    This is SUCH an informative video with action steps. So many of the other videos just talk about the importance of SEO's but don't give practical action related steps. Thank you!!

    Great info thank you. I am a jeweller and worried about rouge business stealing my image to put on their fake website. If I make my images so visible to Google how can I protect them?

    Can I ask, is a pipe symbol (|) ok to use in the image file name, to separate key phrases, as opposed to a dash (-) I have watched numerous videos on youtube and some advice to use the pipe symbol and other advise to use the dash symbol. Thanks so much in advance!

    Great video, you helped me a lot, Thank you! Question: For a file name (image name) can some words be written with a capital letter and some not or better to avoid mixing? What will you recommend and how important is that? Thank you.

    This is great! Curious… if you change the title in Wordpress after you upload the pic into the media section but before you upload it to the page - does that work? Or do you really have to change it in the computer before you add it to the media file on Wordpress?

    • @LoveAtFirstSearch
      @LoveAtFirstSearch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, changing the file name in the media library before inserting it will work!

    Very intesresting, thank you. Do you know if Metadata attached within the pictures itself plays a role in the ranking ? Or does only ALT text is used by Search engines ? I have difficulty to find an answer on this question. Thank you.

    Pure gold! Yeah, I'm totally guilty of the 1545348y53405 file name AND the final final final.🤣 Question: I use underscore between words often, does the dash make a difference?

      That's my Q too, I just used spaces, is it important to use hyphens?

    • @LoveAtFirstSearch
      @LoveAtFirstSearch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, I spend enough years of designing to know the "final-FINAL" version!
      Underscore & dash are both fine!

    • @LoveAtFirstSearch
      @LoveAtFirstSearch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're both OK, as long as the words don't get smooshed together 👍

    Hi! Thanks for the quick and informative info! I was wondering how important you think it is to change image URLs? Our website has a large portfolio of our images and I'm working on alt text and captions, but I realized that all of the image URLs are really long and mostly a series of numbers. I saw on some Google SEO documentation that this URL path is important. Do you think it's worth the effort? Thanks again!

    • @LoveAtFirstSearch
      @LoveAtFirstSearch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It makes a difference, but not a major one that would require a massive renaming overhaul. Just think about it for the images you upload moving forward!

    Great and thorough video thank you! I think in Squarespace the alt text is the caption so I write it there and hide the caption.

    • @LoveAtFirstSearch
      @LoveAtFirstSearch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES, in most Squarespace themes alt text & caption are the same, then you can choose to turn off the caption visibility. Thanks!

    A wonderful video, thank-you so much Meg for sharing. I am curious does anyone use their brand name when naming product images for a website.

    • @LoveAtFirstSearch
      @LoveAtFirstSearch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can, but it doesn't really help with search from cold traffic. I recommend utilizing that space for descriptive keywords -- people who know your brand already know where to find you!

  • @andreasvomdorp7852

    Very informative video, thank you! I still have a question though. Where and how can you add alt text to your photos? Curiously, all the videos and tutorials I've read so far don't include this vital piece of information. Except the tutorials that talk about WordPress. There is a specific "Alternative Text" space on WP where you can input your alt text. But, in your video, you mentioned Shopify and Pinterest. So I imagine it should be possible to add alt text directly to an image, outside and independently from WordPress. Gimp and Photoshop also have boxes where you can add metadata. But none of those boxes say "alt text" or "alternative text". The boxes available in Gimp (and also Photoshop) are "document title", "author", "author title", "description", "description writer", "keywords", "copyright notice" and "copyright URL". But there is no box for "alt text". I've looked all across the web and youtube, but unfortunately I haven't found the answer yet. Nobody seems to see a need to mention it.

    • @LoveAtFirstSearch
      @LoveAtFirstSearch  ปีที่แล้ว

      You add the alt text where you upload the photo, like in the Wordpress settings. It’s not in the photo settings. Google doesn’t look at the photo settings.

    This advice is amazing, I'm learning so much from you, Meg! Thank you so much! Which WP plugins would you recommend for image compression/optimization, please?

    • @LoveAtFirstSearch
      @LoveAtFirstSearch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This one's tough because sometimes image compression plugins don't play well with caching plugins, but in general I like tinypng, Robin, ewww and Smush

    Really great info. I've read, elsewhere, that you should make sure that your images are double the width of a column for retina display. Is this true?

    • @LoveAtFirstSearch
      @LoveAtFirstSearch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My understanding is that as long as the resolution is high, you don't need to upload giant images. Otherwise our pages will take forever to load!

    • @JaiSequoia
      @JaiSequoia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LoveAtFirstSearch people I might be confused by “ high resolution” maybe you could be more specific? When I think high resolution I don’t think images on the web that need to be 72dpi. I’m sure you get what I’m saying.

    • @LoveAtFirstSearch
      @LoveAtFirstSearch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JaiSequoia You're right, and I appreciate your input!
      But I also try not to get too "in-the-weeds" about tech, because then explaining what DPI is to a non-tech audience could take me on yet-another digression 😂

    • @andreasvomdorp7852
      @andreasvomdorp7852 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JaiSequoia I don't understand much about images or image SEO, but according to a tutorial that I read, dpi is irrelevant for the web. It is relevant only for printing.
