COMMENT: So, what do you guys think? In today’s work is it worth going through the major label route or simply building up hype online is enough to make a mark?
I'm going the independent route. Both independent and or record labels have pros and cons. Independent Pros ● You get to keep all you earn ● You have to be more creative when you don't have money ● You don't have to pay any money back ● You get to learn how to network ● Your music belongs to you Cons ● It can take a long time to get fans ● Your stuff videos, music etc may come off as amateur ● May not have the money to make merchandise ● Cheap home studio Record labels pros ● Faster networking ● Professional sounding music ● Professional videos Cons ● You have to pay back the money ● Can face rejection I'm sure that there's more just can't think of them atm.
It all depends on what time of music you're doing. Trap involves going a different route than say, boom bap. You can't be a Chicago trap rapper and think griselda is gonna pick you up. Wrong! You can't be a babytron and think TDE gone want you. I think everybody should be independent for a while, build a reputable collection of music and show a major label that you don't need them, show them that they need you. Use your catalog that you built yourself as leverage to get the best deal possible. If that's the route you wanna go.
@@adrenalinestairz5068 any reputable label won't make you pay them back, especially if it's your first record. Never sign a contract that doesn't have a no recoup clause. They're taking a risk on you so that's on them and this is if you fail to sell records and you have to be let go, if it works out, you're gonna be paying a lot of money to them. Unnecessary amounts of money.
a few years ago I realized I am not able to articulate my thoughts into words nearly as well as I thought and then I realized that most people are the same and have no idea how to truly express themselves and suffer greatly from it, I had just started rapping around the same time and writing raps helped me tremendously in becoming articulated. this is why they say art is self expression and is so important, rap has the power to expand the scope and scale of human consciousness
I been rapping for about 11 years and probably have the repertoire of someone 6 months in. I have not even completed a second project. I have done two prison sets adding up to 5+ years over the span of my rap career as it were. I performed in prison for the uhuru sasa and Asian clubs at Oregon state penitentiary. I am a slacker, a drug addict, I am the Comback story waiting to be written. I am willing to write and rap forever man I love it. Well I love the rapping of my completed songs of when they are coming together. Perfectionism mixed with substance addiction has literally had me at a stand still for about two years. I’ve become petrified almost, a fossil, dinosaur. Lol The problem Is I am just good enough that I know if I put the effort in consistently I would make it without a doubt. I’m terrified of becoming recognized and then falling off. I’d rather be never noticed at all it seems then for everyone to know that I was good and then I fkd it off. That being said I need the structural design and accountability that the labels would provide. Plus i am now 30 so sooner the better. Independent is the route I would take if I were more focused and driven and did the work without excuse. Talent ain’t ish without consistent results. Bleezie

There’s a huge part of this video that talks about having a 9-5 job but I feel like for many people, especially artists, having a job can help you financially if you’re broke You can still be consistent about your art even with a mediocre job, if it helps your current situation
Eminem said he almost got fired cuz he didn’t want to listen what music they wanted him to make. “The Way I am” is the song and is one of the greatest songs in rap

With the job thing…I don’t really understand Him making 10/hr doesn’t imply he wasn’t still working 8-10 hour shifts So is he meaning like, don’t get caught up in a company/position where you’ll be actively competing to move up? Cause then you’d end up doing OT and dedicate more energy to the job than music? Cause I just don’t see how “not working a 9-5” is valid advice when that’s legit just a shift

That thumbnail says "Establish yourself first" really make sense coz I wanted to rap long time ago but I have nothing to Rap about even about myself.
Cole is one of my biggest inspirations! 💯

Give me feedback on these lyrics for a rap I recorded u won’t regret it
World Still Turns
Wanna be an MC
Wanna be like shady
Maybe
Let’s see
Backwards E
Will discover me
Only sure of one thing
Nothing stopping me from my dream
I’m regaining my self esteem
Cuz when I rap I’m feeling ectasy
Distracting from life cuz its crazy
It’s amazing
Not goin
Through a phase see
Rap is my game
For more than the fame
I even made a name
The names DK
But in a way
I feel like
This earth
Has turned against me
I got a list of people pissed
At me just cuz I exist
I just wish
Someone would stop this
They wanna throw fist
But I respond with a diss
Cuz when I take a shot I don’t miss
And sometimes I feel heartless
Cuz this heart was broken
Over and over again
But gotta deal with it cuz this is when
People die cities burn
But as u see this world still turns
People don’t get what they deserve
Others get what they don’t earn
People die cities burn
But as u see this world still turns
People don’t get what they deserve
Others get what they don’t earn
Used to wanna be fighter pilot
But I’m colorblind so
Guess I’m gonna have to live without it
And I doubt that
There’s anything I can do about it
And now I realize that
Life is fucked up sometimes
The only thing keeping me alive is my rhymes
It’s my reason for livin and it’s driven me insane
Only thing keeping me from the pain
Cuz I feel like I’m alone in rain
Just these feelins my mind is on
But life still goes on
Like I said I wanna be an MC
I want shady
To discover me
To uncover me
So I show this man
That this fan
Is more than another Stan
Or at least that’s what I plan
If life goes by my demands but
People die cities burn
But as u see this world still turns
People don’t get what they deserve
Others get what they don’t earn
People die cities burn
But as u see this world still turns
People don’t get what they deserve
Others get what they don’t earn
Listen
If things don’t go your way
Listen to what I say
And just know
Things will get better another day
Always be on the move
Nothin is stoppin u
From doin whatever u wanna do
But if someone tries to
Then there an asshole so
Just say fuck u ho
And don’t let them make u feel low
Even though
People die cities burn
But as u see this world still turns
People don’t get what they deserve
Others get what they don’t earn
People die cities burn
But as u see this world still turns
People don’t get what they deserve
Others get what they don’t earn
This shit low-key fire 🔥
Thanks man
I wrote it to this beat
