- Growing up, I had always thought that going to Cambridge or Oxford was only for the immensely wealthy or immensely intelligent- now I am an undergraduate there and am neither of those things. So many people get put off of applying because they think that Oxbridge is out of reach, but in this video I hope to destigmatize application and have compiled multiple sources to show that it's not as hard as you may have thought to get in, and ways you can boost your chances of a successful application.
Whether you are in Year 9 or 10 and just beginning your journey, or in Year 11 or college and starting to seriously consider further education, I hope this video makes you at least consider giving Oxbridge a go- I mean, what really is the worst that can happen?!
As promised, here are the resources discussed in the video and that you may find useful:
Apprenticeship stuff: educationhub.b...
Oxford application stats: www.ox.ac.uk/a...
Gov Oxbridge data researchbriefi...
Cambridge Stats [YOU CAN USE THIS TO FIND COLLEGES AND COURSES TO APPLY TO]

And than there are those like me, who believe they have a 105% chance of getting in, despite having no formal qualifications ( being in yr ten). I fully believe I can get in on delusion alone, and am proud to say I’m spreading the attitude to my friends as well
For real.🍵
Fake it til you make it my friend! I've managed to blag it so far (apparently)...
5:44 Applying for lesser known subjects with less applicants and less competition actually worked for me
Originally when I was in Year 12 I planned to study Natural Sciences in Cambridge but after realising the high number of applicants I switched to Earth Sciences in Oxford and got in
If you don’t mind me asking what did you get in your GCSEs I am scared my grades are not competitive enough ☹️
@@haw4ii96 i moved from hong kong to the uk in year 12 so i didn’t do gcses
@@haw4ii96 but i think your predicted a level grades and performance in admissions tests and interviews matter quite a lot too
so don’t worry
@@ticksunbs4944 thanks so much 🙏
Dont tell them please i dont want competition
Sorry my friend, you’ve got it anyway. W inbound
@@LewisSeal great response seal
for an international student i think the finance part of it is the worst, over £40k ?????????????
Yeah it’s brutal, worth seeing what sort of bursaries and scholarships they’re offering, although will likely be even more competitive than a normal place
Hey Lewis, I will be applying to Oxford soon and I really would like some Oxford student to read my personal statement. I would be immensely grateful if you could do that :)
Being an international student Idek where to start from😭 and I wanted to study engineering
it is harder as an international student. but i think they already know that, think about what you bring to the table
Hello pal. Yazmin is right, think about why they should invest in you, what is unique to you that no one else can offer. Website i've linked here might be of interest to you, it's got a load of tabs on the side that gives some good information and an email with people to give you specialist advice. Be sure to check it out! www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/international-students
I'm applying this year for a master's at Cambridge, the entry requirement is a first however i got 40 percent in my final second year exam, bringing my average down to about 60. Has anyone applied for a masters and know how strict the grading is there? 🤔
Should I still do an essay competition even if im planning on doing a non essay subject (eg computer science) or should I focus more on something else such as a coding project
Do both. Write a computer science based essay on something you enjoy then do a coding project on it. You can put it in your personal statement in a way where you can say I did this essay, found it so interesting that I wanted to take it further by actually doing some coding
Well I think in that case it’s much of a muchness, a coding project would equally show just as much enthusiasm in the course beyond what you learn in the classroom. I mean if you can do both then you’re laughing. Have a look at what the course consists of because there’s a surprising number of subjects at Oxbridge that are essay based. Could even email into the admissions of a college that offer Computer Science and ask for a breakdown of the course. Doing an essay comp or a coding project both show enthusiasm for the subject and an ability for independent study though so go for it!!!
I really like your channel!
Cheers matey, glad you’re enjoying it. If there’s anything you want to see I. Particular lmk, otherwise I’ve got a few bits and bobs lined up for the next few weeks :)

Great video🔥

Do you think people from private schools are fighting an uphill battle then?
No, im pretty sure he still said applicants from private schools still disproportionately get in. The reason why the majority of students are from state schools is probably because they get loads and loads more applications from state school students, since most people go to state schools and not private schools
I was thinking the exact same thing 😢
Well I can’t because I don’t have the right alevels for what I want to study 💀💀
If I do an essay contest and lose, should I still put it on my application
Yes yes yes just dont say u lost
bro it's actually a cheat code:
-if you win you say "I won an essay competition"
-second place "I was a runner up in an essay competition"
-anything else "I committed independent research when taking part in an essay competition"
Then you're absolutely laughing (as long as you make sure you know what you're talking about if they ask you!)
how for classics are offers higher than applications 😭
Rogue stuff, might be pooled applicants?
Underrated Video
cheers mate, glad to hear you didn't think it was absolute trash
If it’s easy to get in on a different subject it isn’t worth doing…
Potentially, or maybe people just here teachers and parents pushing them towards conventional courses
🙂↕️ hi I'm an example of this phenomenon wooo 🙂↕️
I still don't know how I got in 😅 but I guess God was on my side
My daily mantra my friend
You sound like you went to a state school witch is good
DONT TELL THEM PLEASE
hahahah sorry matey
It would seem some people may struggle to make their offer though 😔
"First time was so nice, I had to do it twice". But literally had to
Is a 7.9 gpa at gcse enough?
gcse mean nothing, A levels are what matter.
Known people who got all grade 9 gcse and got B's and C's at A level
@@kamil3969wrong, UCAS still looks at GCSEs. Not the be-all end-all, but still a factor they consider e.g. anything lower than a 7 or 6 in english is basically gg
my gpa was 7.6 and i got a 6 in both english lit and lang and i got into cambridge so…. it really doesn’t matter. as long as your a levels are good, your personal statement is strong and you do good in your interview you’re fine….
i should add that i got A* in EPQ so maybe that convinced them to not care about my gcse english grades
