Thank you for posting this ! Don't know where you find things like this , but sure glad you do ! Great interview about a great movie ! Neil Diamond did a fantastic job , far better than he got credit for ! Lucie Arnaz was just as fantastic , too ! Thank you for this rare find !
Yes he does, and even though he used it to woo the entire world, on anyone else it would be the most annoying sound EVER (think Kardashians) it's called the vocal fry. typically used today by condescending spoiled brats. In days of old it was common with older men, maybe even expected - Sean Connery or in this instance Neil Diamond. In its natural environment it's a sort of laid back, relaxed tone that gives hints of wisdom and thoughtful introspection as opposed to the "can't be bothered, nothing matters, just leave me alone" class. I would love to talk to him, or someone like him, because i've always associated that voice with people who know things. and I am the kind of person who wants to know what you know. I LOVE talking to people or just listening to or watching them. It's the artist in me i guess. i'm always building characters in my head or conducting scenes for some obscure short story i want to write. I don't typically pay a lot of attention to voices, but his was very attractive, not just in singing.. maybe it's that NYC accent, i don't know. i like that he has the ability to soften it, or lift it up a bit when he is trying to make a point or show some kind of emotion.
i think it's a unique personality quirk where a person can be shy and reserved one on one and yet go on stage night after night, performing in front of thousands of people. the total opposite of stage fright. I guess that's his shield. The first time i addressed a crowd - might have been fifteen people - i was an absolute wreck. I'm the most reclusive unsocial creature you'll ever meet. MUCH more talkative on a screen than in person. but someone needed a teacher for a class. And i was the only person who knew the subject. I just don't know what possessed me to actually DO IT!! I used to run from those situations. Later that day I had to do it again in front of a bigger crowd. And the next day I had to it AGAIN (two classes/two days) and the crowd kept getting bigger. A year later.... same thing... The funniest part was after the first classes ended, i felt like i'd bombed and should've been yanked off stage. and yet, people came up to me asking questions. I ended up with another crowd doing another class or just talking to them. That was when I learned to engage the audience, not just run my mouth. Now I am a part time teacher. two classes once a week (i still dont know what possessed me to agree to that!) but my audience is a small group of boys. no more than eight. they're all under the age of 13. I would much rather deal with them than hundreds of people. I don't know if i well EVER do another event where I have to speak to that many people again. I was even paid for it, and it was a decent amount. it was also kind of thrilling to know people actually WANTED to pay money to hear me talk, instead of just looking for a youtube video on the subject. I know the kind of high he gets from performing, the attention and praise... fans... (i had a few people who latched on for a short while. just show up at my house and wait until i got home. or they would recognize me in public.) i only had a microdose of what this man does and it blew my hair back and wrecked me for days. I felt like a wolf who had been plucked out of the woods and thrown into a circus ring.... It took a week to recover from the stress worry and adrenaline. Maybe it depends on the personality. some probably gain a sort of immunity to it the more they do it. OR you get addicted, can't get enough and you end up burning up and being consumed. maybe that's why he outlasted his contemporaries.
Back in 1979 or 1980 when this was filmed, it was not unusual for a celebrity to smoke during an interview. The anti smoking sentiment wasn’t as conscientious as it was in todays culture.
Even when you can't even see her hair, she was Heart stopping .... so gorgeous, my lord .....

Despite the enormity of her parent's careers and the long shadows that they cast, Lucie Arnaz had an impressive career.
I loved neil in the jazz singer one of my favourite movie
Interesting. Love this movie.
Te amo Neil
Lucie Arnaz is going with the flow while Neil Diamond looks very annoyed like he doesn't want to be there.
No, she’s outgoing and he is much more reserved. They mentioned his shyness at the end but said he’s a very nice guy!
What is everyday get sadder and sadder

I love the joke Lucie Arnaz cracks at 4:10
👍👍👍
Wake up Neil.
Why is Neil smoking?
Neil Diamond was a heavy chain smoker until his '50's.
