This is excellent!! Your reaction to the video is hilarious. We didn't ask any of these questions at the time it came out...we were just THRILLED to see Rick Springfield in heavy rotation on MTV. I was in middle school and my Daddy took me to see him twice back in the early 80's. I got front row seats and thought I would die from happiness when he leaned down and squeezed my hand. 😍😆 My bedroom was covered in posters of Rick Springfield.
Rick Springfield is a dj on Sirius radio he explained this song he wrote it for his girlfriend now wife of many years as he was touring and never home he's on 80s on 8 on Sirius his music is awesome and I love all his songs
"Love hurts when only one's in love." Everybody loves "Jesse's Girl", but this is my favorite song by Rick Springfield. Also, I miss the old MTV when they played these videos non-stop all day long.
@@steveyoung2317 I had a huge crush on him when I was little. Loved his music too. My Dad who loved the Stones, Hendrix & The Doors liked his music too. He was(is) genuinely talented.

When Rick Springfield lived in Australia he was in a band called Zoot. They did a brilliant cover of Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles,You should look it up, Love from Australia 🦘🦘🦘 xxx
Back story: he was dating his now wife (37 yes!). He got paranoid that she was dating while he was going around touring the world giving concerts. She wasn't cheating, but he wrote the song because of his paranoia! He's 73, still writing, recording and performing 100+ concerts a year. Voice sounds great. Highly underrated, he had 17 top 40 records during the '80s when the radios actually had 40 records in rotation.
Rick was a soap opera star. His hit, Jesse's Girl, which you have already listened to, is one of the all-time most popular songs and is a favorite on classic rock stations.
fun fact. Rick Springfield had a short lived animated series in the early 70's called Mission Magic and back then he had Australian accent since he was born in Australia. over the years he work on to loose it. he also did some acting too as well.
All great. One that gets overlooked is "The Great Lost Art of Conversation" from the "Hard to Hold" soundtrack. From this LP (Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet), I've always liked "The American Girl" and "How Do You Talk to Girls".
😊😊 I looked like the Stan video where he had posters of Em all over the wall I had a wall in my room that I covered completely With Rick Springfield posters😕😊
Same!! 😆 Wall to wall posters of Rick Springfield. I saw him twice in Dallas. First with Quarterflash, and the next time with Corey Hart as the opener. Good times.
reminds me of the lines from 'Mendocino' by the Sir Douglas Quintet: "Fast-talkin' guys with strange red eyes/Have put things in your head/It got your mind a-wond'rin'..."
Very catchy song. Rick is one of the hookiest writers in the business, hooks that will stick in your head all days. He was VERY popular back in the day. All the girls were mad about him, including me. Had posters of him all over my walls when I was in high school.
This one takes me back to my earlier teens- My life-long best friend was so in love with him- I thought he was cute too... but bruh, lol-my bestie was in love! 😍🤩lol
I think this song is about a guy, who doesn't realize that he's not in a relationship anymore, LOL. 2nd verse, she's moved off to the big city.... so, she basically graduated school and moved away. Dude's still saying, "I hear you are seeing a bunch of guys... i don't like that"
I love Rick Springfield, he was so sexy! He played Dr. Noah Drake in General Hospital! In this song: He’s still a n love with the girl and is warning her off the slick big city guys!❤❤
MTV made him look like a stalker. The video directors were often wrong in their interpretations of the artists songs. Rod Stewart spoke to that himself in an interview.
Go back to his early Aussie stuff.. "Hookey Jo" or "Speak to the Sky" or even when he was in a band in the 60s called Zoot and the heavy rock version cover of the Beatle's "Eleanor Rigby".
Rick wrote the song for his girlfriend at the time (and future wife) because he was worried about what she was doing while he was out on the road touring
There's a song with the same name as this, just like a lot of songs ( have the same name). It's by Ronnie James Dio... Don't Talk to Strangers. I'm sure you have probably listened to Dio in your videos but I haven't watched them all. He also Replaced Ozzy in Black Sabbath for a time.
Yeah, you are both kind of right and both kind of wrong. Here is the meaning of the song, from Rick's mouth ... "The song 'Don't Talk To Strangers' was [about] my girlfriend who became my wife. I was screwing around on the road, and I was worried that she was doing the same thing while I was away. So it was my paranoia to her: I'm getting laid, but don't you go do the same thing, because it'll really upset me."
Yes. They are going the wrong direction. Where is all the Hard Rock and Metal? It,s been months since they did Metallica and Megadeth. It,s been more 60s and 70s soft Rock and pop for some time now. Nothing wrong with that. But it,s now getting dominant. A band that is largely forgotten, is UFO. So many great songs. More Uriah Heep, Rainbow, Dokken, Night Ranger, Whitesnake, Savatage, Testament, Y & T, Ozzy Osbourne solo. Lots of Great 70s and 80s bands to choose from.
This is the guy complaining that his girlfriend is talking to other guys. I guess they are a stranger when she first meets someone new! So if she never talks to strangers she’ll never meet a new guy!
He was a much better singer than he was acting on General Hospital. To see how big Rick Springfield was back then, check out Dave Grohl's "Sound City" documentary.

I hope Brad and Lex can get on top of this, as it could really hurt their brand.
OMG "should be ex boyfriend but apparently current boyfriend"😅😂😂 that line is gonna stick with me for a while. Lex almost never listens to the lyrics and Brad always takes the lyrics a bit too literally word for word
He wrote this song about his then gf (now wife) when they were living in two different cities, and as he was a womanizer, he was paranoid she gf could fall for someone else.
Rick Springfield detested being characterized as bubble gum rock. He was a serious musician who happened to be gorgeous. My middle school self, my friends and other girls like us were part of the reason he got slapped with that moniker. It didn't help matters that while his career was on hold due to legal reasons, he took acting jobs to pay the bills. His role on General Hospital as Dr. Noah Drake made him super popular at the same time the Working Class Dog album was released, and added to the whole sex symbol image. But shortly thereafter I discovered Motley Crue and Ozzy and that was the end of bubblegum rock for me.
*Why does TH-cam need to block the video with Rick's "Working Class Dog" LP cover? At least use the LP this tune came from, "Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet". Both are great LP's and they need to react to more Rick Springfield tunes. The "Human Touch" and "Love Somebody" live versions would be a great place to start. This live appearance on the 2006 Daytime Emmy Awards would be even better:* th-cam.com/video/epo9eaz38HA/w-d-xo.html
I liked his music when I was in High school, but now it just seems weird that almost all his songs were really a 30 something YO man singing about high school level romance stuff. Everything is about "girls" and his romantic insecurities.
A lot of his lyrics were written when he was younger, so that doesn't surprise me at all. His music career was on hold for a long period of time during his mid to late 20's for legal reasons. So when he hit the scene again early 80's, it was perfect for the demographic that listened to his music.

Sometimes a song is just a song. Lyrics don't always mean anything or at least when they do it's just telling a story.
Exactly! It's just a line that led to a lyrical story. It's not that deep.
