Jerry was awesome. I will never forget being in RFK stadium. We had seats in the stands behind the stage. Bob Dylan played before the Dead. We yelled Bob's name to try to get him to look up and acknowledge us. He walked off, eyes fixed to the floor, never looking up. Jerry came on and was tuning his guitar. We yelled "Jerry!!!" He stopped tuning, looked up at us, gave is a big smile and a wave. I love Jerry. May his spirit be blessed.

+richard41783 He's still looking and smiling on all of us.. I have some great memories of those time in the 60's. I helped out in a liquid light show back then "Headlights".. Got to see many of the bands..The Dead were the nicest guys..

I was at the RFK GD/Dylan/Tom Petty show, it was so hot outside. I was chilling in the stadium seating behind the stage. I saw Bobby talking to Dylan, one of them fired up a joint, they both shared it, and talked for about 20 minutes. I'll never forget seeing Bob Dylan in leather pants, thinking "why?" it being so dreadfully hot!
Then this really young, blonde, smoking hottie comes up and starts hanging on Bobby, kissing all over him.
Same woman, his wife, I saw in documentary The Other One. She looked like she was about 16 then.
When I looked to the left, right if facing stage, I saw a small office trailer. Through the little window I could see Jerry warming up on an acoustic. Jerry finally emerged from the trailer and walked backstage, then the band went on.
Dylan have departed by the time Jerry arrived backstage.
Never forget Bobby's cute gf! When I watched The Other One I was, like, "that was her!" Bobby's daughters were about the same age in the film as Mrs Weir was at the RFK show. Bobby has 3 daughters? look like clones of his wife.
She, and Bobby, commented in the film she meet Bobby before she was 18, but they waited until she was 18 before they started dating. Sure looked like they were dating at the RFK show! She was, like, a little monkey hanging all over him!

Oh bob Dylan is such a dick, a person can make the excuse of being famous and being bombarded but I've heard countless stories of him being like that. He had in his contract at rothbury that no one could go near him and had this thing made for him so he could walk on and off stage so no one could see him, his show was the worst I ever saw

Ohhh Darn I MISS the sounds/genres Jerry practiced and took to heart, caressing and forming what seemed so utterly simple to an end that dazzled with loving brilliance. Standing there on any given night, post Garcia deluge, the music he created seemed to be engineered to stimulate imagination and calm fears at the same instant. ie: magic.
We all stumble now and then, we all make mistakes, with wisdom, love and trust we have the means to prevail...we are human.

David was always trickling in and shaking his head back and forth while smiling and looking wide-eyed at Jerry. This amused Jerry, which made him laugh and get into the music even more.

When Jerry passed I was 17, living in a 8 bedroom farmhouse in ithaca ny with my tour family, I hitchhiked to arcata & found lots of other people who were looking for our next move, I'll never forget a couple grisman quintent shows that October, one in arcata where a freak lightning storm knocked out power so they handed out flashlights to the front row & played an acoustic first set, then the power came back on just before the first notes of the second, then the next wkd in Eugene was the most pot smoke I ever saw in a concert hall, even david acknowledged it. Looking back I wouldn't want to go back because the truth is those days weren't any better than today, I just have to find a way to live knowing these days will look just as golden someday, it's all about perspective

I bought 4th row seats to see Hunter open for Jerry and John( all acoustic) at Constitution Hall in D.C.,'86, 4 days after they went on sale- no line, just walked up and bought 'em- like JGB there in '84 . Same for Kokomo, Go Ahead and Bobby and the Midnites (all at the Bayou, formerly a small club in DC.)
Oh, the days before Touch of Gray...
From then on it was mail order only for me.
The only good that came out of it besides getting NYE shows tix hand delivered to VA, was the resurgence of the Warlocks...Blessed to have seen the rise and fall of Brent.
Only went to JGB shows after that....
Didn't get to see Grisman til Old and In the Gray (same line up as In the Way, 'cept w/o Dear Jerry.)
Speaking of which flew from TX to DEAR JERRY show 5/15 Columbia, MD..
That's the last I've seen of

Close, but no. John Khan played with Jerry on most of his solo projects, but this is indeed Jim Kerwin, who was playing with the Grisman Quintet around this time frame. There is a video produced by Justin Kreutzmann (Bill's son) that documents several of these shows, and you can see Jim play. I think this recording might be one of the nights in the film. If you get a chance, watch it. The video is titled Grateful Dawg.

Hey thanks for the correction and the tip on the film. Jim Kerwin.....another fine bass player. Never saw Jerry and David together but I caught the Grisman Quintet some years ago when his guitar player was Enrique Corea. One of the finest shows I've ever been to.

@Benjamin Lux A feature film that was released on DVD, hence video. How else are you going to watch it at this point? But, if you want to split hairs on how to describe it, feel free.

My unsolicited story: Never cared much before the Grateful Dead (except Box of Rain and a very few others). Still don’t love GD.
But I always felt Jerry had a glorious voice.
I hadn’t known Jerry’s beyond-brilliant solo career. What a master of the acoustic, steel-string guitar. What an interpreter of songs from Dylan to Irving Berlin to Jimmy Cliff.
