I think I might have an explanation for the shopping carts. It's a flash browser game, which means an N64 style 3d polygon game will be more taxing. If everyone in your Mario kart fan racing game is going to use a single generic cart to save on assets, are you going for a normal looking boring cart with a high poly count, or do you use the model that has transparency and is basically a box? I'm guessing the joke was a happy accident trying to solve a real problem.

The sonic rush adventure flash game was an official demo sega used on the rush website. It wasn't emulation. By the way. The sonic RPG games are some of the best sonic flash games online.
