This is currently one of my most favourite pastimes: watching an obviously knowledgeable and talented player and lover of music react with great appreciation to the music I have enjoyed for 42 years and counting. Thanks very much for taking this journey with us, CB. PS - The reggae riffs found in Rush's early '80's albums were very much inspired by the work of the Police from the same period - so if you don't know the Police, they should be added to your future reactions list.
I'm not a guitar player so Idk how technically difficult Lifeson's solos are, but they sometimes have a sort of terrifying quality . Especially on the studio version, this song's Carribean/Reggae-ish traits give it a sing-song kind of flavor. But then Alex Lifeson comes in like a flaming meteor shower heading for major cities. Or something. Is he even listening to the song? What's he thinking? He's bends time inside out on the record.
Greatest band of all time lyrically and musically all 3 are virtuosos on their instruments!!!! Any Rush is good Rush try Xanadu live 81,big money, lock and key turn the page mission, marathon lock and key half the world, driven, Animate, cut to the chase, roll the bones, dreamline, bravado, mystic rythems, vital signs, subdivisions Tom Sawyer, red barchette, YYZ live in Rio,,,,,,,,,,,,i could go on and on and on and on and on, love the review !! Keep the Rush coming
I know it's hard to know when to do a live or studio version, but this one is better on the studio cut. This one seems a little slower than the studio version.
You’re getting the RUSH fever! lol lol Luv it when reactors see how deep this band is an how they take you through a song, an album… a career Best 3 piece in history an I’ll bet you will never see a 3 piece like this again
So eventually someone in this group of Rush fans is gonna tell you the fact that we even got Geddy Lee in this lifetime is truly amazing he released a book and talks all about his life with the band and with his family and both of his parents were in the concentration camp that's where they met and got married Eventually For the fact that we got to have geddy lee in our lifetime to me is like an utter miracle..You're probably ready for LA Villa Strangiato
You have a great ear; not because you love Rush (although that helps!), but just how quickly you pick up on what is happening in their music - that's not easy.
You are now hereby authorized (no ... obligated!) to listen to the other two songs from Rush's 1982 album, Signals: Analog Kid New World Man You're welcome! 😊
I'm a fellow bass player. Geddy is my favorite bassist and Rush is my favorite band. But my next favorite bassist is Chris Squire from Yes. You should give them a listen as well.
As for songs I would go with Heart of the Sunrise or Starship Trooper. Geddy played bass (Chris had passed by then) when Yes was admitted to the rock hall of fame. Geddy has said that Yes is the ONLY band that he and Alex would wait in line overnight to see.
As a drummer introduced to "prog" rock when my years of existence was still in single diget years I was drawn to Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd ,music my brother ( 10 yrs my senior) listen to plus he had a drumset setup in the formal room of the house where was not intended for children he and I were allowed permission to enter for access to the kit.I influenced my said brother also played the kit, young enough to still possess a sponge like brain I absorbed all of this with J. Bonham teaching me how to "talk" after disruptions in that paradigm I discovered Rush and Neil Peart and like Rosetta Stone I learned a new way to talk.Lovung your insight into what I consider the 4 Cs' of any art medium The creativity of composition and the clarity of complication.
Alex in song solos are so unique and creative. I don't know how to describe it, most guitarist try to make their solos sound sweet and pretty to the ear, with Alex his solos are very unexpected, has tension but still melodic to the ear. I was hoping you did the studio version of this song. I find the audio mix of this video to be a bit muddy. In the studio recording, you hear every detail of Geddy's melodic bass line and Neil's finesse on the hi-hat and drums. However, the video version the ending of the song is extended. More Rush is always a good thing😂🤣😂
You have to check out Show don’t tell, The big money and, a lot older song, Circumstances. These are 3 amazing bass songs that are simply magical and out of this world. Nasty, nasty grooves brother. Check one of those next. You won’t regret it I promise 😂😂😂
You have to listen to "The Camera Eye", Neil wrote and compared the cities of New York and London, great lyrics, drums, guitar, and base solos, all in all a great song.
One of my fav Rush songs! It has a great groove and Alex's solo is 🔥. You mentioned Muscle cars. Check out Red Barchetta from Exit Stage Left. Also, Dinner with Rush to see what a brotherhood these guys have. Cheers
From one bass player to the other, please please please check out the song Secret Touch from this same show, Snakes and Arrows Live. It's a Geddy flamenco-style festival and would LOVE to get your take on it!!!!!!!
