- Kate and Jim hit the jackpot during this rockhounding trip up the Yellowstone River by boat. The beaches are filled with beautiful rocks, and Kate finds some stunning, GIGANTIC agates, even though they are covered with a light coating of silt! It's an amazing day on the Yellowstone - besides the big agates, there are abundant finds of agatized wood, colorful jasper, stromatalites and all kinds of different rocky treasures. It's a rock hunt to remember - and you are invited! Come along. :)
Come take a visit to Highland Park Lapidary in Whitinsville, Mass., and see some of the most beautiful rocks in the world! Kate and Jim stopped by HP Lapidary during a recent trip, and in addition to a tour by owner Sherman Rowland, Kate got the opportunity to dig through their amazing bins of gorgeous rocks from all over the world. It is a rockhound's paradise - come along!

Such great stuff!!!!!!! It's pretty amazing that even down in my area we can get some Yellowstone agates and jaspers. I'm down by the blue forest in Wyoming
Very cool! I have wanted to visit the Blue Forest. Not yet! :)
New mineral name at 16:00, CHERTIFIED WOOD!😂
I should stop now.
Hi, Katie, your state has some really interesting stones, very different from what you'd find in Connecticut and other parts of New England where we have Granite pegmatite and minerals like beryl, lepidolite, tourmaline, cassiterite, zircon, sphene and wolframite to name a few.
I was in Massachusetts recently - I'd love to explore New England!
@@KatyDidRocks Sounds like you need to spend quite a bit of time in New England & you need to do a fair amount of research on each state before getting to these six states. You might also like to check out the Natural History Museums with Geology/Mineral/Gems exhibits in these states, also. If you like plants/flowers/etc., there is one further N/H/M which is associated with Harvard University that I think you'll be amazed with: The Glass Flowers. This is online, so you can check it out. Even though I live in CT, I have seen the exhibit which is across the hall from rock, mineral, gem exhibit. The 1st time I saw both exhibits was when my 11th Grade English teacher, who taught American Literature, took a bus load of kids including me to Boston for the day in 1957 to see important sites, including the N H M @ Harvard. Over the years, I have seen both exhibits 7-8 times.
They look like ancient bacterial matts the formed in Hot Springs. Youi can see those live things in Yellowstone at the older hotsprings places! wow thanks!
Thank you
The jasper towerd the end was beautiful colors
Hello Katy!
Hey, Jenn! Premiere at 6.
Save some agates for me. Hope I can make it there someday. I like quartzite

I have hunted on the John Day before - but didn't find ANY agates!

Is rockhounding on the Yellowstone good into October?

You found an elk tooth agate. :)
It sure LOOKED like a tooth - do you really think it was an elk tooth?
@@KatyDidRocks Not a real tooth. But it is all in the eye of the beholder.
I would like to see more videos where you cut the rocks
Nice finds! Wondering, what size slab saw do you have?
I have a 16" from my dad, and a 20" from Highland Park. Both are great. :)

Ha - no rocks were harmed in the making of this video. 😂
A stranding successAgree with Jim, looked like a petrified brain Lucky you Kate that can do something together with your husband, then things get more fun I guess?I WISH I had beaches like this, then I would have been outside all the time and drowned in rocks but then I had something to look at. You really found a LOT to work with. NICE.
