Bought this for my 160 litre tank 7 weeks ago. I have a large terrapin which makes a lot of mess. It is fantastic, water crystal clear, haven't cleaned it yet. Previous internal filter needed cleaning once a week and water was never this clean. Recommend it, excellent filtration.
I did the same for 25 litre tank for my 2 big red eared sliders. Only I bought HW302 model and I'm amazed by the crystal clean water and the quiet work. I recommend using of canisters for water turtles of any kind.
I have the sunsun hw 3000 absolutely love this filter!! Pumps 739 GPH I have a yellow belly slider turtle in a 75 gal. tank and trust me they are dirty creatures. I only have to change/clean my filter every 6 months and I do replace the filters but not the media. Filters are clean on the bottom and as in your video the 2nd set were dirty and replaced. I highly recommend this filter. Cleaning the hoses, well if they r really dirty your better off replacing them :)
Sunsun and all ponds solutions same company just marketed under diffrent name clean mine yearly but that's first time seen some one clean that way mite give a go great video good to watch.
oh i like it a lot, not only because it keeps my water looking good, but because it has so much space for media that will help keep my parameters in check :)
This was a heck of a help because I tried to clean it out warrants and it flooded out my whole almost model of my living room and then so that happened and then after watching this video I know a lot now now I won't have to spend like a lot of days only like spend like 20 minutes cleaning out the living room floor
yes please do video on cleaning the hoses.its same filter that im using but in england there called all pond solution not sunsun.excellent video has always.
If you're not cleaning the tubes, you can leave the water in the tubes while you clean the canister. This way, you can fill the canister with tank water and you won't even need to prime it for it to begin because water is already in the canister and the tubing.
Thank you for this viedo. I just bought my sun sun and had to watch a lot on how to put it together and what to put into it. The Manuel that comes with it does not help at all. I set one up for my 55 gallon goldfish tank and now was the time to clean it it's been running for almost a month and ugg it was dirty!
Nice :), might be my next buy. I would love to see a video on how to clean the hoses. I have no idea how to do it, and they have collected some muck. I tried something and I almost destroyed it. Thank you in advance :)
This is the link for the filter pads for the 304b. Just arrived today and they are the correct size! 😀 thanks so much for posting this video. Hi. I know this is quite old but I want to ask something. How do u remove the hose plug? Do you just open it or what? Because I did open mine and the water is flowing like hell. Thank you
I know it’s not funny cuz I flooded our bedroom but this video showed me what I did wrong. When I wanted to clean the filter I unplugged it then opened the top! Ahhhhh! After this video I see that it was so simple. All I had to do after unplugging the filter was to lift the handle (or bar) located between the two hoses on top of the skimmer. Sigh of relief! That was simple! Hope you figure out your problem too. Good luck!
I think that the inflow goes from the top to the bottom through the filters and sucked up to the output, evidently on 2:05 the top sponge media is way dirtier than lower media, so you should put your sponges and mechanical filer at the top and the bio media at the bottom. You were quite surprised why the bottom sponge is way cleaner its because these sponges should be at the top the water comes in at the top first.
The water flow goes in down the side of the canister and up through the media. So the sponges on the bottom are course sponges to collect the bigger particles of dirt and typically won't get as dirty because they can only catch the large particles. The fine sponges which were the dirtiest are the ones that collect the most fine particles before it finally goes over the bio media. It you check out water flow diagrams for this filter it may help.
I've been stymied by the UV light in mine. an "on-off" rocker switch appears through the bubble on top, but I cannot access it; that cap is on solid! Is it supposed to be that way? I'd read that it's a good idea to turn it off regularly, however I really can't even tell if it's on! Thanks .... and great video; very concise.
Lifewithpets Yeah I have been wondering myself if that biohome media does the same as much cheaper media. Beginning to think its only popular because of the hype the pondguru created. They say it will last anywhere between 5-10 years before you would need to change it but I still think it is way overpriced
I thought u supposed to cut hoses to fit height of ur tank to not lose any water flow speed but I guess it's fine if it's doesn't do even half of speed it should....
There is no need to cleans these filters once a month or so. I have gone 18 months on mine ( 704b on a 55 gal. tank ) and believe it or not it was not that dirty. The water in tank was still crystal clear.
Your video has helped me to realise not to buy this product. I'm already suffering from water by pass issue Penn plax cascade 1200, where the gap between trays & canister body is way too much. Here in your case too there is lot of water by pass as the bottom tray is clean where ideally the heavy muck has to hit, in the second tray the junk is collected on the opposite side, which means dirt came from up rather from bottom, which also means principally the dirty water is not moving the mentioned directions, that is the problem with such layered design. I have decided to go with eheim classic 600 - where exactly same principle works - water came directly to bottom, hot first the bio media & flow got divided, then it started flowing up hitting the coarse sponge followed by the medium & the fine one, finally the dirt is suppressed & clean water hits the bio mediums & finally impeller sucks it & throw the clean water to the tank. This way 600 does a miraculous job with a much higher filtering efficiency as a result the filter also clogged up quickly. Pls post another video of filter cleaning

