You must not motivate yourself to study. You must motivate yourself to achieve what you want to achieve in science. Big difference. If you know your goal and if you truly care about achieving it, motivation to study will come on its own.
Studying is the means, not the aim. Motivation should start from the aim, not from the means to achieving the aim.
So, the first step to motivating yourself to study is to know very well what you want to achieve. Or, at least, to have some idea(s) of what you want to achieve.

    Great video
    I have a suggestion
Could you ask your mates also how do they study math especially top ones ?

hi ioana! do you have any tips for memorising content for maths and in general? you are such an inspiration

Thank you so much!! ☺️ I would recommend creating some “definitions and theorems” sheets/notebook where you write down all the theorems and concepts needed for a certain course. Make sure you revise these regularly and you’ll know them quickly!! More generally, I would say split the content into manageable chunks (I like to split them into 2 weeks of content per chunk), and try to understand/memorise if needed the content by testing yourself (this can be either flashcards or just writing down proofs from memory). Simply revise these sections after a couple of days, then after 3 days etc. by just reading through and you’ll have a solid understanding of everything. After that, past papers (if available) are always the key 😅 hope this helps!! xx

What do you think of deepening in Optimization? Is that a good idea? How much probability/statistics should a math student have? Would love to hear your thoughts

I definitely think Optimization is a great area of Maths to specialize in!! I also took all the optimization courses provided at Oxford. I think it’s great if you want to go further into machine learning or data science, and chances are you’ll always encounter optimization problems in your career.
I think a good basic understanding of Probability is essential for anyone that does Maths, but it’s entirely up to you further on. If you want to go into ML for example, basic Statistics is needed too.
Personally, I’d say a level of probability up to and including Markov Chains is good to have, and I would also start learning some stats as it’s becoming more and more useful (so stuff like maximum likelihood estimation, hypothesis testing, linear models etc.) hope this helps! ☺️

Hi, I want to ramble...my apologies if I am boring or incoherent or both. I have studied physics at Leiden University a long time ago.The first year I kind of liked it but my motivation went downhill. I also didn't like my fellow students, their debates and my teachers. I thought that I would become a scientist when I was 17 but I became a software developer instead, I do however like my job.I did graduate and my grades were not great but also not awful. Looking back I now realise that I like maths more than physics. I now 'study' maths in my leisure time. I started with focusing on things that physics students don't learn like prime numbers and modular arithmetic and group theory. I like it but it is hard and progress is slow. I am also relearning calculus and linear algebra, I have forgotten so much, even simple algebraic manipulations. I want to 'study' information theory too and maybe topology. I have given up on cathegory theory because that is so boring and abstract. I like polyhydrons and Euler's formula for them and Iike reading about the history of maths. In the past religion, phylosophy and maths were much more entangled.

@vangrails - Ellie Sleightholm has a TH-cam channel that focuses on Maths. She solves Maths equations in movies and tv shows.

hey Ioana great video! i literally came onto yt cuz i was sick of studying 🥲🥲 personally it would be damn helpful if you made the video in depth ab the study methods that you personally use and maybe how many hours you study (btw ur so pretty when i first came across your channel i was like damn this girl is both stunning and smart!?)
