I don't shop at airports, but I did come within seconds of missing a tight transfer because I was forced through a massive duty free with a path that put Ikea to shame.. Really loved that
It’s really not that hard to avoid shopping at airports. You just need to pack the consumer state of mind. The only thing I ever get is the free water at Starbucks. Airports likewise malls are basically an opportunity to get pimped buying lackluster products at inflated prices. You don’t really need that $12 burger before your flight. You would do your gut a favor as well as your wallet.
I don't recall having made any big purchases at airports, but I suppose a fairly big part of that is that I was younger then and didn't have the kind of money they were asking for anyway. Besides, whiskey, beauty stuff and jewelry don't do it for me. Technology is more interesting, but I prefer to research before buying.
Something I have noticed for uk airports is most of the time the gate number isn’t announced till it is time to start walking to the gate so when you are waiting you end up sitting in the seats next to the open stores.
In 2019, I spent more time in airports than in retail clothing stores. So it makes sense. People buy stuff online but they have to go to a physical airport to get to their final destination.

I've always associate an airport as a place where it is a hassle, TSAs basically violating your human privacy rights, and where everything is priced at 300% despite it being 'duty free'. I've learn to shut down and just go through the minimum necessary to get on my plane.
We always get to the airport early because It seems more efficient to get through TSA lines, eat, and peruse comfortable rather than stressing about missing your flight.
My parents would usually get gifts from airports, more specifically perfumes, whenever going to visit family abroad. We found that airports usually have better deals than standard shopping centres so there's no real reason in not getting it while travelling rather than before.
Revenue is 3x higher than a mall because items cost 3-6x what they do elsewhere. $5 candy bars and $6 bottles of water.... I got a 12 oz beer in an airport with no price on it once, once. It was $13.
There have only been two times I made a purchase in an airport. The first one, my phone charger stopped working and I desperately needed one so I could get directions after landing. The second time, I had HOURS before my flight and my girlfriend at the time wanted to use that time to call me and ask why I hadn't proposed yet, so I bought a pair of earbuds so that I could talk hands free while anxiously pacing around the airport.
Oh, man, I love you guys. That "Over here, Ed." was GREAT. I've been watching you guys since you were in your teen-K's, and it's been a thrill to watch you grow. Seen every video, and I'm proud to be here :)

How is it secure to pass by all the stores and stuff after? 🤦 This is very sleazy. Imagine if hospitals, schools, etc. were like this. Airports should be airports, not malls. Very scummy. 😒
I was flying alone to darwin from bali, my mom gave me 500k (1usd = 13-14k rupiah). I said it was too much. She said that i should keep it, might become handy. She suggested me to grab something at hard rock at the lounge because she and her bf likes to visit hard rock cafes everytime they went abroad. So i did. The service was great, but when I'm about to pay... THE BILL WAS 428K. I WAS SHOOK. The vanilla milkshake was 129k. The burger and fries was 299k. That was the most expensive meal I've ever had in my entire life. Seriously, i could use that money to eat for two and a half weeks.
And many airports won’t even broadcast your assigned gate until 5 minutes before boarding to force passengers to stay within the retail area of the airport. Even when they already have a gate assigned for the flight. This doesn’t happen a lot in the US but is pretty notable in airports like London.
I'm astonished this channel only has 500K followers. The quality of production just shot through the roof recently. I hope they don't actually have to pay for the open-space we see in the background.
Last summer I tried taking the airport bus to Narita in Tokyo, allowing two and a half hours from the time the bus was scheduled to arrive at the airport to the time of my flight. When I boarded the bus the AC wasn't on and the windows were open. Not what I preferred, but I figure it wasn't the end of the world. Halfway to the airport the bus stopped and the driver announced that since they were not allowed on the freeway with open windows and since the AC wasn't working, the bus wouldn't be going any further. He said that the company had called taxis for us to continue on from that point, and not to worry because we wouldn't be charged extra. (We were supposed to be thrilled at their generosity here.) When we left the bus station they knew there was no ac and that they would only be going halfway because of that, but they neglected to tell me when I asked about arrival times, bought the ticket, and boarded the bus. If they had said so, I had the option at that point of taking the metro instead. Instead they chose to wait until we were away from the station and had no other options. Between waiting for the taxis and heavy traffic I ended up getting to the airport about fifteen minutes after the flight had taken off. I ended up having to buy an expensive flight out on the spot for later that day as if it were my own fault for being late and that I deserved to be penalized for that. Nobody at the airport cared that the reason I was late was because I was following the schedule given to me by their own bus system. Things like this are the reason I still try to get to the airport super early.

