No, it's not weird. People have been obsessing over Freddie and his INSANE talent for decades. I love watching you react to them! In my opinion, Queen was and is one of the greatest bands who existed. And I am 39, so I was very young when Freddie died. Queen was special, but Freddie was a legend.

You have to see the whole set. Still considered the greatest live performance of all time. You won't be disappointed. Freddie was told not to perform due to throat problems. He was still unbelievable. When his voice gets a little shaky, pay attention to Roger stepping up in the background so Freddie's voice could take a step back a few times. That's why they were so great. They were in tune to each other.

  • @Sassypaws4927

Keep in mind, Freddie was performing against his doctor's orders. He had a throat infection but that didn't stop him from giving one of the best (if not the BEST) live performances ever.
BTW - Queen's lineup for LIVE AID was
    1. Bohemian Rhapsody (only the Ballad and guitar solo)
    2. Radio GaGa (they performed faster than the studio version)
    3. Freddie's call and response
    4. Hammer To Fall
    5. Crazy Little Thing Called Love
    6. We Wil Rock You (Just the 1st verse)
    7. We Are The Champions.
    That's a lot for just 20 minutes.

No, actually - he had laryngitis here I believe, (or was recovering), but he wasn't diagnosed with AIDS until two years later in 1987. He may have suspected his HIV status, however. He didn't begin noticing symptoms until during the Magic tour in 1986. The movie added a bit of dramatic fiction.

It really is so great having you back. I really love your bubbling enthusiasm and your cute looks don't hurt either. I have missed your comments especially about Freddie Mercury and Queen. They are without a doubt the greatest band out of the rock and roll era. This performance was the undisputed greatest of all time. Live was 70,000 fans at Wembley stadium where Queen performed, 90,000 connected remotely in Philadelphia, and an estimated TV audience of 1 billion. The effect of the performance turned around a fund driving effort that had seen many well known bands do somewhat lackluster performances and thus a pittance was raised until a Queen performed. You really need to see the entire thing in one sitting to understand why people call this the greatest single performance of all time. Once again glad to see you back.

Queen was always at their best live! Freddie always enunciated clearly - for anyone deaf, they could lipread him! And the guitar was made by Brian May's Dad and himself in a shed - the neck is made from a mahogany mantel shelf and the body from part of an oak dining table - it is The Red Special and is priceless and unique and still played regularly! 💖

UR BACK!!! so happy to see that :D and can't go wrong with queen live tbh, no two performances they did were alike because they improvised so much and freddie actually famously said that people who wanted to hear their music as it is on the album should just play the record instead of coming to a concert because the band didn't WANT to sound the same live as they do on the recording. i know everyone is going to say watch all of live aid (and you should, it's a masterclass on live performances) but rock montreal is my favorite so i'm gonna go ahead and recommend the killer queen/i'm in love with my car medley, we will rock you (fast version), another one bites the dust, and under pressure from that concert. also in the lap of the gods from the rainbow.

  • @Sumaheep

6:58 the realization that you have about Freddie’s mouth (not just the lip). I was actually thinking that while watching it too! I am so glad you caught that! You’re absolutely right! Singers usually try to adjust the vowel placement to make it sound better. And Freddie (MotherEffing) Mercury knew how to do it best! Every movement of his mouth, every placement of his vowel, every movement of the body, even the way he breathed was so intentional! Idk if you are a singer or have ever taken vocal lessons before, but what you caught right there was quite extraordinary. It goes unnoticed by mostly everyone. Great job! Great reaction! 💯
It’s so great to see someone falling in love with this band the way I did!

As a child Freddie lived in a boys boarding school in India/ his diction is perfect- I love watching you with Freddie! And the guitarist Brian May still performing in concerts- and also the drummer Roger Taylor is with him as Queen. These men pretty much grew up together as young men. When they were beginning Queen the bass guitarist John Deacon was a mere 19 years old. All members are graduates of University in England. Brian continued his education and is now Dr. Brian May - Astrophysicist- sometimes conferring with NASA.

It brings me back to the first time I heard these songs, and it reminds me how exciting they are. I can feel the emotions flickering across your face, and I'm right there with you. I think "yeah, that part is amazing" and then you back it up to hear it again and I know we're hearing the same thing.

