Hey, I'm Jesse, I'm a professional private tutor and founder of Simplified Study Tutoring. Congraulations Jesse (despite I always thought your scores from last year was AMAZING and I would defintely NOT be resitting if I have overall of 84 NO WAY!) I am going to sit for mine next year as next sem is my final sem and I work full time plus a family to look after so it's not so realistic for me to either enrol into a full prepartion course (time) or preparing + studying +working +running a family (time +resources). Your videos are perfect for students like us! Please keep doing all the tutorials and I am looking forward to starting my prep journey. Much grace. ^_^

@@jesseosbourneS1 and S2 were pretty close to what I expected them to be. My S2 score matched up with my ACER practice tests, I think it was more accurate because it was in the mid-60s which would have a greater sample to pool from for automated scoring, compared to yours which probably had less people achieving marks above high 70s. Just my theory.
My S3 was 59 which was lower than my goal, I was hoping for mid-60s, so that was the only thing I was a bit disappointed in. But i'm NSB so still pleased to have achieved what I have, and a lot of it is credited to your videos. Overall definitely feeling proud of the effort I put in to get here :))

Ah that's true, I never thought about the relative sample size for the different score bands. You could be onto something there. Would also explain why they are generally a lot tighter (ranging by only 2-3 points) int he middle whereas the upper end bands seem to have wider ranges. Not that I saw many of those in my practice this time haha

Congrats on the fantastic score Jesse! I’m pretty happy overall with my score, I got S1 67/ S2 73 / S3 60, overall 66 unweighted. First time sitting with around 2 months prep and I wanted to see how well I could do without paying for any (overpriced) prep courses. I was feeling terrible about S3 coming out, but your help was invaluable in how I performed on the day. I can’t thank you enough and best of luck with applications! :)) I’ll be going over your vids for the September sitting!

Well done mate. I'm proud to say that I at least passed, but only 59 overall so that won't cut it for any med schools despite my 6.85GPA. Worth the attempt though and many thanks for all your vids, I definitey was able to make it through section 3 (62) thanks to your crash courses. Pity that my degree is outdated by next year and that this was my only shot at it. All the best for you and I'm sure you'll get in!
Congrats on your results, Thomas but sorry to hear it won't be competitive. I like to think of GAMSAT and the experience itself as a personal achievement rather than an academic/professional one. I'm sure you've taken a hell of a lot from the experience and you're rightly coming away proud! The 10 year rule is definitely a pain, but what you do in the next 10 years is up to you and I'm sure the GAMSAT experience will have helped in shaping that in some way. Hey Jesse, thanks so much for your videos - helped me so much with S3. I went in for the first time from a science background, but I’m definitely a lot more comfortable with English/reading comprehension so I didn’t really prepare for those. Copped a 74/59/71, but I had a bit of panic during my essays and barely wrote 500 words total. Guess it’s time to hit those essays regularly :(

Congratulations Jesse! I sat the GAMSAT in March intending for it to be a practise run for September. Applying in the UK and the cut offs for interview were 59 last year unweighted. I got S1- 65 S2- 76 S3- 54 Overall weighted 63 Unweighted 65 so will be using this score to apply and will probably get an interview. Really happy with my result as I was studying full time, working 2 jobs as a single mum and the only revision I did was watching your crash courses for a week before the sitting so really proud of myself. Tempted to re-sit in September with more preparation just to see if I can improve as I found S3 so difficult! My reaction video would have been interesting, I started crying haha!
Incredible stuff, Becky! I have huge respect for those juggling GAMSAT with parenting. Throw in full time study and work and you are an absolute superhuman. Congratulations on some fantastic scores, hopefully you'll be able to see an interview offer this year! :)

Hey Jesse, this was my first GAMSAT and I got an overall score of 75 which blew me away. I must thank you for all your effort as you were certainly a massive help in this achievement, in both section 2 and 3!

@@jesseosbourne I am finishing my last semester of bachelor of medical research here at utas, so since I’m in this course I don’t require GAMSAT or UCAT for entry into utas medicine (places are allocated based on performance in medical research degree alone).
However I would like do do my medicine degree interstate. I have put uni melb as my first gemsas preference, followed by Deakin so hopefully I snag an interview at one of those places :)

I got 100 for S3 without any prep and seeing your dropoff from 2021 to 2022 is crazy nerve wracking. I may end up needing to keep using my 2020 score (82 overall) but hopefully I can beat it.

