Dr. Please help😢. I am 49. I don’t get hot flashes or anything like that. Since March, I suddenly have bad insomnia. I can’t fall asleep and lucky if I get 1-3 hours a night. Some nights I don’t sleep at all. I am 49. Is this perimeno snd how can I improve. I’ve tried everything thing (sleep hygiene, prescribed sleep meds, malentonin, etc...nothing works).I still have regular periods. Is HT something to consider? My Gyno suggest estradiol (1mg) with medroxyprogesteron for 10 mg. Is this dose good to help with insomnia or would you suggest a different HT? Please help as I am so desperate

Hi, I know your comment is from one year ago. I am having a very hard time with insomnia for a few months now. How are you doing with your insomnia? If you are better, can you please share with me what you did or what you are taking for sleep? I really hope you are doing well and I really appreciate your feedback in advance 🙏

@@bichinha8 Hi Sofia, I know your comment is from one year ago. I'm going through very horrible insomnia and have tried everything possible. I know this is definitely due to menopause because ever since starting perimenopause it's been on and off but I am on my 2nd month of no period and insomnia has gotten much worse. I barely sleep at all and it makes all my other menopause symptoms much worse. Can you please share with me if you are still going through this and if there is anything you found that has helped you. I would really appreciate your response. Thank you.

Sadly you described my life exactly!! I used to love my quiet mornings but now can barely get out of bed because I’ve been up in the middle of the night. It’s so disruptive to my daily routine! Gonna try some of your tips Thanks

I wake up 3 times a night - sweating buckets then freezing. And to pee🤷🏻‍♀️ these have never happened before ..
Having nightmares as well - vivid and disturbing. Hot flashes but only during the night🤷🏻‍♀️ I seem fine during the day except slow
To get going.. I’m sleeping like crap because of this. Thankfully I’m able to take a 2-3 hr nap in the day, as I work at home for myself.
I haven’t had a period for over a month, gained some belly fat quickly with no changes to anything- got rid of it 🙏, but definitely have had to change my workouts- no more hiit for me lol just concentrating on weight training and growithjo walking workouts.
I’m 46 in July - this sucks!!! No man could deal with what us women have to go through - we are the champions 😂💪

My wakefulness and restless legs is always 1am-4am. I take my estradiol in the AM and the Prometrium at night. Should I take both before bed? The interrupted sleep has caused me to lose my productivity and career.

    • @heatherhirschMD
      @heatherhirschMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, try moving estradiol to bedtime OR, you can try asking your doctor if you can cut in half and take half AM, half PM (or the dose simply needs to be increased)

Hi John, I know your comment is from 11 months ago. I have been having severe insomnia for a few months now and have tried everything possible and nothing has worked. Can you please tell me if your mom is doing better with her insomnia? And has she finally found something that has worked? I would really appreciate your response. Thank you.

I am apparently having premature menopause.I am 39 and have very frequent hot flashes, some night sweats in the last 3 months, plus insomnia for the last 2 months. I tried melatonin, valerian, magnesium and they didn't help for sleep. I am now on strong antidepressants that started to help me sleep. I feel frustrated but I am afraid to start HRT now .I know that if I took it and then discontinued it for any reason I will get worse symptoms.

I hope you have found some relief by now, but if not, please see a healthcare provider about HRT. It can be life changing in a good way.

      Is she taking estrogen.
I took for 10 years and I sleep really good. I was on them from 43 yrs to 53 yrs. The doctor forced me to off estrogen and I felt terrible plus I didn't sleep.. so I have been taking a sleeping pull for 20 yrs and that is not good. I am 73 yrs old and I am going back on estrogen so I can feel normal once again, as before. Good luck

Do you know of any treatment for Lichen Sclerosus? It is a horrible and painful condition and the only treatment from most OBGYNs is steroid creams which only thin the skin and make the problem worse.

Question: Dr. Hirsch what if we are getting the 7 hours of sleep and are experiencing the opposite and cannot seem to wake up in the morning?

Glad to head that and thank you! I recommend reading the miracle morning. Move your alarm clock so that you MUST get up and walk to it to turn it off. Brush teeth immediately. This helps. Go to bed with your intention of getting up in the morning. But also if you have the opportunity to sleep- go for it!

Hi Celeste I am currently expecting severe insomnia. I think I am still in perimenopause , this is barely my second month with no period. I have tried everything that has been suggested to me. I have tried melatonin, tart cherry juice, ashwagandha, a whole bunch of teas for sleep and even high doses of magnesium and the only way I have been able to get a decent sleep is with a couple different benzodiazepines. Oh, I forgot to mention Tylenol pm and the olly sleep gummies... if you don't mind me asking, are you still experiencing insomnia and if you are not can you please share with me what your was your solution? I am so desperate, I also have been having severe anxiety ever since I started perimenopause. Everyone keeps telling me to just take the benzos every night but I have already done that and the withdrawals were worst than the insomnia itself...I was on HRT for 5 months and developed blood clots and severe migraines. I just don't win no matter what I do. I really hope you are doing better and if you can please let me know what has helped you?

I am suffering from sleep insomnia due to menopause. No hot flashes , I thought you need to take both?
How long can you take progesterone for? Is it week or every nights? Will you also get menstrual period? My GP prescribed me ostrogel and utrogestan 100mg. Can I take utrogestan just on its own please ? Many thanks , very helpful.
