At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded by the full horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who had fought a life and death war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is only one of many terrible memories I have from 34 years of active service, and over 2 years hospitalisation. But when I remember the smiles on the children's faces, and their laughter at the terrible way we danced always reminds me that humanity will always find it's way through even the worst of times. I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears. My amazing Wife took me to see Queen at Wembley, U.K., in 1986 two weeks after I got back from Ethiopia as a surprise. I saw Queen live 6 times in all, they were incredible live. And yes, I am an old fart.
It's not just you I swear, any Queen fan has to admit that their live performances were just on a completely different level. Yes we're glad there's studio versions and albums to listen to now but, they were a force on stage.

It was good, not the greatest, because that puts others into a competition they probably don't want to be a part of. And yeah, people were there for Queen. And Bowie. And Status Quo. They weren't there for U2, who were virtual unknowns when they started their set and world famous when they finished it. At the time, Queen weren't doing so well, partly due to the I Want To Break Free video that the Americans and NTV didn't like at all. So they knew this was their chance to get back in the US. And boy, did they ever! Queen were a good, tight band with a world class singer at the front.
The concert was at Wembley in London there were around 72,000 at Wembley & simultaneously around 89,000 in Philadelphia & an estimated 1.9 billion watched on TV more than 75 acts performed to raise money for the famine in Africa x Freddie Mercury vocals & piano, Dr Brian May lead guitar & vocals, Roger Taylor drummer & vocals & John Deacon bass guitar x

You had the biggest bands of the time back to back to back. Queen stole the show. It was a concert in and of itself. Never been and never will be a greater showman than Freddie!
He was diagnosed with laryngitis a week before this concert throat issue and doctor advised he rest his voice instead of doing this concert but he gave it all he got. What a legend.
Artists take notes! Freddy is the Stage God! The best part is that his stage presence was him, not an act. He lived his life the same way on stage that he did off stage. A True Showmen! The center of every room. RIP to the Stage God
I agree with you about Radio Gaga. It's actually sped up quite a bit from the studio version. Same with the followup song, Hammer To Fall. Every performer only had about 20 minutes and Queen were the ones who used the time the best by shortening some songs and speeding up others.
My girl when she was a baby LOVED “Radio Gaga” BLASTED that in the preschool parking lot😂😂😂 Mama was proud LOL!!! Also she been answering to “ready Freddie?” ForEVER Bless!!👏✨👏✨
Queen: Freddie Mercury-lead singer, piano, song writer, artist; Dr. Brian May- guitarist, backup singer, songwriter, astrophysicist! John Deacon- bass guitarist, songwriter, electrical engineer (designed Brian’s amp); Roger Taylor- drums, back up singer, songwriter, biologist. These guys were serious musical artists. Try songs: You take my breath away( live 1976 Hyde park) also Save Me, In the Lap of the Gods, Love of my life, Another one bites the dust, Under pressure (live Wembley), Cool Cat, Get down make love, It’s a kind of magic. Thanks!
The extraordinary guitar player is Brian May. If his achievements with Queen aren't enough, after Freddie Mercury's death there was a lull where Queen was not performing. In that time Brian May completed his PhD in astrophysics.
An interesting point to note is that Freddie Mercury was the only "artist" in the band (he went to uni for art and design) - Brian May is an astrophysicist (put his PhD on hold when Queen took off), Roger Taylor was studying to be a dentist until he got bored and changed his degree to BSc Biology and John Deacon was an electrical engineer (studied electronics at uni and they say this was one of the reasons he got into the band).
Wow, I was 3 when this took place.. 🤦🏾 I'm actually beginning to have a bigger appreciation and love for Queen through watching your reaction videos. I'd heard of them but never actually paid attention to their music. They're incredibly awesome😎🤘🏾🖤🎸
It’s not just you. Everyone loves live Queen. Their concerts were legendary & this 20 minute set is a great example of how good they were. They rehearsed this set for a week, while most of the other performers went out their and just winged it.

Yay! Thank you 🙏 So glad you've taken the time to react to this. Queen we're on point for this performance at Live Aid (it was at the old Wembley stadium in London). Would be great if you did 'One Vision' sometime. I remember taping it off the charts on the radio (pause, play, rec 🤣) and would listen to it on my Walkman on the way to school back in the day. The last line will always amuse me 😂
Just really look at the crowd This was one of their greatest performances and he is known for not having a microphone stand as you see Great reaction Thank you ❤️
This was one of Queen's BEST performances ever (if not THE best). People have been talking about it for 30 years... It was also one of (if not THE) last live performances... Freddie put his all into it because it was sort of his goodbye to his fans. The stadium is Wembly Stadium in England. And this was a part of Live Aid - which is where a bunch of different groups/artists performed as a fundraiser for world hunger - specifically in Africa. It was televised globally and people could call in and pledge donations. I believe all of the actual concerts were completely sold out.
