful and meticulous and complement the song itself wonderfully. I particularly like the percussion and background singing.

My Mum passed over at the age of forty six when I was just twenty and nine months pregnant with her much longed-for very first Grandchild. Just before my first child was born, I named my little one, Kim Moira. 💕 My Mother's name was Moira. 💕 Kim Moira was born on October 5, 1968. My Dad said to me a few years later that I should listen to Paul Simon's "Mother and Child Reunion". It is only now, today that I truly understand what my dearest Dad was trying to tell me, via this wonderful song with its meaningful lyrics. 💕💕💕

I have always loved this song. It has significant meaning to me, now. I lost my sister, very unexpectedly, on May 10th, 2023. My Mom died just 2 days later. Life has been hard for me, ever since.

My best friend died 5 years ago, aged 33. His mother had died of cancer only the year before. Around a month after his funeral I was singing mindlessly to this song on the radio, then the lyrics hit like a freight train and a lot of repressed grief finally came out. It’s such a beautiful song and clearly carries great meaning for so many. I smile when I hear it now and think of them reunited in peace. Thank you Paul 🙏
Cissy Houston sang background on this great track. The mother of Whitney Houston left this world yesterday. Now she and Whitney are having The Mother and Child Réunion. Rest in Power Queen.
