Imagine spending weeks, if not, months, working your ass off, animating a video for your favourite band, possibly not sleeping because of the sheer levels of passion, dedication, and love you're putting into it, just for a video that somebody made on the fucking sims to be chosen instead of your hard work lmfao
Theres something very sad to me about things disappearing online. The idea that one day youtube will shut down and all of the videos will be lost is terrifying
Hello There. I was actually One of the people who submitted Something In the Contest It Was A Animation for the Song Nude it was a Character i Drew it was falling through the black void in slow motion while the song was playing while the song progresses colors started to appear as the character continued falling it made rainbows of colors in the background as the lyrics appeared, the video ended with the character disappearing after the song ended I was in college in 2008 when i did this i had notes of what it looked like it was destroyed when our house was on fire, years later when Moon Shaped Pool Was coming out i thought i would recreate it with the song daydreaming but it never went through and i shoved it away it sucks because the Nude Animation was special to me i wanted to recreate it. This was a great video from start to finish
@@kevinkelly7135 I Am And I'm Proud that I joined the Contest When I first heard Nude it blew me Away And I was in tears when I first listened to it so that's what my inspiration was to make a animation like that
@inrainbowsfan94 nude is my favourite song by radiohead so i totally understand that. im not very artistic, but just listening to nude evokes so much imagery, not surprised you made a good video out of it.
Thank you man. It's really cool to see comments from people involved with the contest. That's so sad to hear about you losing your notes for it in the house fire too. If it means anything, if you did decide to ever recreate it again, just for the sheer sake of it, as a passion project or something, I'd totally be down to watch it. And I'm sure there's other people here who would as well.
One thing I really like about that Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailer Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief video is that though it was made by a massive celebrity in the U.K (Richard Ayoade), it was treated the same as every fans submission, showing how they improved since the discourse over the in Rainbows video drama
There's this weird fan-made Radiohead channel that did an Alan Watts/Radiohead mash-up... there's like 5 videos on it of homemade Radiohead music videos... the channel is 15 years old so the quality is toaster-level... but they also have a playlist of other fan made videos from that in rainbows era... an interesting rabbithole to explore
i definitely see how the winning music videos were unrelated animations. it honestly seems like the type of meme you would get in fiver. and they just send you a premade video
The Tinker Tailer vignette is great. It was directed by Richard Ayoade, who plays Moss in the IT crowd and directed the movie Submarine. Kind of reminds me visually of the Karma Police music video. Some of the other Moon Shaped Pool vignettes were directed by established directors as well, like Yorgos Lanthimos, and friends of the band like Adam Buxton.
I'm not sure why the Wolfgang Jaiser/Claus Winter Videotape entry isn't on the RH TH-cam, but just want to say that it's in the Radiohead Public Library. Thom highlighted it as a favorite in his curation. He said: "This video was a competition winner, we were very lucky to have all these genius videos come through, and for some reason this one floored me completely, the simplicity and the elegance of the idea and it even made me see and hear the song in a different way. Hats off to them." Anyway, great video! Super cool to look up and highlight the other contest entries.

This wasn't the only In Rainbows contest get scrubbed: the site hosting 100s of Reckoner and Nude remixes disappeared completely without any winners ever being announced.
Yeah, it definitely is. The remixes were all over the place in terms of genre, quality and interpretation of the songs and the site allowed you to freely browse all other submissions by popularity. They hosted all of this themselves, they weren't relying on SoundCloud or anything like that. There were quite a few high quality and experimental versions of Reckoner that I've never been able to track down again on yt or soundcloud. I wonder if anyone even has a screenshot of this thing.
Does anyone remember the video for "All I Need" that featured rabbits stoking boilers and doing mechanical stuff, then they pan back and there's a rabbit boss who's firing the whole thing up as a giant robot that starts marching through a forest??
This isn't quite exactly prevalent to the video but there is a video that was used as a "fanmade" mv for the basement recording of Weird Fishes. I'm sure you've heard of it, but the reason why I mentioned it in the first place is because of how beautifully perfect the video and lyrics were connected. Unfortunately the most recent reupload doesn't have the full credit and I've completely forgotten what the title of the source material is but I know it was made by Minha Kim.

It appears that none of the winners had the issue of being pre-made? The ones that were got knocked out in the semifinal stage. Still sucks though.
At least I really hope that forum post is not referring to the 15 Step video that won.
Also, Semifinalists were determined by views and user votes, so it's on the platform's end.
