My IgA test was positive 2 times. Plus the giveaway was that I had dermatitis herpaformis since I was 12 years old and would itch after every meal. I got a biopsy even though it wasn't necessary at the time, but I didn't know any better and it showed major irritation. But when I don't eat gluten my itch stops in it's tracks. Thanks for your dedicated work, you're an angel.

I took a blood test and it came back negative but I had already laid off the gluten for months I haven’t eaten again but every time I had a pancake ,croissant, soy sauce i would be in bed hurting with a stomach that was swollen bloated and did not feel good for a loooooonng time
Hello, I have had the celiac tests and have been said that I don´t have celiac. But I also had an IgG test to test for foods sensitivities, and the test was positive for so many foods, including all gluten-containing foods, that I was discouraged. Do you feel that it means that I have celiac? or gluten intolerance? I don´t understand well the difference between celiac disease and gluten intolerance. By the way, I have a chronic illness. Thanks!
We should probably speak so that I can get a better understand of what is occurring. First I would like to know what specific chronic illness you are suffering from. Celiac tests can be negative but you can still have gluten sensitivity. I am not diagnosing you, just making a comment. Plus if you have a leaky gut, the IgG food sensitivity test has the liability of many false positives - unfortunately. I would like to assist you. Hello Dr Vikki. I have low negative IgA and IgG results ( 1.56 and 1.13) U/ml. I had done lower and upper Endoscopy with no any positive signs of Gluten and Celiac Disease except some signs of Piles (heamorides) which operated surgical in back to 2013. However, I have a problem with my Intestine; including weight loss, digestion problem, fatigue and gastric in Intestine. Please Help :(
Such good information. I'm going on the assumption that I can't have gluten, so I'm off it. It's been a lifetime search to find answers for the pain and other symptoms and skin lesions. I'm not going back now but would have liked it to have been considered by my doctor when we were trying to find medical solutions. I don't want to become one of those, "can't count on doctors" people but, it's not the first diagnosis that was missed. Glad I still have my faculties and could think it through myself. If staying off gluten is all it takes, no problem.
Glad you're doing well. Sometimes there are secondary effects that need to be addressed. If your health is not quite to the level you'd like, definitely let me know and we can do a free phone consultation (408-733-0400), but otherwise keep up the great work!
Thank you so much, Dr. Petersen. Can't believe the relief I've had so far. I will sure keep that in mind. Nice to know of someone who understands it. Seems like a lifetime of depression is lifting too, along with that muddled feeling (brain fog?) Tired of suffering. Even tho I'm older, it's wonderful to find some answers...I hope. Lynn
I have got sensitive to gluten this year, Now this summer I got more sensitive. I can not even eat a soup with wheat in it or 4 fishsticks and I get stomach pains. when I come home I will call the doctor. I don't think I have celiac, I have been more active and got some muscles. I have cutting down on gluten 50% because don't want to pass gas at work. I hope the test do not show false negative because of that. I will eat more wheat when I am alone before the test. haha
Dr.Vikki Petersen, hello there! thank you so much for this informative video i really appreciate this. I am just wondering, in the UK there has been a lot of funding cut to the NHS, so my General practitioner is refusing to refer me for a biopsy. I understand his point of view, and i have had negative bloods come back for the IgA tests, I also think they ran TGG bloods too a while ago and they were ok. However it's getting to a point now where i am consuming gluten, because of these results being "ok" (i feel it may be false negative) and my reactions are becoming quite chronic and violent. My questions is, do you think small intestinal biopsy is absolutely necessary, as you have only mentioned the bloods as being a good enough indication. I have read many negatives of having the biopsy done and if I'm honest would like to avoid it at all costs if possible. as you can guess i'm a little conflicted here, but have been having no luck with my own GP. Any thoughts/advice would be more than appreciated from yourself, or anyone else who has had similar experiences. Thanks again for the video!
I have been off gluten for three weeks and feel much better with some serious intestinal issues. I do want to have some lab testing done however, how long do I need to be back on gluten for my tests to work?
