Super late, but as someone that works for a famous cheese shop we teach that 3 kinda go to pairings are similar taste, contrasting taste, and regionality like from the same place. I've found those work well for whiskey too.
It’s no longer a shirt.....it’s a fungal mass......he’s become the host organism. The fungus shirt will get bigger and Rex will get smaller as the fungus grows.....I read about this in National Expirerer
All right, who has Eric's TH-cam credentials and why are you typing things which are much more ingenious than anything he's ever even dreamed. Tell us. Tell us now.
Had a thought as I was sipping BRUICHLADDICH The Classic Laddie last night, poured it and then got interrupted and it sat there for 20-30 minutes before i started drinking it. I have tried to take my time enjoying the whiskey as of late to let it open up, but this brings me to the thought-- Is the nose and flavor that you get when you first pour is what the distillers target was or when it opens up after sitting. Thanks to you guys drinking Whiskey is not only the Nose, Taste but also very Cerebral experience which digs deep in the History and the understanding of who all these different items work together. Again thanks to all you Magnificent Bastards
Guys, you should definitely try the Hibiki 17. It was recently discontinued and it would be interesting to see what you think about it. Would be a good comparison between it and the regular harmony.
For online ordering it’s easy my wife got me a bottle of Hibiki for Fathers Day. Just needed someone who was 21 it accept it when it shows up. Couldn’t find it around here and only paid $3.00 more to have it shipped to me. Happy Hibiki to me. Keep up the fantastic work boys Cheers.
Slightly weird sounding pairing, but I had Deanston with some burnt ends recently and it was great! The Deanston is pretty and floral, but the burnt ends push that even further into almost a lemonade note, and it stood up to the smoky, fatty, rich meat.
The fact they already seem super buzzed before popping open a $750 bottle pisses me off so much. If I sent this bottle and saw them acting like idiots and nearly knocking this over I'd go nuclear.
Just found a bottle on the shelf in the SF Bay Area - $500 before tax (I think 12% for liquor + sales tax). I can’t bring myself to do it but it’s tempting.
the "weird note" for me that I find in the 23 is just a bit of bubble gum. like the powdery, crappy stuff, like "bubble tape" style, just hiding under the chocolate. Now that I've heard you say "ginger snaps" though, I definitely get that too, and just couldn't place it until hearing the words. It's soooooo damn good.
Yes, I do chew slow. But, I’m a member of “Slow Chew fur You”.........its a group of dedicated gum lovers who are trying to get Americans to slow down on their gum chewing and enjoy their gum more. They are big advocates of supporting craft gum producers too....they are trying to get old gum recipes and flavors back into the marketplace.
Cool review for the 23, but that's wildly inaccessible for most of us. That's like a $600 bottle guys. Not trying to be a jerk about it, I just don't want you guys turning into a review channel like whisky.com where they review $2000 bottles and you're just sitting there like.... okay.... That's why we loved the rexweek episodes. So awesome.
Rex begins to read comments "From James Lipps..." I think to myself that's interesting because I have a cousin with the same first and last name as myself. Then Rex reads my question left in an earlier video. I think I may have dislocated my jaw when it collapsed into my lap. Definitely sending a donation so that I too can hear myself called a Magnificent Bastard.
Hey guys! I love what you're doing with Whiskey Vault and Whiskey Tribe! These have both gotten me more into whiskey and thinking more about what I drink when it come to tequila (my go to drink). But at this exact moment I'm wondering what your thoughts are on Jack Daniels Sinatra Select. I am a huge Sinatra fan of 24, and have a bottle starring me in the face but am waiting for the right moment to open it. Insight on what to expect from this bottle please?
hey guys, i am fairly new to whiskey and i am enjoying these videos a lot, so much to learn; so i have a question, i am trying to learn how to detect the components of the whiskey from taste and smell but i seem to be on a different planet. is this something you learn from practice , should i start by learning the components of a certain whiskey then try to compare when i taste another? how does someone become good at tasting. thanks
Yeah, i buy all my whisk(e)y online (Italy) because it's really the only option. Can only find classic Jameson's and some dodgy whiskeys in most supermarkets around me.