Speaking of muscle cars, when this song was only two years old, I regularly played it loudly as my friends and I cruised up and down the main drag in our suburban city an hour's drive west of Toronto. We did it in my very first car - a midnight blue '75 Camaro with a transplanted 350cc Chevy truck engine that sported a Holley Carb, 4-bolt main, headers, shift kit, and Cragar SST dish mags. All of which is to safe that I can appreciate your choice of analogy!
I love your reactions. I always learn something new, which is a feat considering I’ve listened to Rush for 40+ years! Thank you so much for reigniting my love for my favorite band!
Vapor Trails was Rush’s first album produced after Neil Peart’s five year personal hiatus following the death of his wife and daughter. One Little Victory sums up Neil’s never give up attitude.
This song and Analog Kid are my two favorite tracks from Signals which came out in 1982. My very first concert was that tour in 82 when I was 15 years old Ticket price? $12.50
Thanks for this reaction. Great demo's on the bass. I appreciate when you pick up the bass and emphasize a nuance you found in the song. I am really enjoying your Rush reactions. There is a great companion track to Digital Man, its called The Analog Kid. Check that one out when you have some time.
A reactor who's a bass player aaand vibin on Rush?! I'm here for that. Long, long time Rush fan here and fellow bassist shoutin at you from Toronto. Subscribed.
🤪 YYZ Live in Rio or we RIOT! 🤗 I know people. ☺️ We'll do it too! 😜 Give the people's what they want! WE WANT YYZ LIVE IN RIO! 😌 Won't take no for an answer..... 🤭😁🥰🐰
Great reaction Church Boy!! Every time I see a new Rush reaction from you, I note the song, and every time I say "he's going to LOVE the bass lines in this!!" THAT is what you get with Rush - amazing, groovy bass, atmospheric guitars, with a shred wherever needed (honestly, Alex Lifeson is the KING of atmosphere to me! Always plays exactly what the song needs!), and killer drumming from Neil (RIP) - not always crazy, but with tasteful fills & complexity - again, always in service of the song! You're truly beginning to see - 3 monumental, expert level musicians, in one band, together for 40 years, making some of the greatest progressive/hard/synth rock we've ever known! Three humble dudes from Canada, eh! Cheers!
You might enjoy the Drumeo video of Brandon Toews playing 175 RUSH songs in 25 minutes. He absolutely KILLS the drums on it. The video is Drumming To Every RUSH Song Ever! It is AMAZING!
That boogie line was the first thing I learned on bass when I was 12. In the key of C. Was great to see your delight in hearing it. Agree with some of the other comments here. You'd really enjoy Analog Kid. Also would love to see your reaction to Red Barchetta & New World Man. You would dig them all!
So happy you did Digital Man live over studio version. This is top 3 Alex solo IMO. There was a Neil drum cam video of this song that was incredible but has been taken down☹️. Love how you picked up on slow down before explosive solo. Keep up the great reactions! See you in Rio for YYZ!
Take it to church - Great reaction! RUSH live usually sounds like the studio version. But in this case, they are very different. On the album track, Neil's drum fills are crazy (never the same twice), the tempo is faster and the mix is different. The bass got washed out on this recording. As many have suggested, you may want to go back and listen to the studio version. (I can't believe I'm saying this...90% of the time the live version is the go-to. Thank you for playing my recommendation, Church Boy 💕 I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
great reaction as a fellow brother in the lord, i don't if that gets me ahead of the line, or buying u that bass does it, lol but try hemispheres sometime studio version, just be thrilled how much bass in your face ur going to get the entire song, but all of the music and lyrics is a short 18 minute masterpiece for its time in the seventies, and always will be. great ear and nice playing that groove God bless
It seems like Red Barchetta should be next, the R30 live version has a great bass outro as expected, secret touch, or Alien Shore would be some newer material I would also recommend cheers and Rush on!
Wish you would have done the studio version. This tempo is much slower here in this vid and there are parts edited out from studio track in this live performance.
If you want a Geddy Lee bass, get either the custom shop, the "crafted in Japan, or the Made in America versions. More expensive but far better quality.
Love you did the live version...but how bout this...do the studio version of a particular song and then do the live version immediately after...I suggest Red Barchetta, the n the live version from R30🤘
you know what's cool about Rush? when one of them plays a solo, the other two are doing it also!!!
The Analog Kid grows up to be a Digital Man! 🤔 Who eventually becomes a New World Man! 🤗 3 of my favorite Rush songs! 🥰🐰
Totally agree and I don't think everyone one makes the connection, unless like me, you are that Analog Kid striving to be a New World man.
@@Scottracine68 ☺️ #Facts
And they all need to handled with "Kid Gloves"
I love the irony of analog being older and digital being newer, yet the analog is a kid and the digital is a man.
@@robertcabansag5222 😏 I see what you did there.... 🥰🐰
That bass and guitar break is prob my fav mid track rush jam. Kills!

