The ending is all in Sebastian’s head. If he had chosen Mia instead of pursue his own dreams. Realizing that he still could have had a beautiful life had he chosen her too. But they both decided to choose their passions. And they both supported each other and got what they wanted but without each other. In the end he pushed her and she became the actress she wanted to be. And he followed her suggestions and push to believe in himself and his passion and was also successful. So the end is him imagining life with her and that he still would have been fulfilled. But also accepting the life that he has because of her and moving on. One of my favorite endings to a film. Heartbreaking. But absolutely beautiful!

Yeah I see a lot of people taking it differently, but to me this is about not giving up on your dreams and the people who push you there along the way, she pushes him towards the club he pushes her towards the play. I like to think they know at the end that for all the things they might wish to be different they are still happy for each other and pleased they made it to their dream in the end!
I love this film! The director said in an interview that the film is for all of the dreamers who reach for their dreams and suffer through all of the auditions and rejection. He said everyone has someone or people that supported their dreams and helped them make it...but they don't always stay in their life forever. Doesn't mean they don't look back and remember the support and love for that person.
Wow what you said about your AI audition. My brother went through the same thing. They said he was phenomenal but not what they were looking for. He has a voice more for theater rather than whatever they wanted. But now he sings, choreographs, directs, etc and is happy. I say all that to say as much as it hurts, it put you on a path to find your niche. And you still get to sing for us from time to time! 😁

I had to laugh when you said “He with the right person at the moment” - you unintentionally called one of the main points of the movie. They were right for each other for that time in their lives, someone to push them toward their dreams. One of my favorite subtle visuals of the movie is when the record plays out during their dinner argument, as if that honeymoon period of their relationship had played out too. Then flip to side B - everything’s on its head until it’s eventually time for a new record. FYI, the setting for the number where they fly is the Griffith Observatory in LA. The whole movie is kind of a love letter to the showbiz side of Los Angeles, which I kind of love as a SoCal native. If you ever visit LA, the observatory is beautiful at night & offers one of the best views of the city.

Watched it several times at the cinema and felt deeply at the dinner scene that Seb is saying things that he cannot take back and that it will ruin their relationship. Also the bittersweet recap of what could have been brought tears to my eyes.
to answer your question, i believe most if not all of the movie was shot in none other than la la land itself… LA BABYYYY!!❤ crazy enough even the scene where seb goes to the drive thru shop and is looking across the street at the club is shot in my hometown which is i think considered the entertainment capital (we have the warner bros studio, nbc, disney headquarters, cartoon network (rip it just closed), nickelodeon, paramount studios, etc). i was so shook when i was first watching it and recognized it😂 i love this movie cuz it’s such a gorgeous love letter to LA and all the beauty of it

All the changes in the alternate are changes in HIS behavior: Not blowing her off in the beginning, turning down Keith's offer, coming to the play, and following her to Paris. Her dream was realized in both versions, but his changed. Sebastian's dream changed over time, and I think he has some regrets. He has the club, but the cost was so very high for him. He smiles at the end because he loves her so much and is happy for her. Also, with regard to their argument, I think he's acting so pissy because she hit the nail on the head, and he knows she's right and he immediately is defensive. It was one of the most realistic arguments I've seen on film. Love everything about this movie!

I remember I went to bass hall for a field trip and it was people playing jazz and NO disrespect to jazz whatsoever but it made me sooo sleepy and to me that’s a good thing. I feel like American Idol auditions were always the worst kind of showbiz BS, because they specifically are only looking for a SMALL number of great singers - and so they intentionally choose a bunch of mediocre or downright BAD singers to actually go through and get in front of the main judges on TV. Because the producers decided it makes for "better TV" if the judges have to sit through a lot of mediocre and bad auditions before finally seeing good/great singers.

I auditioned for americas got talent and my family was with me and I auditioned and I made the mistake in telling someone before who was in my group that I was doing it. She told me she was doing a different song and then she goes into the audios and she says “I’m singing beautiful” and mind you I’m a little older at the time maybe 17 or so she was like 10 and you know when you’re younger it’s better but I literally remember putting my heart and soul into it but her changing like that made me so mad but I didn’t wish anything I’ll on her and then I never got a callback to it. I took it hard and never auditioned again and I’m 26 and I’m trying to do it again but in my own way. I post on TH-cam now they aren’t amazing but I’m working on that. Anyway I can still sing and act and dance is my outlet of happiness no matter what it might be.

I hated the way that Seb acted during their dinner and everything he said was so wrong because it definitely wasn’t in line with what Mia was trying to say since all she wanted was for him to be happy and she could see that in that moment he wasn’t happy but he was way out of line with the whole “Maybe you just liked me when I was on my ass because it made you feel better about yourself thing.” After that he totally deserved her breaking up with him.
