"Classic" these things were made during an American auto manufacturing slump, they weren't attractive and they weren't reliable or efficient. They were one part failing auto industry, one part emissions/fuel efficiency regulation compliance. Unless you have some kind of nostalgic relationship with these things or you're a cheap hunk connoiseure these, though defund as such by the 25yr plus rule, are NOT classics.

@@fluffykittynoodles Well, there are plenty of 'classics' out there that weren't good cars in their day. You never know what will eventually become a certified 'classic'. Yes, my nostalgia on these comes from being a kid during this time period, a time when I was really into every kind of car. And, I always liked the bodystyle of these. Just the fact that it's still surviving at this age, runs so good, and has low miles, is all the reason why not to destroy it. How many Kia Optimas will be on the road in 38 years?

My Dad had an 84 Delta 88 and because of emissions the carb had to stay but we found someone to bypass some of it to make it work, got better gas mileage after that too. No emissions in Iowa so replace the junk carb with a regular one and it should run great and get decent mileage, I think best was around 19 mpg in my Dad's Olds, but may have been in the 20's. Check the carb. There are two plugs in the bottom of the bowl (have to pull the baseplate to see them) that look almost JB Welded from the factory. They leak causing the carb to use too much fuel. There is a black small pad sold at any parts store to deal with it. As long as that car sat I’d bet they are leaking. The plugs seal off where the main passages were drilled I believe. Tap on the plugs with a hammer to reseal the factory seal first then add the leak pad. Makes a big difference on your mileage.

These cars got 17-19mpg highway normally.
The later tbi cars could get insanely good numbers for what they were. I had a roadmaster that did 27mpg on a long trip once.
If you want a modernish safe car with cheap insurance you are better off with an older (1990s) Mercury Grand Marquis.
Insurance for these old B bodies is actually more expensive.
The Grand Marquis has the best combination of big safe body on frame car with dual airbags and V8 power, 23mpg highway, 4 wheel disk with ABS, and very cheap and very available parts. Most parts inter change from 1992 to 2011 so you can keep em running forever with junkyard parts.
These were neat (ive had one) but the Panther wins hands down for sure.
If you guys keep it and decide not to kill it swap in a olds 425 or 455 it will drop right in on the 307 mounts and make it a fuckin rocket. Yeah gas mileage will go down but who cares?

This "loader" at 5:15 is the idle speed magnet when you engage the a/c
If this fails the idle speed will lower so far that the engine goes off in drive.
You could loosing the control of the car in traffic. Dangerous!!
To check it for proper function turn the ignition on, then switch off and
on the a/c. You should hear nothing but the the accelerator lever must
    move up- and backward.
If it guzzles too much gas check the evap canister for free airflow underneath.
Mostly the drain holes below are clogged with dirt. This is a part from
the EGR-system. Check the system for leakage and rusted tubes.

Fellas, do yourselves a favor and take the bulb out for the check engine light on the Oldsmobile. I had 2 , 81 Olds Delta 88's and the computer control system for the engine is a joke. The check engine light in these cars comes on constantly. Just pull the bulb and you'll thank me, just don't disconnect anything from the Carb or she'll run like crap. These cars are incredibly durable and reliable.

ALWAYS started, had ice-cold air, rode like a champ, and was a good-looking car for the time. The reason the Olds is winning the grass drags is putting the shifter in 2 keeps the trans in 2nd gear for better traction. The Cordoba has a bigger engine, but spins the tires because of how wide they are. Olds advantage!!! Keep it for a work and road trip car!! You can carry 4 people with you, plus all their gear.