Great episode guy. Daniel, I have noticed something I wanted to bring up. You have an interesting pronunciation of words that end in "ing"... sounds a little like "ink". :)
Hey guys love the channel! You two helped inspire me to shift my career focus from winemaking to distillation and I cannot thank you enough. I work at a distillery now and I could not be happier. My question is this, would you two be interested in reviewing a brandy or cognac? I'd happily purchase one for review via Total Wine online. Keep up the great work. Slainté
You were talking about Liquor Laws amongst states? Texas is so Bi Polar, I can walk 6th st with a drink. 45 minutes north and I can't buy alcohol in an entire county. Not to mention club cards and other quirky laws.
Pretty please do a comparison of Finlaggan Old Reserve against Lagavulin 16. Im a noob but im not sure i could tell the diff side by side and its 1/4 of the cost. Cheers.
Finlaggen! Lol! I have a bottle of that.....straight up phenolic every second.....smoke smoke smoke smoke smoke smoke smoke smoke.....did I mention smoke? Lol!
Jason, Sir, I was there with you a year ago. Finlaggan isn’t a bad whisky, but its a one trick pony in my opinion. You know what I’m talking about. I have a bottle of Finlaggan and will buy another bottle some day when my current one is empty. If you like it a lot that’s fine, but if you want something more interesting there are a few options. Bowmore is lowest priced Islay ($35) but many don’t respect Bowmore. You’ve probably been drinking Caol Ila or Bowmore if you’ve been drinking the Trader Joe’s Finlaggan. Laphoraig is the best compromise between price and quality ($5?). It’s the best bet actually. I love Bunnahabhain ($60) and if I can get it on sale ($45?) its close to the Laphroaig regular price. Kilchoman Machir Bay is nice ($50?). Lagavulin 8 is the next level up in my opinion from the Laphroaig ($60?). Laphroaig quarter cask or their 10 YO might be the ticket for you. Sip your whiskey and shepherd it like the rare treat it is. If you want to guzzle whiskey, go deluxe cheap blends like Buchanan’s or Cutty or whatever and forget about complexity. I am a sipper and my whiskies last a long time. I drink Cutty Sark a lot during the week because its good, old fashioned whisky that satisfies my when I want s shot before bed. I think a lot of people have everyday whiskies and then weekend whiskies and then extra special whiskies they only touch on special occasions. By the way, Caol Ila is a great whisky but its about twice the price of Laphroaig. I forgot to mention Ardbeg 10...its about $55 and it is another great cost/taste whisky...I can’t recommend it enough. There
Eric Schwab great googly moogly you just made my freekin day! Thank you for all that! Im gonna write all that down and keep an eye out for sales. I impulse bought the finlaggan because its the first ive seen a islay under $50 ... i suppose one benefit to being new is that i havnt gotten bored with less complex whiskeys ... yet. I had lagavulin 16 at a bar and fell in looove .. which is what started me down this road ... to my surprise i cant get enough smoke... i honeslty expected to hate it. But sincerely, i thank you for the advice ... this is going to be fun :)
Hi Guys, I enjoy your vidoes alot. I learn ed alot since i started watcjing your channel. I got started with glenfiddich. And recently i bought glenfiddich cask select 1L blue - duty free version.. was wondering if your guys have it/or something similar to it. And if you can review it so i can test my pallet
Hello gentlemen, I am fairly new to the channel, and getting into whiskey. I was wondering if you could do a video on an old, or rare bourbon. I find it very easy to pick out a scotch for “ special occasions” using age statements and such, but I find it harder to find a special occasion bourbon. Any recommendations? Thanks
Single malt every time for me ! Depends on what you like about your drink - Smoke, Sherry, Fruity, Floral, Coastal etc etc. You can get scotch that's been matured in ex-bourbon casks only. I started with a Highland Park 12 :)
23 yo Ardbeg! Goddamn! Do you think peated age statement scotch (not the standard versions like 10yo ardbeg and laphroaig) is overpriced compared to their un-peated counterparts?
