    If most people heard this angelic genius's music, there would be very little of today's popular music (noise).

    I've become addicted to Kevin's channel, after searching for some live performances! The amount of stamina required to play an entire symphony on two hands must be incredible. I'm a huge fan - the playing is beautiful, and for me, just as satisfying to hear as the orchestral versions. I might be biased given my affection for the piano, but I find the clarity of the inner voices is better than with the full orchestra playing. :-) Interestingly, I also really like the live performance, where the performance is a direct reflection of the pianist's interpretation in the moment (really authentic!), and the occasional wrong note reminds me of how difficult and technically demanding this work is. For a studio recording, I like Katsaris' cycle, which is also available on TH-cam.

    This is the third Beethoven/Liszt Symphony that I have heard from Kevin, and I realized I hadn't subbed to his channel. That's been corrected. I put this on while I was doing chores, so I'll have to watch it again where I can see him whilst playing. His whole persona add to the wonderful music. Merci beaucoup et bravo.

    Beethoven is hearing this :) Monumental feat. The symphony that shook heaven and earth.
    ( "According to his [Beethoven's] own statement, it is the greatest work he has written to date. Beethoven played it [the third Symphony] for me the other day and I think heaven and earth must tremble at its performance." ) -Ferdinand Ries

    Listened to this again. I recall a Polish woman, in some documentary, saying that only Polish people can understand Chopin. However, this guy is clearly of Asian descent, but His understanding of Beethoven is outstanding. Will put many a German conductor to shame for their pedestrian performance. I know this symphony very well, and enjoyed every note.

    • @sorim1967
      @sorim1967 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just outrageous racist comments. As if its a surprise to be Asian and play Beethoven well. There are Asian and German musicians that are excellent and those that are pedestrian. Just like no country has a shortage of racists at heart. And btw, how do you know that this pianist is not several generations, e.g. British? By the shape of his eyes? And called "Kevin"?

    • @malcolmabram2957
      @malcolmabram2957 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@malcolmabram2957it’s the very definition of racism. Just be aware of it if it was not intended.
      Regarding Poland, that woman was referring to the years of suffering the Polish people have been through and that transpire through Chopin’s compositions. At the very core, not everyone can readily identify with it. Although there is a plane of universalism to which you could identify, you won’t be able to pierce all of it if you are not of Polish descent.

    Well played. But the repeat in the first movement mustn't be ommited. I know many conductors used to do it in the 60's and 70's but it just shows their complete lack of structural understanding.
    If you ommit the repeat the movement's architecture shifts completely towards the development section. When played with repeat the exposition, development and recapitulation and coda are more or less of equal lenght.
    That's what Beethoven planned for and it must not be ignored.

    • @borisbrinkmann
      @borisbrinkmann 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 'tour de force' is physically demanding enough...!
      Maybe he will include the repitition when he gathered more experience in performing the work.
      Also possible that he was afraid that it might be less interesting than in the orchestral version for the audience.

    Wunnderbar gespielt. Nicht nur von der Partitur her, sondern vom Gefühl. Was ich persönlich bedauer, es wird auf einem Steinway gespielt. Da gibt es weitaus bessere Pianos, die eher für Beethoven geeignet sind. Ist meine persönliche Meinung.