You don't necessarily need to go back to eating gluten if it's only been three weeks. And in fact it could be dangerous to do so. You can likely get tested now and still get accurate results. But do so quickly. If you need further information or the best tests to take consider contacting us for a free health analysis - call 408-733-0400. We are a destination clinic and treat patients from across the country and internationally. We are here to help! I look forward to speaking with you.
I always hear about how you need to do a gluten challenge before having blood tests or endoscopy to diagnose celiac disease. I was wondering though, how long would you have to be on a gluten free diet before an endoscopy would show a false negative?
Hello Julia, If you have embarked on a gluten-free diet and are feeling better, it's dangerous to reintroduce gluten to perform a test. As regards your question, it depends on the individual. If you've only been off gluten a few weeks and you have celiac disease with extensive damage, that damage would still be visible on an endoscopy. If it important to note that you can have celiac disease with little to no damage to the lining of the gut which is why an endoscopy is no longer considered the 'gold standard' of celiac diagnosis. There are many ways to receive a diagnosis, beyond an endoscopy, especially if you've already been off gluten for months. Please consider contacting me for a free health analysis if you'd like some advice (call 408-733-0400) - we're here to help! Best, Dr Petersen
goclarks The lab would have had to run a total IgA. Even a low normal is suspicious. Either IgG or IgA positive means a positive test- that's why both are run. Plus, IgA is frequently deficient when celiac is present so we've learned the importance of testing the IgG to avoid false negatives with IgA. Please let me know if you need some help with the next steps. It's important that the secondary effects of gluten are evaluated. Contact me for a free phone consultation- 408-733-0400. I'm happy to help.
dr.Vikki i also have a question for No reason at all i broke out in a extremely hot sweat rapid heartbeat numbness of and dizziness we doctors said I had a panic attack. Does that sound right.
Hello Donte, I cannot diagnose you over the internet - it's not legal here in the U.S. The symptoms you mention can occur during a panic attack but the important issue to unearth is what caused the symptoms. Simply putting a label on it doesn't help to get to the underlying cause. If you'd like assistance consider contacting us for a free consultation - call 408-733-0400. We are here to help and as a destination clinic we see patients from across the country and internationally. I look forward to hearing from you!
I am so upset - I asked my gastroenterologist to test me for Celiac and gluten sensitivity - he refused! I had been having horrible red rash facial flushing, sometimes accompanied by palpitations and nausea and wanted to rule out gluten. My doc INSISTED it was "viral" and sent me home. I told him I had started getting them daily - and I was taking Zyrtec to help ward off the symptoms. He still dismissed me. So, on my own, I went gluten free a little over a month ago, and the red rash attacks have stopped. Now I've been trying to get tested by my endocrinologist, but I'm afraid it won't be accurate due to already having stopped eaten gluten.
Hello Dr. Vikki i have been tested for Tissue transglutaminase IgA and IgG and both came back Negative so does that mean that i don't have celiac disease ?
It likely means that but it's not absolute. Did they run a total IgA with the test? It would be important to know that value. Have you had a genetics test? And lastly, testing for gluten sensitivity if you have symptoms that could be related to that would also be a good idea. Feel free to call me for a phone consultation - 408-733-0400. I'm happy to help.
I would like to have a call but i live in Egypt and i cannot contact that number i am afraid .. and no they didn't i think they might not have that test here (Total IgA) but i will ask if it is available .. what are these genetics tests called ? i get a lot of facial pain and numbness in my face hands and chest after i have eaten any pasta noodles and pizza and what are gluten sensitivity tests called in case i ask about them i am working my own research there is no doctor looking after me in this Celiac Disease case i will be happy if you can help me and thanks in advance.