No question why Rush is the greatest 3 piece rock band in rock history
Just three piece???
I'm not a guitar player so Idk how technically difficult Lifeson's solos are, but they sometimes have a sort of terrifying quality . this is one of Alex's best solos.
This is such a good version of Digital Man.
Nah. Slower. Subpar mix. It’s not a good one to react to. The album cut is much better. But hey. Still great but not my choice.
Every Rush fan ever..on almost every song..."That was Fire right there!"
Digital Man's got the best bass line you've ever heard in ages. They all shine in this song, actually. I want to hear you play those bass riffs.....

One of the best bass lines ever! Great song!❤ Studio version is a must hear for sure. Makes my fingers hurt just listening to it 😅.
🤣🤣
second that call for the studio version, awesome production

Listen to studio tracks then the live version after to see how closely they replicate their songs. Just a suggestion

Yup, Analog Kid is next. Alex goes OFF! Shreds it.
Leave that thing alone. Incredible bass line!!!!
Check out Rush’s live performance of the song “Driven” from their Rush In Rio live DVD!
The 2nd song of the show - opened with Limelight and flowed seamlessly into Digital Man

I am loving your journey through Rush. An awe inspiring band that had a huge musical influence on me!
I hope you deep dive into more Rush! There's so many great songs to explore and your reactions are terrific!
Driven live in Rio.Great song,great bass solo👍
You have to listen to "The Camera Eye", Neil wrote and compared the cities of New York and London, great lyrics, drums, guitar, and base solos, all in all a great song.
Thanks again for the Rush and your takes on the bass! Don't forget Witch Hunt (studio) or Vital Signs down the road ;)

You mentioned Muscle cars.
Check out Red Barchetta from Exit Stage Left.
Also, Dinner with Rush to see what a brotherhood these guys have.

I saw them on that Snakes & Arrows twice in Cincinnati in June & again when they returned in September.
Definitely check out the companion song, The Analog Kid. Alex shreds a killer solo in that one too. Cheers!
From one bass player to the other, please please please check out the song Secret Touch from this same show, Snakes and Arrows Live. It's a Geddy flamenco-style festival and would LOVE to get your take on it!!!!!!!

Now that you've done digital man. You gotta do the Analog kid .

Loving your Rush journey...Keep it up!
Love the muscle car drivin slow analogy 👏
Love your reactions! And plus your plan base to give us a feel of what they’re playing in a little theology. I love it.

I've really been enjoying watching your Rush journey 👍 Keep em coming
So happy you did Digital Man live over studio version. This is top 3 Alex solo IMO. There was a Neil drum cam video of this song that was incredible but has been taken down☹️.

See you in Rio for YYZ!
Rush is one of a few bands that are just as good live as they are on the studio version.
There, I said it. 😁
Geddy is always interesting to listen to. Never boring.
Rush army on duty! Try Red Barchetta next time!
Please for the third time 🙂 Headlong Flight - clockwork angels tour
You make me wanna join your church if you play those bass lines....
Limelight studio version is essential. Maybe the most well known Rush song besides Tom Sawyer
When it comes to Signals, as much as I like Digital Man I'm more of an Analog Kid myself. 😊
While you’re on this tour, check out “Natural Science” if you haven’t yet.

You play very well.
Love the pirates cap !!!
Personally I'd recommend the studio version - best version by far IMHO
Geddy abuses his bass so much, The strength in his right hand is insane, two and half hours of playing live and he is still going strong.
Check Grand Desings. Wild base riffs from beginning to end. Geddy is a beast....
Wish you would have done the studio version. This tempo is much slower here in this vid and there are parts edited out from studio track in this live performance.
