This song was the last of the first half on the album it was recorded for. As a joke, Tom Petty included a recorded message for CD listeners essentially saying “people listening on vinyl and cassette have to flip the record/tape at this point, so we’re including this random message with a few moments of silence in the middle of the CD version to be fair to them”.
My absolute favorite Thomas tune, now an absolutely INSTANT classic by my hero Jer. So unbelievably good. The horns. The keyboard solo. The absolutely flawless groove. Incredible work!
Always tough to decide whether the ones that sound like the song has always been wanting to be ska are better, or the ones that feel like a truly new take on the song are better. This one, somehow, feels like both? Like you stepped into an alternate universe where this IS the version of the song. Amazing job as always!