    In case you didn’t know…
Live Aid was a charity concert in 1985 to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia with several famous acts who volunteered to participate and didn’t get paid. Each act had a 20 minute set. A lot of the other performers played their current songs to promote their albums and didn’t take advantage of the time.
Queen took it seriously and spent a week or so putting their playlist together and they had giant clocks in front of them so they could practice and pack as much in as they could in 20 minutes. It also helped that the sound guy worked for Queen and tweaked it so that Queen was louder than everyone else.
By the middle of the set, the other acts backstage started to watch them on the monitors and realized that Queen was stealing the show and basically kicked everyone’s ass and they knew it!!
Many people say it’s the best live performance. Also, because the stage was pretty basic due to all the different artists, critics didn’t think Queen would pull it off because their shows are typically a huge production with lighting etc. and again Queen shut down the critics proving that they can put on a great show with just the four of them.

I know you've decided to split Live Aid up. Please consider watching it as it's intended...all at once. It's how they constructed (only playing parts of some songs, like Bo Rhap) and performed the most perfect 20 minutes history. • @josiepkat
    @josiepkat ปีที่แล้ว +1

He's creating a tone - and a color to that note when he holds his mouth open a certain way. When he covers his teeth with his lip it darkens that sound. When he pulls his lips back and bares his teeth it makes a brighter sound. You're NOT crazy. It's very perceptive that you caught that and sense that it has something to do with his sound. This is artistry of the highest order. All of the tones, bright sounds, rasp, etc, he makes are like colors a painter uses. When you see him gracefully arch his back through a long sustained note - he's using his entire body in a natural way to make that sound. He's not forcing it - he's just so consistent and in control of his basic singing voice that he can then play further, using his physicality to further express himself vocally. This is why you hear such a consistent, beautiful sound with him. He never studied, so it's something he instinctively knew (perhaps over time) how to do. Look at the beautiful posture he has when he glides over that stage like a dancer; he always has a relaxed and supported sound. He is an absolute marvel. What a gift to the world he was.

I can only second watching the whole set. And read up on the background also, or watch videos/documentaries on it. The whole Live Aid was more or less failing up until Queen went on, it was a quite underwhelming experience for both live- and the TV audience. And then Queen went on, without anyone (especially Bob Geldof, who arranged the whole event) expecting much. And then they just went on and knocked it out of the park.

Queen, one of the very few that could be better live than in a studio. Freddies ability to play a croud was phenomenal

So, I saw Queen in Nottingham quite a few years ago. At the time, Paul Rogers jumped in as the singer...
But I remember 1991... I don't usually cry when one of the greats pass, but that was one of those occasions...
And then 2016 hit so hard, and I didn't stop crying for the whole bloody year... David Bowie, Glen Frey, Alan Rickman, and I thought, bloody hell, it's never gonna stop....
And I know your american, and I'm from the European continent, and moved to the UK in 2003.
The first voice I ever heard on the radio in the UK on the way up north from Dover was Terry Wogan, (it felt like he was welcoming me home) and even now I feel like crying when i think about it..
So, if you're ever in the mood for a laugh, or you need a bit of a boost, listen to the bbc2 morning show with Terry, when he reads Jack and Jill, or interacts with his Togs (it's on TH-cam) 🤣🤣

You also need to react to a green day concert where the crowd sings this song. Thousands of people to see green day honoring queen by singing along to the song. It's pretty awesome.

Queen live is more often than not, better than studio. You can listen to the same song at different performances, and they make it "new" every time. This is why Queen fans don't just say listen to a song live, but we have favorites at WHICH live show which song version.

You have to watch "Show must go on" by Queen. Freddie was at his worst with his battle with AIDS and to know that while hearing him sing that song in the only way Freddie could just brings it to another level. Enjoy! 😢💗

What makes this performance even more impressive is that Freddie was diagnosed with laryngitis the week before. His doctor advised him to cancel his performance but he ignored the advice and went on to make history.

You are watching the songs from Live Aid where they had only 20 minutes for the entire performance- please watch the whole set- at one setting! To get the entire phenomenon- I’ve loved Freddie since 1976- he was just in his mid twenties when he wrote Bohrap! - you know Freddie lived in a boarding school in India for 10 years of his life- he had perfect grammer

If you look at other concerts you will see that Freddie always does something different. With the song Love of my life. He performed it differently in Montreal 1981 where he sang with incredible vocals (of course), In the Rock in Rio version there are about 300,000+ Brazilians singing the majority of the song back to him and at Wembley Stadium it’s different again. You should check out all three to see the differences
