How to Calculate the Cost of Gas for a Road Trip

Something everyone should know how to do: how to calculate the fuel cost for a road trip. It's very simple to calculate. Here's the information you need:
1. How many miles from your starting location to your destination. Multiply it by 2 (because you have to return home). Add ~50 miles in town for each day you plan to be there and maybe an additional 100 miles for getting off the interstate, getting lost, and pit stops.
2. Find out the average mile per gallon your car gets. Be conservative for your budget!
3. Cost of a gallon of gas. $2.50 is a good budget in
Total Miles / MPG = A
(A)(Gas Price) = Total Money Required

I’m actually planning a trip from the Tulsa adjacent area to Maine and maybe hitting up Canada for fun. Gonna need to save a lot if I wanna detour to Canada but it’s about $700 so maybe saving $1000 will give me a good cushion, more if I do decide to detour to Canada.

$1,000 should put you in great shape! - just as long as prices don't go up too much between now and then. They should, in theory, skyrocket in 2023.
