It's not for political correctness that I'd not kick rats' nests, though. Hantavirus scares me, with its 38% fatality rate. Personally, I'd take a CO2 semi auto bb pistol in to the mine and send rats traveling right off spaceship Earth to their maker. Rats are vermin, but could make for some fun moving targets. I read in one of Frank's other comments that Alberta claims to have killed all rats. That is an achievement. I wish I could be that successful with the ground squirrels in my yard.

We are very fortunate living here in Southern BC there are hundreds of abandoned mines within a few hours of here to explore! As I get more experience it is getting safer.

Well there are lots of mines here and not too many people exploring them. Also the more interesting stuff is a long ways in and hard to get to. The main haul tunnels are pretty safe, other levels......well it depends!
Great show Frank! Nice to see the old machines and carts outside too! I've had a go at driving a mucker, it's good fun but hell of a noisey and sensitive controls being air driven!
I have heard they derail quite easily because they don't clean up in between the rails very well. I am sure it is much easier than shoveling. Of course most of the carts were loaded with the ore chutes.

Up at Phoenix there were a few times where I didn't know where I was but nothing really serious. I have most of it marked now I used a hole case of spray paint and it took a month!

Have you ever explored any of the mines in Northern Idaho, have been exploring them for over twenty years. Also I have yet to observe you guys marking the routes you take, how come?
Marking the routes? Not sure what you mean. If you google the name of the mine we visit and minfile it will give you a complete history of the mine as well as the exact location.
He went home and had a nap. The videos were not all shot on the same day. I put a bunch of scenes together from different days to make a film. With two people and extra gear there isn't always room for him in the truck.
When you are back in the areas deep in the mine, when you encounter these furry rodents, turned off all of your lighting and sat in the dark for about ten minutes to see if the fungus growing on the wood and rocks is glowing ... Very dimly?
The thing that you think is a lighting fixture in the very beginning of this movie. I think it might be part of a old school bird cage. what do you think?
I notice you comment a lot on them not blasting if you see drill holes, if there is a dozen+ holes I can certainly question why not Blasting but a few holes could most possibly be test holes for checking material depth/richness/stability to warrent blasting or no extraction at all
Do you have any images of a canary cage like a bird cage for the birds that detect carbon dioxide I'm just wondering if they had special cages for the job
I know why they had the birds I was just curious and what the cages for like when you had that image of a lamp in the beginning and made me think of it
The Gold was pretty fine so it is hard to spot especially since there is so much Pyrite that looks like gold. If they mined ore that was one oz of gold to the ton they were pretty happy so there is a lot more rock than gold!
Not that I can remember. The only thing you see in the dark is rats and bats. Other animals like snakes might hang out near the portal but don't like total darkness. I saw rabbit sign in a mine once.

Im investigating an area that was iron ore mining.. Rather digging. Don't know of any mines. But pits yes. Im finding spikes in cross ties in what is now a stream bed. But once a railway for ore carts. Just snowed a lot so have to wait for melt. Then back to detecting. Im hoping to find some horse or donkey shoe remains to show they were used for hauling carts. It depends on the size of the ore carts. Some large mines have large rails set 48" apart. In small mines and crosscut levels you have small 18 gauge rails with tiny little spikes.
Exploring Abandoned Mines do you have that in one of your videos? If not could you give us some more info about the event. Obviously Max wasn't injured which is good.
Hi, I'm a paranormal investigator. I enjoy watching and especially listening to all the mine videos. There an amazing amount of Spirits inside of these old mines. I'd say 80% of the mine videos I've watched on youtube has 1 or more Spirits lurking. I have a bit of an advantage because of my years of experience and knowing what to listen for as well as being a clairaudient (able to hear spirits). In this mine in particular I heard a Man following you around commenting on your remarks and cursing you a bit as they always do when you intrude on their peace. Unless your a complete skeptic, I imagine you must have heard or maybe even seen many voices or noises as you tour through. Care you talk about what you've heard or experienced? You really only need headphones and a bit of concentration to pick out the voices and various noises on these videos. If your a complete skeptic, I can tell you exactly at what times you can hear them.

But there are a couple of things....... when I was editing the stuff at Jewel lake , Either the Ethiopia or the Dentonia mines one I don't remember which I heard a strange voice I couldn't explain I am not sure where in the video. The other thing is if I am by myself way down in a mine and not moving, like when I am working on something I get a little "creeped out" I don't know why.
Have you listened to your recordings with headphones on? Maybe you don't want to if your down there alone, lol. They are there though wether you like it or not. You should watch the show Ghost mine that was on TV a few years back. Although they missed 60-70% of the actual EVP or Spirit Voices, it still got some evidence and it was pretty entertaining.
Rats are cool, Pack rats are a different animal. Been told via these videos that they stink, pee like mice to get around, there food is strictly for them, yuck. Give me nuts and vegetables, they may even eat these. 71 years old, if i ever got down in a mine now, i'd never get out.

Sometimes you run into mines with low oxygen. Not too common in hard rock mines. I grew up in Armstrong.

The white fungus is so bright it looks like daylight sometimes. I have turned my light off a few times but it was pitch black!
Man would I love to find some old dynamite crates. slim pickings up here in 'Deadmonton' for me

They detected low oxygen. They would die if the percentage of oxegen drops just a small bit as they have small lungs.
Well in areas with low oxygen don't they have high levels of carbon monoxide

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's carbon monoxide and like methane and stuff not low oxygen because Birds fly a high altitudes with low oxygen

The biggest problem they had with the 12b was that it derailed easily. I think the tracked model would have worked much better