Hey Rosie, I recycled the ACER material and then used the des O’Neil practice tests from the des books for my final exam simulations :)
70/82/51 for a first time sitting. The S3 would be unimpressive to most but I haven't been inside a science classroom since high school (10 years ago) and I could only study part time for this while taking a full study load during the summer uni trimester. My goal was a 50+ S3 for this sitting and I got that. I would credit you for every answer I did get right. As my unweighted score is okish for a rural student I will apply this cycle while also preparing to sit the September exam. Fingers crossed! And good luck to everyone for you application/study goals🙂

I'd be congratulating anyone on their first sitting with a 51 in S3, Peter! Let alone the monster of a s3 we saw and knowing that you've had to bridge a 10 year gap to revisit these areas. You've got a fantastic unweighted score for rural applications. Keep grinding away at your GPA and you've got a good shot. Congrats on some absolutely ripping scores! :)

@@emailaddress3847 Initially I was making my way through Khan academy. But then I realized with the time I needed to set aside to do well enough at uni to try and get as much as possible out of the final year weighting boost (I need it) my gamsat study time was limited and I needed to focus on high yield study. That is when I discovered Jesse's channel on youtube. His crash courses and practice questions combined with the acer material formed pretty much the entirety of my study. However many questions I got right for that 51, I'd credit it to the way Jesse's crash courses help focus the scientific knowledge to the gamsat context

I certainly can, although I can probably help you out now. I feel as if Des is more relevant than I first thought.
TL;DR - Des is good for skills development, but don't get bogged down in its dependence on content knowledge. Make note of the theory that you do learn from it though as it's usually helpful to have.
The really helpful baskets are the pattern recognition/organic chemistry ones and the graph reading stuff.
Overall, I think it's all worth working through if you need to ration out the ACER stuff but I usually suggest that when going through answers, be mindful that some questions require technical calculation with decimals and they expect you to decipher the distinction between options differing by .01 or smaller and this is not the case for GAMSAT. You can instead practice estimation techniques and see how close you can get using those techniques but ultimately ACER make sure that there's no need to be able to say multiply decimals unless very simple ones like 0.2 x 0.4
Same with any stems that are more content focused. They might not be entirely reflective of the kinds of questions we see in GAMSAT but they do act as a great resource to familiarise yourself with concepts that can then be abstracted for their patterns and relationships. It effectively saves you having to trawl the internet for relevant stimuli

It was my first sitting and I received a score of 61 overall (57-63-62).
Obviously not great, but I do feel quite happy that I was able to achieve this by only prepping for two days (since I was so burnt out and unmotivated at the start).
It does give me a little hope that I’ll be able to do well if I put in at least a month of intense preparation 🤞🏻
Hey man, fantastic result all things considered and this should give you some confidence knowing that you've got a great starting point to continue making improvements in the next sitting.
Best of luck with the preparations. If I can offer some advice, I'd scope out a slow and steady method if you can maintain it for the next sitting. It will provide you a little more flexibility week to week in terms of balancing busier periods from uni/work with less on your plate for GAMSAT prep. It can become a more enjoyable process and gives you a bit more time for regular reflection and adjustment to your study which can alleviate the likelihood of burnout. All being said, you know yourself best! :)
Proudly went from 54 to 61 in section 1. Kept my section 2 stable at 84, but my s3 went from 61 to 53 which was really devastating and has ruined a lot of my chances. Disappointing when one section completely overtakes progress overall

That's a real shame, Zohal! I know you were working incredibly hard on this sitting. Congratulations on your s1 improvement and a killer s2 score. Hopefully, the unweighted score works in your favour for some other options.
It's always a shame when the three individual sections are cooperating together.
Be proud of what you've achieved already. You've stood out in the comments to me as someone who is truly determined and hard working. The hard workers are always those that are rewarded, and I have no doubt you'll find reward for your effort even if it doesn't feel like it right now :)