Yep, on my way to Asia (12hr flight) I forgot my Bluetooth Head Phones. Decided the airport was the best place to get some upgraded Bose ones.
The airport bars are where I run into trouble...
Airport retail has been rising year over year
Corona: well how do you do?
At this point they can have my money. I just wanna chill at the KSEA food court again watching Q400s taxi out while eating! 😭
I usually get precheck and then hangout in the USO if I have spare time. The most I buy in airports is water for the flight.
i work at an airport and dont understand when my coworkers buy food at the airport
i guess they dont have the time to make a lunch before work
"Over here, ed"
A couple ways around a lot of this, that work for me: 1. Get TSA Pre and Clear (the former is free w/many credit cards, the latter is $119 a year if you have a Delta frequent flyer acct.)...I go through security in an average of 5 min. 2. Get credit cards that give you lounge access.
I don't shop at airports, but I did come within seconds of missing a tight transfer because I was forced through a massive duty free with a path that put Ikea to shame.. Really loved that
Haven't traveled anywhere in the last five years I've been going through a lot of financial problems.
I just buy food. I'm not tempted by other items.
I travel a lot. The only real "bargains" at duty free are cigarettes and alcohol. Everything else you can find in the city for much cheaper.
Arrive at airport, Go straight to toilet to empty water bottle, Go through security, Fill water bottle, Go to gate. Wait. Board
While I know I don't have to be at the airport that early, I usually do so "just to be safe".
Got headphones once. I lost my last pair on vacation but they were cheaper than my last pair and the exact same ones
Auntie Anne's gets me EVERY TIME in the airport
LAX is the most intense airport I’ve been in. Customs took 3+ hours, only 4 immigration desks open, and we missed our connecting flight to NYC
Except if you’re going through security in the U.K.! You don’t have time for shit after that!!
Busiest Malls in Phoenix:
1. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
2. Arrowhead Town Center
3. Arizona Mills Mall
Busiest Malls in Chicago
1. Chicago O'Hare International Airport
2. Woodfield Mall
3. Gurnee Mills
Create your own list
Yeah but if you need to find the damn gate and go through security so it's still good to get there two hours early.
My husband is an airline pilot, so I'm a frequent flier. I hardly ever buy anything from airports except for food because it's so expensive.
I've always associate an airport as a place where it is a hassle, TSAs basically violating your human privacy rights, and where everything is priced at 300% despite it being 'duty free'. I've learn to shut down and just go through the minimum necessary to get on my plane.
Well the food court doesn't bother me because I eat kosher only...😂😂😂
We always get to the airport early because It seems more efficient to get through TSA lines, eat, and peruse comfortable rather than stressing about missing your flight.
My parents would usually get gifts from airports, more specifically perfumes, whenever going to visit family abroad. We found that airports usually have better deals than standard shopping centres so there's no real reason in not getting it while travelling rather than before.
Only cigarettes and alcohol. Rest of the stuff are too expensive
Clearly cheddar has never been through TSA at SeaTac
Revenue is 3x higher than a mall because items cost 3-6x what they do elsewhere. $5 candy bars and $6 bottles of water.... I got a 12 oz beer in an airport with no price on it once, once. It was $13.
It's the perfect captive audience it's that simple
There have only been two times I made a purchase in an airport. The first one, my phone charger stopped working and I desperately needed one so I could get directions after landing. The second time, I had HOURS before my flight and my girlfriend at the time wanted to use that time to call me and ask why I hadn't proposed yet, so I bought a pair of earbuds so that I could talk hands free while anxiously pacing around the airport.
I just buy mobile data before a flight , sit use my phone and go away
Oh, man, I love you guys. That "Over here, Ed." was GREAT. I've been watching you guys since you were in your teen-K's, and it's been a thrill to watch you grow. Seen every video, and I'm proud to be here :)
I work for an airline and while 2hours is recommended it’s not necessary BUT if you’re checking a bag or you have not checked in you better do it at least 40 mins prior. If you arrive less than 40 prior at least on my airline even 39 mins you won’t be able to check in or check your bag.
Wow that's crazy!
-me at the airport slurping my small Starbucks frappuccino that costed $6
Lol. 2020: *it's corona time babey*
Now we get an extra line so they can interrogate you for your contact tracing info.
Knock, knock.
Who's there?
2020: 1 hour before domestic or international. It was a real ghost town going from Europe to America and back. The layover was just as empty. 3-5 minute security checkpoint everywhere.
1:58 - Then airports are stupid because nobody buys plane tickets with cash; they buy them with credit-cards. ¬_¬
2:05 - You go through security _first_ and then through the shops? 🤨 Security should be at the _end_ of the line, just before you get on the plane. How is it secure to pass by all the stores and stuff after? 🤦
This is very sleazy. Imagine if hospitals, schools, etc. were like this. Airports should be airports, not malls. Very scummy. 😒
I enjoy power walking past the shops
"Click here" ... there's nothing there bro
I eat food during my golden hour, so I am fed and happy on the airplane.
