    Unsure if a prime lens is right for you? Here you have two TRICKS:
    1. Fix your kit lens to the desired focal lenght and shoot with it for one/two weeks. See if it felt too wide or too narrow.
    2. Experiment with cheap VINTAGE LENSES. A bunch of old lenses with manual focus and aperture can be found on ebay and local shops. Pre-AI an AI from Nikkon are built like a tank and feature excellent performance. Only few warnings: they are only manual focus, and they mostly won't meter on your mid-range camera. So be prepare to learn manual focus and reading the histogram. Pay attention of Pre-AI lenses because they need to be adapted to fit modern Nikons mount.

      Used to have the 50mm D lens. Sold it along with an old camera to sweeten a deal. Thinking of grabbing the newer 50mm G lens f1.8 (as long as my wife doesn't find out I'm buying another lens) 😂

    Excellent tip on trying your current lens at the focal length of the lens you’re thinking of buying! Good review.

    Great tutorial! I shoot with a Nikon classic 50mm 1.8D and a 24-70mm zoom lens, and I find BOTH are very useful around lenses! Thanks for sharing

    I agree, I have the same lens and it gives great bokeh. I just did I video on how to get that. The G model is key as the 50mm 1.8D will not auto focus.

    Really like your style and the boom mike is cool.
    I have recently acquired a Nikon d5200. I bought an adapter ring with the so called
    Focus to infinity lense for seven bucks on eBay so I can mount my Super Takumar
    50mm F1.4 Vintage prime also from eBay ( Was around 150 bucks ). Big warning for all
    Those out there wanting to try vintage lenses on your Nikon ,with some of these vintage primes is that you won't be able Get infinity focus to work. These vintage lenses give fantastic closeup and mid range
    Distance shots but on the Nikon body infinity focus will not be able to be obtained.
    I spent hours on the net finding a fix. Don't bother just buy the Nikon F1.8 D lense
    Or the one reviewed here in this video ( Nikon F1.8G ) then you can skip the frustration and just enjoy
    The lense and camera. Do your homework and enjoy....Cheers guys.

      @newpix7555  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yo great insights! That´s a very common issue when you have vintage lenses form other brands. For example I have the same issue with a Pentacon 50mm 1.8 that I adapted. I can´t focus very far from me. However, it has a very close focusing distance making very good for nice macro shots ;)
      I would generally advice for the same F1.8D, available for 60/70€. Cheap and excellent piece of glass! :)
      I personally have chosen the G series for the autofocus, which is essential when I work with people taking portraits. I require speed which was not possible with manual focus in my case.

    I want to buy this lens, but i am interested in astrophotography... And with a nikond5300 crop cam i will get 75mm, which i doubt can get full milky way with a landscape for composition. Would you suggest it for landscape and astrophotography?

    Solid Lens. I wish Nikon would work on the Focus ring. When turning it it really feels like the ring is turning on a bed of sand. It is REAL gritty. But all in all for sub $200 category, I won't nag any. I truly do enjoy the lens. I have not picked up the 35mm yet. I find myself wishing I had it more and more every day.

  • @newpix7555
    @newpix7555  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Totally agree! I would say that 50mm on crop sensor is the best and most versatile choice!

  • @akimbohr
    @akimbohr ปีที่แล้ว

    Very Sharp lens, but nobody mentions its drawback: Focus shift between F 1.8-2.8, especially noticable at close distance. After F4 depth of field solves the "problem".

    Hi, I am Hasan. I am a beginner photographer. I have a Nikon D3400 and 18-55mm. I want to buy a prime lense. My choice are 35mm f1.8g and 50mm f1.8g but don't understand which to buy. I shoot mostly normal life like street portrait landscape etc. so I hope you can help me.

    • @newpix7555
      @newpix7555  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      street photography? Then go with the 35mm :) For landscape I would stick with your wider kit lens

    Which is good prime lens for nioon d5300? 50mm 1.8 or 85mm 1.8?

    • @newpix7555
      @newpix7555  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel that the 50mm will take you great way to start in portrait. It is much more budget friendly and will earn you money.
      I would start with that, earn and then buy the 85. The thing is the 85 is much less versatile and requires specific needs (like headshots, portraits).
      What do you usually like to shoot?

    50mm prime lens can be use in nikon D5300?

    • @newpix7555
      @newpix7555  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure! All prime lenses can be used here. The only thing is that they will be cropped compared to FX. Meaning you will have less field of view.

    I want to buy prime lense and i am confuse between 35mm and 50mm

    • @newpix7555
      @newpix7555  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say, use the kit lens for street and get the 50mm for the portraits. That what I did ;)

  • @AlberGrau
    @AlberGrau 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I got the 35mm because 50mm gets to close on the crop sensor. It seems like you´you and I have the same camera with almost the same lenses

    • @newpix7555
      @newpix7555  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      sounds good! The think is that 35 is usually too short for me as I mainly do portraits and fashion photography, which gets me closer to the classic 85mm focal lenght. In your case the 35 is perfect for street and general pics i guess