Hey, have you guys ever tried Belgian Whisky? Belgian Owl is a belgian whisky that's declared best in europe in 2015 by Jim Murray I'm a whisky lover from Belgium and if you guys wanted, I could ship you guys a bottle.
does it matter what im eating before drinking a whisky? i noticed that if i eat a steak before drinking whisky the smoke notes are more intense, but "hot" whiskys arent that "hot" anymore.
This has probably already been asked... Disclaimer - I don't read comments often (and you guys have a s%$t ton of videos with a f&*k load of comments) What is you all time favorite whiskey? (Daniel and Rex) The one you always keep on stock at home and drink when your bored with nothing better to do. Not the whiskey you bring ot when people are over. But the one you keep for yourself either because it's a cheap bottom shelf or because it cost your first born to buy.
Brian Salter there answer to this a couple weeks ago is that its always changing and they don't really have an all time favorite. Rex said he had a favorite Irish (redbreast 12 obviously) but they keep it moving.
The whisk(e)y I would be holding at the particularly moment you asked this question would suffice. Keep asking the question and I’ll keep drinking. Lol!
Love you guys!!! 4:52 Rex: like a SWEET red apple / Daniel: seems like green SOUR apples / Rex: Yeah like a green SOUR apple PS: Its not shitting about your content! I love u guys
Dude I shouldn’t have watched this episode. So I’m an autoworker (22 years now). I’m working across from this guy named Arky and he was giving sass to an old gal they called Babydoll. Babydoll always wore a moomoo. Babydoll was a bigger gal. And Arky was a little man. Well Babydoll could take it anymore and I saw her pull up her dress and put it over Arky’s head and most of his body vanished and she shook him around inside that dress. I could stop laughing. His legs were kicking and he could get out of there fast enough!😂
I almost spat out my drink while watching this episode due to TH-cams automatic subtitles. What Rex says is: ”I’m getting like this you know dominant smokey peatiness” but what the subtitles put forward is ”dominant smokey penis” XD Everybody has their fetishes, and I think TH-cam just revealed Rex’s.
Just got a pop up on the top of the video. " Isla single malts". I know you're trying to educate people on how to pronounce Islay, but you should spell it right.
I need to upgrade my earnings to try some of this magnificence.
Thats nearly $700 donation!!! WOOOOOOW
Super late, but as someone that works for a famous cheese shop we teach that 3 kinda go to pairings are similar taste, contrasting taste, and regionality like from the same place. I've found those work well for whiskey too.
In Canada we can buy it online and have it arrive either at our house, in three days, or at your preferred liquor store.
for the love of God Rex.... change your shirt... we are going to start a clothing drive for you soon.
It’s no longer a shirt.....it’s a fungal mass......he’s become the host organism. The fungus shirt will get bigger and Rex will get smaller as the fungus grows.....I read about this in National Expirerer
lol.... nice!
All right, who has Eric's TH-cam credentials and why are you typing things which are much more ingenious than anything he's ever even dreamed.
Tell us. Tell us now.
ARDBEG THIRST!
Lol! Yeah a $600 thirst!
Too bad this isn’t in my price range!
Well, I could buy a bottle but the price paid would bother me for a long time. I’d rather donate that $$ to help homeless pregnant armadillos
Christina Zirpoli glad to see you back on your game!
You seem to have really upped your eccentric game Mr. Schwab. Kudos.
