  • Chuck bought a Da Vinci 1.0A with an #0030 error on EBAY that was sold for parts but he fixed it with a little troubleshooting and a solder sleeve from Inventables.com. This appears to be a fairly common failure mode so hopefully this will help anybody else with this kind of failure mode.

    Thank you so much! This repair saved my bacon. Found an intermittent break in my orange wire. I am currently printing 3D parts for face shields for health workers in the Covid-19 crisis... The printer is up and running again.
    Because my wire break was intermittent, and I did not know which wire it might be, I made a serial connection of all four wires with jumper cables so that I could test them all at once with the Ohm Meter attached to the yellow and orange cable at the circuit board end and a jumper between blue and red there and then two jumpers, between the yellow and red and between blue and orange on the motor end.
    I then wiggled the cables and pushed the printhead back and forth until the break showed itself. It was near the motor where the cable tie holds the cable boom to the stepper motor plastic frame.
    Solved!

    I have a 2 yr old 1.0a that just got a 0030 error... I checked the motor harness and it was o.k., checked the motor by switching axes and it was o.k., too... Checked the home sensor (three red for x-axis) and one wire was intermittent. Spliced the wire and it works so far - getting the sensor plug out (and back in) was a bit of a problem. Thanks to Chuck for showing that the harness problem does not mean a dead printer!

    found out what it was, the turntable was off calibration. Take a star screwdriver, take off turntable and there's a little hole under the turntble, line it up with the laser in the back of the printer ( located inside, rear of the printer) fired right up! thanks again for the help Chuck!

    hey Chuck
    Thanks for the GREAT videos using the Da Vinci , I just repaired mine after watching this video getting the 0030 error, but my 3 red wires not the 4 wire plug was damaged. wasn't broke all the way thru, replaced wire and good to go!

    Great video Chuck..I've been having that problem on and off (it must be an intermittent connection like it was said here) I don't have a multimeter, but as soon as I find one, I'm glad to know there's now a video to fix the error...Thanks..!!

    Last night I was 3 hours into a 4 hour print when all of a sudden the clip for the X-axis tensioner pulley exploded into multiple parts. After turning it back on it gave the same 0030 error, so I wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem.
    While this video isn't for the same issue, it is some great information! I don't know how I never knew about solder sleeves, but now that I see it, I need it. :)

    The solder sleeve looks super useful, I just did a similar repair using crimp on spade plugs for the heater. These printers are great because they're cheap, but you get what you pay for. I bought mine from a warehouse that sells amazon returns, it was not working, but it was $250 in the days when a new starter printer was $700 if you were lucky. It turned out the ribbon cable to the LCD got placed slightly wrong under the case and got stuck in a pinch point. A little rough soldering and I had myself a functional printer for half the price.

    The wire that was broken is an indicator of excessive flex in that area. The other wires in the loom may fatigue soon as well.
    I would suggest replacing all the wires from the motor connector to the first tie down point of the loom with flexible silicone covered wire similar to what is used for RC Electric motors. It can be bought in many colors and many gauge sizes.
    I personally would replace the entire wire run for both motors.
    For example.... www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__466__377__Hardware_Accessories-Silicon_Wire_Mesh_Guard.html
    The silicone wire is also high heat rated and won't dry out...

    I just got my Da Vinci Jr. I had a few error from cables being loose (0014) but over all pretty sweet. I have it running my first print right now :D
    And there is not 0030 error in sight. Yay!

    Can you explain in more detail how to check if its the motor or motherboard? My wires checked out fine with a multi meter on the x axis motor and I am getting a 0030 error. Im thinking of selling mine on ebay as Ive spent many hours trying to fix this.

    After watching this video, we were able to fix the wire problem and it prints!! Thanks! However, as of the first print after the fix it no longer goes through the routine of nozzle wiping and prints 2 to 3 inches to the left of the the assigned place. Any ideas?

    Chuck, I am having a strange problem.
    I have a 1.0a that had this same problem, I had 3 motor wires broken and 1 sensor wire, I repaired everything and all is good and well. However now the extruder is about 2 mm off. if i try to auto level the bed the zprobe fails because the extruder isn't moving far enough left to get a reading. (i have Repetier 0.92 installed) any help would be great. Thanks

    Hi Chuck! I switch the cables in the mainboard to see if the problem was there and the printer go crazy. The right was left and left was right. Also front was back and back was front. So I couldn't see if the mainboard was the problem or not.
    I will see if the problem is in the cables .. But you know where I can buy a Mainboard??

    Hello, I'd like to start by thanking you for your informative videos about DaVinci printers. I'm following this and the 0011 error since both have happened simultaneously. I've checked the connections to my extruder with a multimeter, performed the soldering fix you suggested in the 0011 video, and it registers as a good connection. However, the problem still persists on the extruder. How would I go about checking the motherboard? The extruder doesn't have an identical plug like the x, y, and z axes do. So I can't check it that way. It will not heat above 21C. Thank you again for these videos.

    • @DESTOVIAC
      @DESTOVIAC 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Thanks. All of that is fine. I set it up to clean the nozzle and since the temp stays the same on the display, I shot my heat gun at the extruder to see if the temperature reading would register. It did. So I suppose the heater went out because the thermistor could track the rising temperature.

    great video! quick question, I have 2 printers AIO and Duo. they both have started printing offset (if that's the proper term). I've tried different slicers simplify3d and xyz, changed cables, etc. the weird thing is the demos print fine, everything else starts fine, then shifts to the left. thanks

    My 1.0A has been solid for years now just today it started shifting on the X axis , pretty sure this is the first signs of the same wire harness failing

  • @briandodds
    @briandodds 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have an issue with my X axis moving to the left a small mount every time I try to home it. I'm not getting the error. Do you think this could be a broken wire to the X home sensor instead of the motor?

    • @briandodds
      @briandodds 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I took it apart today and discovered that 2 of the 3 red wires for my home sensor were if fact broken and the 3rd wire was almost totally broken. There was a Zip Tie on the side where the X motors is and that is the exact location where the wires broke. I bet in the very same place as your broken blue wire. My 3 red wires were at the top of the bundle taking all the stress of that bend. All fixed now, but I didn't have any Solder Sleeve so I had to do it the old way.

    Hi Chuck. My Da Vinci 1.1 Plus is down. Suddenly while printing the interior light stopped and the motors are not moving anymore. hi Chucky
      it's true, is not the sensor.
      I did what you suggested, change to X to Y driver, and the issue was transferred to the Y axis,
      i tried to change X to Y motor engine, but its different size, so I tested the engine alone, wired X and X driver, the problem appeared again
      It seemed the problem was in the cable, but I tested pin to pin and it is beeping pin to pin OK.
      even so did another test to confirm, I connected the cable X to Y motor and the problem appeared, so I concluded that the problem is in the cable, but how ???? as this pin to pin connected, is it possible???
      can give me a suggestion?
      grateful

    I don't get why they don't use a other quality of cable when that part moves that much. A silicon flat-cable would work better, less wear. www.daburn.com/2606-DaFlex-Silicone-Ultra-Flexible-Flat-Ribbon-Cable.aspx something like this, you can get em color coded.