She who takes advice from pondguru is a well informed person 💯
I actually cleaned out my filter 2 weeks ago and added in a bunch of pebble I had laying around filter is a lot more efficient now

Trying to find video for cleaning hoses. I’ll keep looking though! Your videos are so informative. Thank you
Great video I would like to see you clean the hoses
Ok, thank you!
Lifewithpets great vid as always
I have a question I never wash my lava rocks in the tank is that ok?????
If they're in the tank and not a filter then no you don't need to wash them.
Lifewithpets no they are In the filter
Marat Issa I've never used lava rock but I'd imagine like with any bio media it should be rinsed like we did with our bio rocks.
I was doing research about SUN SUN filters and watched all your videos about them. Thank you for the well put and informative videos.
Thank you!
Sunsun and all ponds solutions same company just marketed under diffrent name clean mine yearly but that's first time seen some one clean that way mite give a go great video good to watch.
@Lifewithpets you need to use thicker coarse and medium sponges for your polishing pad to be cleaner.
Does the media in bottom of bucket, does it make noise while pump is running? Thank you and I love your video such Good knowledge you provided.
Thank you so much for making this video
Had same issue. Heard though from some TH-camr that their quality went up a bit and happens way less now.
yeah yeah a video on cleaning the hoses please
Awesome video, i just recently did the first cleaning of my 304B as well.
Thanks. How are you liking your filter?
oh i like it a lot, not only because it keeps my water looking good, but because it has so much space for media that will help keep my parameters in check :)

Thank you. Ok, will do!
Great video! Really helpful👍
Thank you! It's a great filter.
great video! be careful with the trays my handles broke so now it's very difficult to take apart.
Thanks for the warning!
Hoses, yes please. What media is in the canister?
Please show us how to clean the hoses!

She drained the tubes as so to clean the media with the aquarium water.

Yes, we do ours every 4-6 weeks and wow it’s dirty, but it does a good job!
very good
You could definitely shorten the tubes for better flow.
Great job! Great video 😊
Thanks!
Lifewithpets pu
Nice :), might be my next buy. I would love to see a video on how to clean the hoses. I have no idea how to do it, and they have collected some muck. I tried something and I almost destroyed it. Thank you in advance :)
Thank you. We will be doing the video in the next few weeks!
Excellent job 🤗
i would love to see how to clean hoses
nice job you guys!
Thanks Deon!
I’d like to see the hose cleaning please
Did you do a video of how to clean the green hoses? I can't seem to find it. Thanks!
We didn't end up doing one. To clean the hoses we got a long stick and put sponge on it. We pushed it though the pipes and it cleaned them very well.
Do I turn it off first I’m confused how do you make sure water doesn’t come out
Hi. Great video. Just want to point out the link you shared for the foam filters is for the 302b.
This is the link for the filter pads for the 304b. Just arrived today and they are the correct size! 😀 thanks so much for posting this video. Helped me arrange the filter trays with media.

Ceramic rings on bottom are key

Thanks, No the cap. should just twist off.
Yes plz
My new Sunsun 704b power button dont seem to b working. I have to unplug it.is there a trick?
Do you use stability when starting s new tank set up or after tank cleaning? Thank you
When starting a new tank set up but not after cleaning the tank. once your tank is fully cycled it is not needed.
good job👍👍
How to open without water gushing everywhere???
Where do i find video on hoses...
Would you still recommend this filter ?
Absolutely, we still use it.
I have a HW-302 which is a AQ-302A I discovered... Do I need to clean the hoses out before I use it on a salt tank?
I would completely sterilize it before using it on another tank,
👍
Could you use Poly-Fill in place of fine sponges??
Yes, many people do.
Hi , can I run canister filter 24/7 all time . Would it effect filter ?
No they’re made to run non stop. Ours has been running for over two years.
Lifewithpets thank you mam
Is this the 2000lph filter? How come you dont use the biohome ultra media?
It's the 525gph. We choice the bio media because it was a lot cheaper than the biohome but does the same job.
Lifewithpets Yeah I have been wondering myself if that biohome media does the same as much cheaper media. Beginning to think its only popular because of the hype the pondguru created. They say it will last anywhere between 5-10 years before you would need to change it but I still think it is way overpriced
Is this canister filter for the 20 gallon aquarium???
No, our Goldfish tank.
I thought u supposed to cut hoses to fit height of ur tank to not lose any water flow speed but I guess it's fine if it's doesn't do even half of speed it should....
RinaDasler I never cut my hoses and in still getting good flow of water. But I don't use the spray bar I just have an open pipe for more water flow
Can you use this same setup for the HW 302 Sun Sun?
I think so but I'm not familiar with it and if it is fully the same.
How would I sterilize it? Can I use water and peroxide?
Um........no
There is no need to cleans these filters once a month or so. I have gone 18 months on mine ( 704b on a 55 gal. tank ) and believe it or not it was not that dirty. The water in tank was still crystal clear.
is this model too strong for a 50gallon or should i get the HW303B?
It depends what fish are going in it. We have it on our 55 gallon with goldfish in and it's just fine.
Lifewithpets yes I'm going to have goldfish in it too. Thanks