Got to give so much respect to Freddie. Just sat down casually flexed fixing his own mixtures and went straight into the performance without any whining to the roadies or stage management. Just nope not quite, ok that's good.
Such a showman with one of the best voices we will ever know. I agree with you about Radio; to me Radio and We are the Champions we’re the two best songs from this performance but the entire set was just iconic.
Brian May deserves his own recognition as an amazing guitarist. Also, the way Freddie interacts with the audience on the "Ayo" I always found to be amazing.
Live Aid was a fund raiser for famine in Ethiopia and Sudan. This was at Wembley in London. Also a live audience in Philadelphia and a couple of billion on TV.
Back when bands were really bands with real lyrics & real self made music, I was lucky enough 2 watch this around the globe at age 17, was just amazing ❤
WTH??? I assumed you already did Queen's Live Aid performance!! Sorry, my bad.... I'll be sure to search your reactions in the future! YESSSS!! Keep going with Queen..... "Fat Bottomed Girls" (if you haven't already) .... be back to suggest others after I've checked your Queen reactions!! Gonna watch now!! Thanks for this one!! ;) EDIT: Freddie blew that kiss to his Mother!! what a sweetheart!!
Wembley Stadium held about 70,000 people. The group is Brian May guitarist, Roger Taylor drummer and John Deacon bass with Freddie Bulsara, lead singer. On the day of Live Aid,, I had 6 friends crammed into my bachelor apt. to watch Live Aid. I had just bought my first decent sized colour tv. Queen blew us away that day, they were amazing.
Freddie is a legend! He is the best there ever was when it came to performing. He loved what he did and strived to make it better for us. Queen was still is and will always be one of the greatest bands that ever existed. When we lost Freddie we lost an icon.
I watched this on tv in ‘85. Freddie Mercury owned the whole show. At first nobody wanted to air Bohemian Rhapsody because it was nearly 6 minutes and it are into the radio stations commercial air time. Watch the movie it’s kinda close. $20 and every group there was a headliner group. It was sad we lost such a talented person. Our school band used to play “We Will Rock You” “Another One Bites The Dust” and “We Are The Champions” our school’s wrestling team is in the wrestling hall of fame
Freddie had a throat infection he went against Dr's orders to be there he said his throat felt like he was gargling with crushed glass while singing and he still crushed it they are epic
Do his song The Show Must Go On; knowing he was terminally ill. It is amazing....he was so sick he couldn't stand so he took a shot of vodka and leaned up against something and I believe it to be his best performance EVER!
Damn Freddy is so missed. Freddy and Dr. Brian May (fantastic guitar player) make a beautiful pairing, then add in machine drummer Roger Taylor and John Deacon rounds out the sound with the Bass. I am glad they are touring again with Adam Lambert but there will never be another Freddy and everyone knows that, so I give Adam his dues with impossible shoes to fill. Love your channel by the way, and I don't think you can go wrong with any Queen song. To be there in person in front of Freddy, when he's singing right at you...wow an unexplainable feeling, honestly. Freddy was a priceless gift! 🤘
Master class crowd control. This is a clinic on frontman greatness on a level reached by maybe a hand full of people ever. Freddie was remarkable. There's a great story oit there about Freddie imposing his will on sid vicious from the sexpistols. Owned him verbally and physically removed him from thr room. Freddie> punk rock
This was at Wembley Stadium in London, which had a capacity of 72,000 at the time. It was completely sold out. The other main Live Aid concert was at RFK stadium in Philadelphia, and 100,000 were there for that
Van I am with you on the piano thing. We grew up with a piano in the house yet none of us took lessons. I can't count how many times I've wanted to play the piano!! My mother played rarely but only hymns that I loved.
This was Live Aid. There were simultaneous shows in the UK and the States... and broadcast live on what would eventually become pay per view... when a band played in one country it was shown live at the stadium of the other... like a world wide festival. Millions upon MILLIONS witnessed this live.
This performance was in Wembley Stadium in London in 1985... it had about 72,000 fans at the Live Aid show. A year later in 1986, Queen HEADLINED 2 nights at Wembley Stadium w/ 72K fans per night! 😲
All you need to see, when asking who may be the greatest rock band of all time, is how Freddie has the crowd in the palm of his hand. The mass of people acting as one. I get choked up every time I watch this. Radio Ga Ga, the call & response on "Day-O". NOBODY owned a crowd like him.