Hey Daniel, I use a browser-based virtual whiteboard app called ziteboard (ziteboard.com). I have a paid version but the free account is still pretty useful for scribbling. I pair this with a Wacom Intuous tablet (I have a link in the video description).
I mainly use it for my tutoring work and content development but I do occasionally use it to scribble if I don't have paper on the desk
I sat Gamsat for the first time in march this year. I scored S1 - 56, S2 - 54, and S3 - 77. Thank you so much for the help with section 3. Your videos helped me a lot and was most of my prep. I know my score isn't good enough. Do you any tips particularly for the S1 and S2 that I should keep in mind for my next sitting? For those wanting my advice on s1 and 2:
S1: I'm no expert but I found the most success this time with reading questions first before the stem. I do think this is personal preference though. I followed advice that S1 is about searching for 'evidence' for questions
S2: Write and read essays as frequently as possible and build confidence in your own writing style rather than emulating a specific and rigid format. Take on feedback where you can and read opinion pieces from a variety of perspectives on issues to learn more about them. This will give you a balanced view and a good understanding of existing perspectives before your respond and weigh in.
I scored 63 in S1 (a modest score). I recommend readtheory.com, GAMSAT Tutorials (YT Channel) and Des. I also recommend doing them to time as soon as possible. I do much better in untimed conditions so watch for how time pressure is affecting your performance and try to minimise those factors. For S2 I highly recommend 90+ Gamsat group or Michael Sunderlands blog. All the best!

What do you use for automatic marking essays?
Hey Haki, I used the ACER automated scoring system. You can purchase them from your ACER GAMSAT account once you've registered for a sitting. They're $20 for each submission of a pair of essays and you can choose a pair of topics from 8 options for each of the two writing tasks and whether it is timed or untimed.
I've usually been a big proponent of using it but after this recent sitting and more anecdotal experiences, I'm not as confident that it is as accurate a reflection of scores compared to when marked by real humans.

Hi Jesse, I’ve just stubbled upon your channel in my panic about GAMSAT. First of all, congrats man, what an incredible result!! I’m in my first year of University (nursing) after graduating from high school last year and have been contemplating medicine for a long time. I still don’t know if I want to go down that path but I know I want to attempt GAMSAT and apply if I get a competitive score. I’ve struggled a lot with really bad anxiety regarding academic pressure and didn’t do as well last year as I would have liked (the score was still impressive by normal standard just not by mine lol). My UCAT journey last year was SUCH a mess so I wanna give myself enough prep time this time for GAMSAT. If I start prep now, or like in a month, is that enough time to prep for 2023 sep sitting?
Hey there, glad to have you following the channel! I'd recommend against starting prep now unless it is very, very light study/preparation as to what to expect. While everyone has a different experience with GAMSAT most study for no longer than 6 months so if you're looking at September 2023, I'd say hold out on the study and focus on semester 2 of uni right now. GAMSAT is a challenge but it's generally not something that requires intensive and long term study. I'd look at starting preparation around March and take a slow and steady approach (2 hrs x 6 days a week and adjust up or down from there, depending on your progress as a rough estimate). Try not to overhype the GAMSAT as this can wear on you over time.
If you're undecided, it's worth looking into how your work/role would really be different between practising as a nurse vs doctor and which of them satisfies your needs more and would leave you happier at the end of a shift and at the end of a long career. I would always encourage people to give things a go if they're interested but remember that scores on the GAMSAT shouldn't make career decisions for us. ie. If you were to score well on the GAMSAT, it doesn't mean that you are better suited or would be happier in medicine than in nursing as a result. Choose the path that makes you happiest.
If you wanted to get an early idea of what to expect, you could browse some of my videos here as a passive sort of introduction to GAMSAT but I'd say close out this first year of your degree strong and maintain your GPA. Best of luck! :)
@@jesseosbourne thank you so much for the advice! I feel like I’m just so lost on this journey and getting advice/ insight like this really helps to calm my nerves. I think I’ll just do some minimal study on physics at this point since I’ve never really done physics (properly) before. And yea, I’m still trying to figure out if medicine is something I really want to pursue. I come from an ethnic background so there’s definitely pressure to become a doctor plus I was labeled as a “gifted child”…needless to say, got plenty of people expecting a lot from me :’)

Ah sorry man, I missed your comment. The TH-cam studio doesn't pull replies back to the top so I think your reply got buried!
Everyone is different and has different needs but I'd say that if you're NSB, tutoring session early in the preparation is often beneficial as it can help guide the study and organisation of concepts and skills. If you're comfortable with the science and have some familiarity with the exam, I'd probably suggest getting a tutor a little later (maybe around Mid-late June)
I'd also suggest the same as I do at the end of this video to wait for next week to give consideration to a tutor. Hope this helps!

