Sorry for the loss of your parents. Thank you for sharing this we just booked today for our first Viking cruise. Celebrating 40 years of marriage this year. Doing the Rhine getaway with the extra days before and after this coming summer! Appreciate the tips
Congratulations on your wedding anniversary at 40 years! You will love this cruise and the cruise line, Viking. And you were smart to go a couple days before and a couple days after it’s well worth it if you’re gonna be over there already. I hope you have a great time Joan.
Great video, we’re going on our second Viking cruise in three weeks, and this was still helpful. Although we are very content with the lowest level room, because we were absolutely never in our room except to sleep.
Glad to hear you were good with the lower level room. We will be down there on our Viking Rhine trip in a few days. We are rarely in our room on any cruise we take.
I’m sorry about that. I’m going to edit it and load another version. I will post the link here and if you want you can subscribe to the channel it will show up in your feed when it’s done.
I loaded a new audio remixed video if you are still interested...it should be easier to hear what we are saying. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/B_ZKWENK1xQ/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for a very informative video. We went on a Viking cruise between Budapest and Amsterdam last October. I did enjoy it and agree with your comments. We had a cabin on the top level with opening sliding doors, not as good as your balcony but a good compromise. We didn’t notice much noise from the sundeck above. The cabin was quite small but well designed. We did a lot of excursions, they were all good, however, I think that we should have booked less and had more free time. Apart from breakfast and dessert the food was terrible. I think that you are right, it depends on the chef. We found that there was enough free table space to eat on our own. Ninety percent of the guests were from the US and we actually didn’t like most of them. However, there were about three couples, all from the US, that we liked a lot. That was good enough for us! We also booked hotels for two nights at each end through Viking. They were very good. Viking arranged all transfers between airports, hotels and the boat, all this was carried out perfectly. Would we do it again? Probably not. Only because we want to visit other places. All the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
It's nice to hear from Sydney Australia! Thank you for all of the information on your experience - I'm sure others will find it helpful too. We find it challenging to meet people we like - I'm glad you found three couples you liked! I call that a win. The first cruise we went on to Normandy had a chef from Spain and since we both really enjoy the food in Spain we really enjoyed the food on that cruise. The second one was an entirely different story - at least for dinner. I'm not sure what his background was but I recall being disappointed. Good luck on your future travels!
Great video. We are going on our first river cruise in a couple of weeks. One minor issue with the video was the background music. It was nice, but sometimes it was hard to hear what was being said. Thanks for the video.
Sorry about that - if you look in the description I did do a remix to soften the music. You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/B_ZKWENK1xQ/w-d-xo.html - due to being a small channel I couldn't delete the old one without losing the views. TH-cam doesn't seem to like the remix version as much. I'm not sure why. Thank you for watching and commenting. :-)
Great job and loved the video. I agree with P though. The audio of your spoken word is being run over rough shod by the music. But a minor detail, I enjoyed it all the same. Thank you for taking the time to produce it, and share experienced information. My wife and I will do Paris to Normandy in November 2023 and for me it can’t come soon enough!! I’m on you tube and everywhere else digging up as much pre- knowledge info as possible. Thank you again for taking the time to put this video out.
Thank you for the compliment and I will ensure the audio is better in future videos. Paris to Normandy cruise was our favorite. If you like art and history you will love it. The Normandy American Cemetery and the memorial were impressive with ongoing ceremonies throughout the day that brought tears to my eyes. I hope the weather for you in November is okay. It might be a little rainy and chilly that time of year. Check out the link to our web page for more details on our Paris to Normandy trip and enjoy your trip!
Thanks for the informative video !! We've just booked the 'Paris To Normandy' river cruise on Viking for mid-April 2025......Do you think the Seine water levels will be an issue that time of year ? Or the weather ?? Thanks again !!!!
Thank you. We can't predict the water levels. It will depend on how much precipitation they get over the winter months. April can be chilly. We enjoyed our trip from Paris to Normandy that we took in June much more than the trip we took on the Rhone River in April. Mostly, because it was too cold for us. We are from Florida - so keep that in mind. If you like it chilly, it will be fine, but it tends to be more cloudy and cold that early in the season. Viking frequently offers these trips at a discount because the weather is not as nice. Paris to Normandy is a good trip tho. We hope you have a great time!
Nice channel you two. Your itinerary links, reviews are well organized and informative without over doing it. Celeste, the only criticism I have is how hard it is to hear your audio on this video. you sound muddy throughout it in my opinion. Maybe you can correct that for future videos. I give you guys a solid 9 out of 10. I really appreciate your "keep it real" approach to this kind of cruising.
Thank you for the feedback! I've had a few people tell me that it is hard to hear my voice on this one. My voice is naturally much quieter than Terry's and I need to make adjustments when I'm editing. I will pay more attention to that and to the level of any audio/music in the background. A new microphone might help me too. I've thought about editing this one and reloading it again - if I do that I will lose all of the metrics associated with it. We appreciate the input and we are glad that you like the content. We are trying to focus on data that will help other people.
My husband and and I we are old souls 😂I’m 46 him 43 we are homebodies and I was born and raised near to lord off rivers and waterfalls in my home town !!! Always Swimming in those rivers I adore rives sweet water falls !!! I’m considering do this one day hopefully soon ❤
I think "old souls" would have a wonderful time on a river cruise! Some of the best parts for us were just motoring down the river. Make sure to pick a good time of year. The trip we took in April was a little too cold for us and we didn't get to enjoy the outdoor time as much. Thank you for commenting and I hope you take the trip one day soon.
Looks a lovely holiday. My wife and I enjoyed sailing on Viking Sea around the Caribbean from New York, via Bermuda, but found the entertainment poor. We are in our late 50’s/early 60’s and got bored listening to violin and piano music 🫢
I can see how that would get boring, especially during sea days. We haven't tried the ocean-going ships yet and we were wondering how they are. Was there a large gym on the ship you were on?
A great video, thank you! We are booked on our first ever cruise - a viking river cruse - next August and I am *really* worried about the water levels. August is the only time my husband can come so we're kind of stuck. Fingers crossed the water levels won't be too low on the Rhine.
Our fingers are crossed for you... have a great time! We will be in France in late August visiting the Loire Valley and the Dordogne and a few other locations. We are hoping for reasonable weather too.
Thanks for the tips. We are heading out on the Rhine getaway in 3 weeks. This will be our first Viking cruise. We've been wondering how much Euros to take with us. The Viking site says to "take a small amount" as US dollars are not accepted. Of course we will have our credit cards with us. Can you provide any insight into how much might be an acceptable amount? Thank you.
We usually bring $100 or $200 euros with us in cash just in case we need it for transportation purposes or anything else that arises before we can get to an ATM machine. With Viking usually, you don't have any transportation requirements so it's unlikely you will need anything beyond your credit card but it's always nice to have cash as a cushion. Also, let your credit card companies know that you are traveling so they don't decline transactions and be prepared for smaller shop owners to not take credit cards sometimes or to not take American Express. Having more than one credit card type is a good idea and chip based credit card will be easier for them to process. Having cash in your pocket is a good backup if anything goes wrong with the credit cards. We use a lot more cash in Europe than we do at home. I hope this helps.
Thank you for commenting and glad that you enjoyed in the content. In the description for the video we have a link to another re-mixed version with the sound adjusted. If you plan to share it with anyone use that link instead. 🙂
Yes, It is for some users - I'm sorry. I did a remix of the video that you can find here: th-cam.com/video/B_ZKWENK1xQ/w-d-xo.html due to youtube rules I can't replace the old one. If I delete it, I lose the hours watched which are important to us at this time.
I'm sorry - this is happening to some folks based on their set up. I have a remixed version that I put in the description of the video. You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/B_ZKWENK1xQ/w-d-xo.html
yep - we have another version if quieter music listed in the description and th-cam.com/video/B_ZKWENK1xQ/w-d-xo.html and I'm using music more sparingly in newer videos. Sorry about that.
If you’re diabetic, or have special dietary needs, forget it! Appalling treatment, even after paying a large amount of money to travel. I’ll never, ever sail with Viking again.
That is very good info for other travelers. We didn't have restrictions at the time when we went so I didn't even think about that aspect of taking the trips.

