This is a great video on one hand mechanics. I like hearing and watching drills, no matter how basic it may look. Little technique adjustments go a long way. Been getting back into Tennis after some years now. Mechanics need a good refresher! More content on one hand backhands... Please!
As usual, as good as it gets. I love how you guys emphasized treating the 1 hander as almost a 2 hander until the very last second of the move to contact. That is pretty much the essence of the 1 hander, the 2 arm spread done dynamically. The only way to do in dynamically is to have your hands together, a la both hands on the racquet, until the last possible second.
Loved the whole video but the ending was something special. Can you guys do a video (or do you have one already?) about high top-spin/heavy one handed forehands? Cheers!
Thanks for the instruction. I enjoyed your humor at the end of the video. Please don't forget about Lefty technique. Hopefully we'll have more videos in the future

There were some little details in here that just helped me to improve my single-handed backhand. The relax and slingshot was just perfect to remind me to relax to improve power, thanks !!
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial my first though was How to stop making mistakes, but what do you know - you have that covered. I just watched it and it's very helpful.
There are essentially 4 options, in order of difficulty from easiest to most complex to execute: (1.) Respond with a slice backhand, which has a high-to-low swingpath that won't be as encumbered by a high ball, and will give you some time to recover while you respond defensively. (2.) Back up significantly and let the ball drop down past its apex so you can strike it at a more comfortable height. The cost of this approach is that you are giving up a lot of court position, if you don't hit a very strong shot from here you're going to be in trouble on the next ball. (3.) Move in and take the ball on the rise, before it reaches its full height off the bounce. This requires impeccable timing and is a higher risk shot, but it allows for aggressive play. (4.) Take a running leap upwards towards the ball and strike a one-handed backhand in mid-air, a la Denis Shapovalov. This will allow you to physically raise your strikezone vertically so that you can swing aggressively at a high ball. It is (obviously) an advanced technique for very athletic players and carries many additional risks, like potentially injuring your knees, ankles or feet if you mis-time the shot or fall.
I personally like blocking the ball back on high balls. I take a potential high ball and turn it into a short bounce of that makes sense. Same swing path as a low ball. Keeps me on the baseline and takes time my opponent thought they had away. Takes timing and practice though
Thanks a lot guys! I just started to take tennis lessons a few weeks ago and my coach is teaching me double handed backhand. Now I want to try if I am able to do single handed backhand. Absolutely superb! exposition of all elements of how to perfect the one handed backhand. Have been working on exactly this form for over a month by using self feeding. The unit turn of the shoulder plus creating leverage by dropping the racquet head down and pulling the racquet is done beautifully here. I find that getting the correct contact point in front is crucial in getting the ball to go over the net at a height of about 4.5 ft from the ground with a lot of spin. The one thing that could be emphasized a bit more perhaps is the role of the head - i.e in keeping it very still all through the contact point. I find this extremely difficult to do - looking up - messes up the shot completely . Anyways I cannot thank you enough ! for this absolutely wonderful 10 min. instruction video- Have been following your channel for a few years now !. and learning from it a lot!.. The great videos just keep coming! Any possibility of following this with a detailed explanation from Alex as to how a one hand returns aggressively against a big flat server - like Simon. I probably have this in one of the courses already - not sure - but looking to get away from resorting to the chip for defense or the two-handed block for stability. Alex worked it against Fed, so I know there is some timing and technique there that would be fun for all the OHB players to hear. Best!
The most intelligent way to make someone copied one of the skill wise strokes; one-handed backhand! I was already applying that slingshot effect to my slice and it is an element that helps slice to be a transition shot between defence and offence. After watching this wonderful video of you, I recently tried it on my backhand and the result was clumsiness. Maybe I exaggerated it a bit the slingshot effect. My one-handed backhand has consistency matter; it is too good or frame gets it the as well and the ball lands quite sloppy. And sometimes I can not exactly put the ball where I wanted. My forehand never has that issue.
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Thank you for asking. I have single-handed backhand so I appreciate this course. But I also suffer from some serve problems that I have not found anyone to address.