Had a thought as I was sipping BRUICHLADDICH The Classic Laddie last night, poured it and then got interrupted and it sat there for 20-30 minutes before i started drinking it. 100% agree Daniel sir. Love 4 roses with Brisket
Ardbeg Twenty Something - 23yr
Seattle, WA
Price - $759.99
Liquor tax - $151.99
Liter tax - $2.83
Total - $914.80
(at total wine)
You overpaid! 😆
Just found a bottle on the shelf in the SF Bay Area - $500 before tax (I think 12% for liquor + sales tax). I can’t bring myself to do it but it’s tempting.
Just put an order in for two bottles at 489,99€ / bottle incl. Alchol tax + VAT. Sometimes you just gotta love goverment alcohol monopoly.
Mt Juliet Tennessee is doing clearance of this for $199.
the "weird note" for me that I find in the 23 is just a bit of bubble gum. like the powdery, crappy stuff, like "bubble tape" style, just hiding under the chocolate. Like “Bazooka” pink bubble gum where the flavor lasts a whole 17 seconds
Eric Schwab yes exactly
@Eric Schwab whaddya chew once every 2 seconds? It usually only lasts me about 5 seconds
Yes, I do chew slow. But, I’m a member of “Slow Chew fur You”.........its a group of dedicated gum lovers who are trying to get Americans to slow down on their gum chewing and enjoy their gum more. Yup, you are off the rails Mr. Schwab. But in the best possible way.
Is it bad that since I’ve stumbled across your channel that I’ve been binge watching y’all like crazy the past half week...?
Cool review for the 23, but that's wildly inaccessible for most of us. That's like a $600 bottle guys. 10 of 10 som recommendation with the bourbon with bbq daniel
Another great video!Glenfinnich 21 rum cask
This whisky is god damn magical
When is the Ardbeg Grooves review due? :O
^this!!

you guys definitely treat the good stuff with more gusto than the cheap seats. authentic tastes. who is sourcing from macallan?
Hey Daniel are you planning on doing the Master of Malt advent calendar.
I'm planning on purchasing one to drink along.
hey guys, i am fairly new to whiskey and i am enjoying these videos a lot, so much to learn; so i have a question, i am trying to learn how to detect the components of the whiskey from taste and smell but i seem to be on a different planet. is this something you learn from practice , should i start by learning the components of a certain whiskey then try to compare when i taste another? how does someone become good at tasting. thanks
Rex - Nice Dylan Thomas reference!
So there definitely needs to be a new fancy whisky in the vault. I personally think you should get something new. Macallan M Black perhaps?
Yeah, i buy all my whisk(e)y online (Italy) because it's really the only option. Can only find classic Jameson's and some dodgy whiskeys in most supermarkets around me.
Great episode guy. Daniel, I have noticed something I wanted to bring up. You have an interesting pronunciation of words that end in "ing"... sounds a little like "ink". :)
No Online booze? Just got makers, woodford and dalwhinnie of Amazon in Germany.
Daniel, next Irish whisky review you should bring up the Chamber Street fire of 1875.
Waiting on your Grooves review ;)
“I love out of context comments” haha I was dying
Hey guys love the channel! You two helped inspire me to shift my career focus from winemaking to distillation and I cannot thank you enough. I work at a distillery now and I could not be happier.

Really excellent reviews guys! Rex keeping Daniel on the straight. Nearly fell over at the Top Deck wedgy... #topdeckwedgy
You were talking about Liquor Laws amongst states? Texas is so Bi Polar, I can walk 6th st with a drink. 45 minutes north and I can't buy alcohol in an entire county. Not to mention club cards and other quirky laws.
You can do anything you want until you can’t. Live on the edge!
looks like the comments are printed on some thick fancy paper, that patreon money is real

The K sound at the end of words ending with a G came back hard in this video.
I think he may be down a chromosome.
I would loooooove to get my hands on a bottle of that! Keep up the good work boys.
I’ve gently stroked a bottle of it on the liquor store shelf once. I was asked to leave. Lol!
What kind of fascist doesn't encourage such love for a smokey bottle of scotch?
