  • @davidryley4162
    @davidryley4162 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I did that too in 89.
    Both parents went for me.
    Thier youngster was snared in fishing line, in the middle of a lake.
    My dad, cast a pike lure, and broke the line.
    The cygnet came to the bank as it was exhausted after its ordeal.
    Couple of Carp anglers said, he has been snagged out there for 3 days. Our thoughts of them, must remain unprinted.
    Anyway, i shimmied the bank and grabbed it.
    2 angry parents hot pursuit.
    We cut the line from its legs, and then the fun started.
    Yes, 2 homicidal parents want my guts.
    I shimmied back and launched thier cygnet back to them, then they buggered off.
    Ungrateful gits ❤❤

      They aren’t ungrateful. Swans don’t understand the concept of a person ‘saving’ their cygnets. No bird does. They assume anyone in (temporary) possession of their youngsters, is a threat. If only we could communicate to them.

    Well, if I’m not mistaken, that is the river and weir in Otley, West Yorkshire, UK, where I lived until 5 years ago when we moved 6 miles away! That is a very slippery river edge and that area that he walked on is usually thick mud so it must have been last summer (2022) He did exceptionally well as the weir is usually huge and he wouldn’t have got down there. The swans are quite forgiving and used to lots of people but he did a great job with the rescue. The babies are often quite silly and go into daft places but usually get out OK. Thank you for helping.

So I started doing the rescues myself where possible. If a man must do it, he should have his back to the swan and look over his shoulder as much as possible.

The swan family is reunited and the world did not fall apart.

      It's not exactly about the help he gave, it's just that he got involved at all. Some animals will abandon their young if enough has "rubbed off" onto them from the human.