Thank you for your thoughts. Your itinerary sounds wonderful! Extra time in Amsterdam and Switzerland will be well worth it.
Congratulations on your wedding anniversary at 40 years! You will love this cruise and the cruise line, Viking. And you were smart to go a couple days before and a couple days after it’s well worth it if you’re gonna be over there already. I hope you have a great time Joan.
@@gloriamiller5515 thanks so much!
Thank you for this information, I was trying to decide between the middle or the top level.
Great video, we’re going on our second Viking cruise in three weeks, and this was still helpful. Although we are very content with the lowest level room, because we were absolutely never in our room except to sleep.
Thanks for the comment. Congrats on your upcoming cruise. A good point regarding the lower level rooms. It's all about your own priorities. :-)
Glad to hear you were good with the lower level room. We will be down there on our Viking Rhine trip in a few days. We are rarely in our room on any cruise we take.
I would have loved to hear what you had to say, but the background music is so overwhelming!
I’m sorry about that. I’m going to edit it and load another version. I will post the link here and if you want you can subscribe to the channel it will show up in your feed when it’s done.

We loved the Paris to Normandy trip. We hope you have a great time whichever you book.
Same here, great info straight to the point!
Sounds exciting :) Viking is most renowned in the field.

For the brief time the background music was off it was excellent.
sorry about that - we have another version with it toned down here: th-cam.com/video/B_ZKWENK1xQ/w-d-xo.html. Our recent videos have a lot less music.

@@justtravelingthru_ thank you so much. Your response is greatly appreciated. I forwarded it on to our friends that are traveling with us.
Great video. Maybe next time reduce or remove the music. The sound is too high and it distracts from the voice
Thank you for commenting and glad that you enjoyed in the content. In the description for the video we have a link to another re-mixed version with the sound adjusted. If you plan to share it with anyone use that link instead. 🙂
Great video however the music is annoying
This was hard to hear because of your background music! couldn't finish the video
Thinking about doing another one without the annoying music. Would you be interested?
The music is too loud…
Yes, It is for some users - I'm sorry. I did a remix of the video that you can find here: th-cam.com/video/B_ZKWENK1xQ/w-d-xo.html
due to youtube rules I can't replace the old one. If I delete it, I lose the hours watched which are important to us at this time.
I could NOT hear you over the music, lasted less than 30 seconds.
I'm sorry - this is happening to some folks based on their set up. I have a remixed version that I put in the description of the video. You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/B_ZKWENK1xQ/w-d-xo.html
Too hard to understand what you’re saying….
Sorry about that - Try this version. I tried remixing it - th-cam.com/video/B_ZKWENK1xQ/w-d-xo.html
Background music too loud and unnecessary.
Yes, I'm sorry about that. If you look in the video description there is a link to a newer version which is mixed better.
Had to turn off the video after 1minute because of the canned music.
yeah - sorry. We have another version with software music. I'm learning to limit the music. th-cam.com/video/B_ZKWENK1xQ/w-d-xo.html
Stop the music
yep - we have another version if quieter music listed in the description and th-cam.com/video/B_ZKWENK1xQ/w-d-xo.html and I'm using music more sparingly in newer videos. Sorry about that.