Hi Guys, I enjoy your vidoes alot. I learn ed alot since i started watcjing your channel. I got started with glenfiddich. P.s. I know that taste is extremely subjective, I was just looking for a direction to try
Been a bourbon drinker for years. Would like to find my way to scotch. What do you recommend? Blended or single malt.
Single malt every time for me !
Depends on what you like about your drink - Smoke, Sherry, Fruity, Floral, Coastal etc etc.

Belgian Owl is a belgian whisky that's declared best in europe in 2015 by Jim Murray
I'm a whisky lover from Belgium and if you guys wanted, I could ship you guys a bottle.
It might never get to them. Whiskey shipping is tricky for a variety of reasons.
The sending (my side) is not a problem. If there is any problem, it's their side due to regulation in the USA.
does it matter what im eating before drinking a whisky?
i noticed that if i eat a steak before drinking whisky the smoke notes are more intense, but "hot" whiskys arent that "hot" anymore.
I’ve stopped eating. It doesn’t disrupt my tasting now and I have more money for whiskies.
4:29 can't tell if daniel said funky fucking... anyways my life is complete I got a comment in the video thanks for the response guys.
Did someone forget to remove the certificate paper before printing?
I need more Ardbeg in my diet!
Sir, it’s a cult.....you know this!
"1792!!" The broken bottle lament ceremony
Ultimate levels of nice
This is my dream whisky. love ardbeg so much! also, i see that hedonism in the background. please review!
Report to Christina Zirpoli.....she’s head of the Ardbeg Cult here in the WT.
Oh my the Twenty Something 🤤
Damnit now I need to go buy some more Ardbeg
The list keeps growing but, I'm not complaining haha!
This is a dark road.. I stress caution... As someone who now owns 16 different offerings from Ardbeg....
Your Ardbeg collection and mine could fill a small bus....lol!
10 bottles
This has probably already been asked...

Dipstick likes Longmorn 16 but he's not too sharp.
Hingadingadurgan, it must be Leif Eriksson day!
Love you guys!!! 4:52 Rex: like a SWEET red apple / Daniel: seems like green SOUR apples / Rex: Yeah like a green SOUR apple

Seventeen nightytwoooooo.....
Holy sh*t they got a show done and only drank one whiskey. Hell has frozen over.
Dude I shouldn’t have watched this episode. So I’m an autoworker (22 years now). I’m working across from this guy named Arky and he was giving sass to an old gal they called Babydoll. It was amazing and some of us still talk about it.
If you had to pick one whiskey, and only drink that one for the rest of your life, what would you chose?
Lagavulin 16 or Ardbeg Grooves
Ginker bread?
I almost spat out my drink while watching this episode due to TH-cams automatic subtitles. What Rex says is: ”I’m getting like this you know dominant smokey peatiness” but what the subtitles put forward is ”dominant smokey penis” XD
Everybody has their fetishes, and I think TH-cam just revealed Rex’s.
if you could only buy one 200 dollar bottle of scotch, what would it be?
Mickey Finn Apple 300 years old
erlend myhre LOL. I was looking for serious answers but I guess it $10 bottle of whiskey will do
Oh god...😂
GINGERBREAD
Ring a ding ding muthaf#cka! Best intro so far!
People are just sending you $700 bottles? This distillery must be paying for itself by now!
I was talking Australian $
still wish REX was my older brother
Your suffering at his hands would have been unendurable.....
eeesh. That is some sad, sad stuff.
Eh yo Fuck u niggah
Whoa, easy big fella. Let's not get all crazy with the weird spelling, profanity, and racism. Try just one first. Get used to it and then try another.
Just got a pop up on the top of the video. " Isla single malts". I know you're trying to educate people on how to pronounce Islay, but you should spell it right.
Did Rex fart out a dolphin??
No, it just looks that way....the dolphin busted out. Rex was trying to hold it in! Big difference....lol!
Yes, Rex is famous for holding things in.
🙄
First