Hello Billy, I cannot diagnose you nor make specific recommendations over the internet. You'll need to discuss your test results with your doctor. Depending on your health status, do keep in mind that AGA is just one of 10 possible ways to "ask" the immune system how it feels about gluten. A negative AGA doesn't negate the possibility of a gluten sensitivity. If you have more questions, feel free to write back.
hi Dr presten I'm going through some test my self as I've had test done and biopsys taken which have come back with a abnormal result I'm enimic and iron supplements r no longer working I'm going to have an iron infusion in two weeks and a following one the week after I'm also being transferred to see a ginnicolagest for more test as I've had a blood test which was negative so the doctor wants to investigate more. Thanks for the video it's so infomative. can you tell me what sort of test they may want to do?
My doctor isn't really doing anything am not sure which one is the right result the hematolagy doctor said that the gannicolagist might try a gluten diet. Do you know what nay happen when i see the gannicolagist.
Ann Thistleton Tell me what your doctor recommends and the result and we can take it from there. Your body is able to heal once we discover what's taxing it. Keep me updated.
At the min am eating a normal diet as my Dr is going by the negative blood results and saying that's not celiac that giving me ennimia. But the hematolagy doctor said that he is referring me to a ginacolagist. I've also been suffering with a lot of loose out put. I don't know if I've mentioned I have a stoma. It's a very active stoma . Colostomy.
Dr Viki, is it common for people with celiac to have weekend immune system, I’m back on gluten so the celiac and gene test can be actuate. I must have weekend immun system coz I got a cold my flue 3 times last winter and chest infection twice
If you're celiac and eating gluten, yes you will have a weakened immune system. The same goes for those with gluten sensitivity. And even if you're avoiding gluten, if you don't rebuild your immune system, it will be at risk. But it can be repaired and made strong.
Hello! Thank you so much for this video, this is my exact situation. I tested in the "normal" range for my IgA test but tested high (I had 10.0, normal range was 0-6.0) for my IgG test. I had a biopsy done which came back negative. My doctor has ensured me that this was a false positive blood test. Should I get a second opinion?
It is not necessarily false positive. Your doctor is not current when he/she thinks a biopsy is a gold standard for diagnosis. An abnormal blood test with symptoms associated with celiac or gluten sensitivity is highly indicative of a problem. Further, with gluten sensitivity you wouldn't have a positive biopsy - it affects the body differently, although it's no less of a problem. We should speak and get an idea of how you should best proceed. Please consider contacting us for a free phone consultation - call 408-733-0400.
Hello Lorena. When you say "IgA" was that a tTG test? I need a little more data in order to help. IgA stands for immunoglobulin A, part of your immune system. What I need to know is the full name of the test and what symptoms you have that prompted you to get it. I look forward to hearing from you. Alternatively, we could set up a phone consultation - 408-733-0400, but that's up to you.
Thanks for replying Yes the test I had done is t-transglutaminase (tTG) IGA which is a 7H . I’m asthmatic an have allergies to cats and dogs my provider decided to do this test but I don’t have symptoms. I already have set up an appt with a Gastro not sure if they will do something to determine if I have the disease or not since the provider believes in a future I can start having symptoms.
I'm getting tested tomorrow and I'm concerned. Will it be a waste to do this if I haven't eaten gluten for 19 days? I've been sick for 19 days because I accidentally ate twizzlers. I have all the signs of celiacs but idk I'm scared the test will be negative. I've been very sick all year long. I just want an answer :(
Chem Slave You may be celiac, you may be gluten sensitive, or something else. To answer your question the test could be negative after 19 days with no gluten. But it also could be negative because you don't have celiac, or because the tests aren't perfect. I'm not trying to confuse you but there are some issues you should be clear about. There's a definite reason you're feeling sick, however, and I'd be happy to help you. The test is tomorrow- blood or biopsy? If it's blood you may as well go ahead. If it's a biopsy do realize they're not perfect even if you have celiac. Let me know the results, your symptoms, and we can talk and help you get to the root cause of your symptoms. I wish it was an easier answer but that is the truth. Call me for a free phone consultation- we are good at this. 408-733-0400.
coilykinks Yes, leaky gut is most definitely reversible. The trick is in finding and eliminating the stressors that are causing and perpetuating it. We specialize in that, so please let me know if you need any assistance. We are a destination clinic and treat patients from across the country and internationally. I look forward to hearing from you.