In my eyes, Freddie Mercury is the best singer and performer in rock n roll history
Agreed 👑
Agree!
not just a singer bro, he was way more talented he played guitar, wrote songs, beats, played Piano and bass , he did it fucking all xD
I'd agree but add music history
is the best singer... stop.
A microphone in one hand..the crowd in the other hand...absolute legend 👍
Brian may also plays in blue n black with five finger death punch. Looks the same but gray hair and still rocks
Freddie Mercury wasn't just a singer or a performer, he was a SHOWMAN in every sense of the word.

The last line will always amuse me 😂
Just really look at the crowd This was one of their greatest performances and he is known for not having a microphone stand as you see Great reaction Thank you ❤️
LEGEND!!!!!!
Great reaction to one of the most astonishing moments in popular music history
He also had a sore throat, but he Went on anyway. WHAT A PERFORMER!
Actually, Queen did an extensive tour -- The Magic Tour -- the following year.
Got to give so much respect to Freddie. Just sat down casually flexed fixing his own mixtures and went straight into the performance without any whining to the roadies or stage management. Just nope not quite, ok that's good.
He was the greatest showman ever ❤
Such a showman with one of the best voices we will ever know. I agree with you about Radio; to me Radio and We are the Champions we’re the two best songs from this performance but the entire set was just iconic.
Brian May on lead guitar, Roger Taylor on drums & John Deacon on bass. Thank you for all your reactions. Love your channel.
I remember i bought Live Aid DVD set when it was released in 2005 just to watch this performance.
Back when bands were really bands with real lyrics & real self made music, I was lucky enough 2 watch this around the globe at age 17, was just amazing ❤
Walked in my dads yesterday and he was watching this 🔥🤘❤️
He blew a kiss to his Mom 💛 but still smooth as hell.
Thanks for this one!! ;)
EDIT: Freddie blew that kiss to his Mother!! what a sweetheart!!
YAY!!! I've been waiting for you to dothis, absolutely the best and Freddie is so great at engaging the crowd
Freddie is a legend! He is the best there ever was when it came to performing. He loved what he did and strived to make it better for us. Queen was still is and will always be one of the greatest bands that ever existed. When we lost Freddie we lost an icon.
I love the smile you get while listening. It's exactly how hearing him sing makes me feel.
The way you look at the screen, nothing but love
I love waking up to reactions. Your smile is everything & I love how you truly enjoy the music. 🧡
You sing it!!!!! 🤣❤️..... so awesome 👍!
His crowd control makes me teary eyed every damn time!
Do his song The Show Must Go On; knowing he was terminally ill. It is amazing....he was so sick he couldn't stand so he took a shot of vodka and leaned up against something and I believe it to be his best performance EVER!
Wembley stadium but it was live aid and air on tv all over the world as it was happening it was historical moment
It's worth watching the movie and how perfect to detail they reenacted the live aid concert. Even down to the drinks on the piano.
Damn Freddy is so missed. Freddy and Dr. Brian May (fantastic guitar player) make a beautiful pairing, then add in machine drummer Roger
Taylor and John Deacon rounds out the sound with the Bass. I am glad they are touring again with Adam Lambert but there will never
be another Freddy and everyone knows that, so I give Adam his dues with impossible shoes to fill. Love your channel by the way, and I don't
think you can go wrong with any Queen song. To be there in person in front of Freddy, when he's singing right at you...wow an unexplainable
feeling, honestly.
The kiss he blew was a message to his Mother watching him on tv at home🥰
This performance was in Wembley Stadium in London in 1985... it had about 72,000 fans at the Live Aid show. A year later in 1986, Queen HEADLINED 2 nights at Wembley Stadium w/ 72K fans per night! 😲
Epic performance!!!
All you need to see, when asking who may be the greatest rock band of all time, is how Freddie has the crowd in the palm of his hand. The mass of people acting as one. I get choked up every time I watch this. Radio Ga Ga, the call & response on "Day-O". NOBODY owned a crowd like him.
did you notice that the WHOLE stadium went silent RIGHT AFTER he sat down at the piano? they KNEW they were going to get a REAL performance!
Drummer Roger Taylor.....Lead Guitarist Brian May ....John Deacon Bass Guitar & ofcourse the Legend Freddie Mercury Vocals & piano
There is a simple reason why people call him the "greatest front man of any band in music history". That simple reason is, he was.