Can anyone give advice on how they get high scores in each section because i have no idea how.
it's a difficult thing to answer because there are a lot of factors that play into the scores that people get but broadly speaking, focusing on being able to abstract theory into general relationships and developing the skill of processing lots of dense information quickly and drawing out key conclusions is the most important element of S3. This can be reading comprehension, graph reading, mathematical reasoning.
I know these are buzzwords at this point but anything more specific than this really starts to get to granular to be able to broach broadly.
from my experience, a consistent and concerted focus on skills development yields the best results (my own results are testament to this. This sitting I had this approach to S2 but not to S3).

I went up to a 70 in S1, 56 S2 which is actually an improvement but my S3 went down quite a bit :( from 75 to 68 overall 3 points improvement from previous score for unweighted calculation - still need to work on S2
Fantastic results, Ryan! That S1 is crazy good and holding a 68 considering the difficulty of this sitting is a great result and indicates you've got a very good base in this section. I'm hoping to work on some more S2 content over the next few months so hopefully this can help you out. With a focus on S2 improvement you'd be on track for some very strong overall scores! Are you looking at applying to unis using the unweighted GAMSAT?
@@jesseosbourne Hey Jesse, thanks for your kind words. It's an improvement, not a great result but it's also not a terrible result. For my essays, I feel I went decently well on one of them and pretty horrible on the other - I just didn't know what to say. Had I been more well rounded and consistent I may have scored much better. Because I have a VERY strong portfolio and weighted GPA of 6.9 (down from 6.95 last year) I'll be looking to ND Sydney FFP (unweighted gamsat) again this year. I interviewed at ND Sydney last year and have since improved my GAMSAT from 59 to 64.67. I still don't have an expectation of getting in but I will write GAMSAT twice a year until I do. I owe you thanks for some points on S3 for sure. :)

when do we have to take Gamsat (what grade)
EDIT: The 2023 GAMSAT booklet has just been released and is actually now allowing 4 years of consecutive sittings as eligible. This means the 8 sittings prior to the close of admissions to Australian Medical Schools can be used in your application.
Candidates must be in their final or penultimate year of their qualifying degree.
You can technically sit the GAMSAT whenever you like but only scores from eligible sittings can be used

Jesse i wanna ask you, did you write 1200 words for both essays or each got a 1200 words?
It was about 1200 words for each essay in this sitting but this was unusually higher than I would normally write. I would normally do about 400-600 per essay
Word count is less important in an essay than the quality of the discussion being put forward
@@jesseosbourne what about spelling mistakes, do they also assess that? or is it more about the thought and the message you're trying to deliver

"Written Communication is assessed on two broad criteria: the quality of the thinking about a topic and the control and use of language demonstrated in the articulation of that thinking. Assessment focuses on the way in which ideas are integrated into a thoughtful response to the task. Control of language (grammatical structure and expression) is an integral component of a good piece of writing but it is not assessed in isolation. It is assessed insofar as it contributes to the overall effectiveness of the response to the task. Test takers are not assessed on the ‘correctness’ of the ideas or attitudes they display. Pre- prepared responses and responses that do not relate to the topic will receive a low score
CRITERIA FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF WRITTEN COMMUNICATION
In scoring Section II, the following features of writing are considered
Thought and Content
(the quality of what is said)
• What is made of and developed from the task
• The kinds of thoughts offered in response to the task
Organisation and Expression
(the quality of the structure developed and language used)
• The shape and form of the piece
• The effectiveness and fluency of the language
Each response is scored independently three times."
My take would be that if you have little typos here and there it wouldn't be an issue but patterns in spelling errors that demonstrate a poorer command of written communication in English or that makes the piece less understandable or fluent would score lower.