I need a little more data. Can you look at the lab and give me the exact full name of the test plus the reference range? Common celiac tests are tTG, deamidated gliadin, etc. Also the reference range will let me know what is considered abnormal in the lab that was used. Write back to me!
The immune system acts to defend the body against hostile invaders. In those sensitive to gluten, the body treats it like a toxin. Therefore every time one ingests gluten the body's immune system rises to defend it against this "toxin". Make sense?
Sonam Jain The lab test should show the reference range. 0.46 is low, so that particular level seems negative. However just because that test is negative doesn't completely rule out a gluten problem. I'd be happy to speak with you, learn your health history and decide how best to optimize your health. Give me a call for a free phone consultation- 408-733-0400. I look forward to speaking with you.

I have been false negative for decades.

The test was likely a false negative since you weren't eating gluten, but your body is being quite clear about what it thinks of it.

Vikki Petersen oh ok thanks so much for the info Vikki, i will be going gluten free after i tested for celiac 😊
@@litkate Great. Let me know if you need any assistance.
Vikki Petersen thx you i will
@@litkate That's great Litkate.
My IGA is a 7H considered weak positive ? What does it mean ?
Hello Lorena. When you say "IgA" was that a tTG test? I need a little more data in order to help. IgA stands for immunoglobulin A, part of your immune system. What I need to know is the full name of the test and what symptoms you have that prompted you to get it. I look forward to hearing from you. Alternatively, we could set up a phone consultation - 408-733-0400, but that's up to you.
Thanks for replying
Yes the test I had done is t-transglutaminase (tTG) IGA which is a 7H . I’m asthmatic an have allergies to cats and dogs my provider decided to do this test but I don’t have symptoms. I already have set up an appt with a Gastro not sure if they will do something to determine if I have the disease or not since the provider believes in a future I can start having symptoms.
@@lorena3015 Let me know how it goes with the Gastro. Is there anything else going on with your health other than allergies?
I’m overall healthy just asthma. But now concerned about celiac
What doesn’t it mean having weak positive? If it shows in my system it means my body reacts to gluten right
Does the stool turn tannish color and smell really sulfuric with celiac?
Kirk V Yes, I belief it can. Probably best see your doctor if your worried
Mine did.
Good Evening Dr
My stool result was high in antigliadin antibodies..does that mean I am celiac?
Quick question Dr., is leaky gut reversible?
coilykinks Yes, leaky gut is most definitely reversible. The trick is in finding and eliminating the stressors that are causing and perpetuating it. We specialize in that, so please let me know if you need any assistance. We are a destination clinic and treat patients from across the country and internationally. I look forward to hearing from you.
Dr. Vikki Petersen Thanks for that.
My immunoglobulin a, an, serum is 5. Is that celiac ?
I need a little more data. Can you look at the lab and give me the exact full name of the test plus the reference range? Common celiac tests are tTG, deamidated gliadin, etc. Also the reference range will let me know what is considered abnormal in the lab that was used. Write back to me!
how does gluten weaken the immune system ?
The immune system acts to defend the body against hostile invaders. In those sensitive to gluten, the body treats it like a toxin. Therefore every time one ingests gluten the body's immune system rises to defend it against this "toxin".
Make sense?
I was diagnosed with celiac, five years later I was celiac free now the doctor I’m celiac free... eat gluten . Wow?
My ttg 0.46
What r Norma range
Sonam Jain The lab test should show the reference range. 0.46 is low, so that particular level seems negative. However just because that test is negative doesn't completely rule out a gluten problem. I'd be happy to speak with you, learn your health history and decide how best to optimize your health. Give me a call for a free phone consultation- 408-733-0400. I look forward to speaking with you.
