"That guy from Poco" was the late, great Rusty Young. An absolute legend and the godfather of rock and roll pedal steel. A multi-talented musician who changed the rules for the pedal steel guitar.
At 1:29 - "Quieter and thinner" - I actually was nodding my head!!
My Ibanez has coil tapped Humbuckers and that's exactly how it sounds when it's switched to coil single. Quieter and thinner.

I try to use the 2- or 3-day day rule: What I'm gassing about Monday, may still not be a need by Wednesday or Thursday. Especially if it has launch hype.
Here are a couple more reasons;
1) it’s daytime
B) it’s nighttime

In the acoustic area, you need spruce tops but mahogany, rosewood, cocobolo back and sides etc... different shapes and sizes too... starts to add up... oh, and don't forget you need a resonator too... and even if you primarily use acoustics, you gotta have at least one electric (and a really good one)...
And a Hollowbody 🙂
And then you’re gonna need a little wood- body reso and a bigger metal-body one.

I'm teaching myself Fly Me Courageous right now! It's actually a good song for a beginner like me. Although whenever I get frustrated It gets me Drivin' and Cryin'.
All I need, strat type, tele type, Gibson with humbuckers, semi hollow, acoustic guitar and a travel guitar. Oh yeah, Ukulele for the grandchildren.
Don't forget a 12 string electric n 12 string acoustic

Rusty Young of Poco... saw them 3 times back in the early 70's... he was an innovator of the pedal/lap steel guitar, seek him out, it's worth the ride!

"Fly Me Courageous" - Kevin Kinney & Co. aka Drivin 'n Cryin. We used to play that song in one of my bands (along with another Drivin 'n Cryin song - "Build a Fire'). Fun stuff to play. BTW, Kevin is originally from the Milwaukee area (I live in one of the Milwaukee 'burbs). Drivin 'n Cryin supposedly comes from a name of a song he was writing for a punk band he was in when he lived up here.
It's too bad that the following album (after the Fly Me Courageous album) Smoke didn't do so well. "Whiskey Soul Woman" (which is off the Smoke album) is a great song.

I have enough guitars really, and each either comes with a different type of pickup or I have installed a different type of pickup in there to give me plenty of options.
My problem comes when I browse the web and happen to see something that catches my eye. I know I don't really need it but I just have to have it. Once the object is acquired my mind sets itself on the task of convincing me of the next object I simply must have.
The reason a PRS doesn’t sound like a Strat is because the placing of the pickup below the string. And you have no chance of getting a 2, 3, or 4 position Strat tone.
Owning pretty much every variety of guitar (I don’t need any more), I would suggest a mid point between a Paul and a Strat is actually a Gretsch Duo Jet, not a PRS.
Have y'all watched Megan Lovell from Larkin Poe jam on her lap steel guitar? She's really good. A video of Larkin Poe playing with Blackberry Smoke, it's cool seeing Paul Jackson and Benji Shanks grinning ear to ear as Megan plays solo on the lap steel. Souunds as good as most lead guitar players.

It's like I said yesterday I really need a good Jazzmaster and a couple of top dollar Gretsch guitars. Nothing's changed except I think I should probably buy a couple of more amps as well before I reach 70.

Hell, I’ve purchased guitars for our anniversary, my wife’s birthday, 4 July and Valentine’s Day. I’ve even purchased one 4 Mother’s Day.😂
My PRS Custom 24 doesn’t come close to achieving strat sounds, even with the split coil options. It’s too warm sounding of a guitar. Love it to death but that’s why I added a silver sky to the roster

I let someone borrow a guitar once. I did not get that guitar back in the same shape as I loaned it. So no, no more.
Samick SG, jack went into the body. Eventually I had it repaired with a jack plate over the damage.
I have one caveat to the whole "Buy another guitar for..." when it comes to playing live show. Sometimes its not feasible to take multiple guitars with you to a venue. Maybe the stage has no space for your band and extra gear. Maybe the set is set up in such a way that switching out guitars would take as long as, in your example, changing the string. Unless you're SRV and have a roadie who comes out and sets you up WHILE you're playing a song!!
It could be argued that this mindset would prompt a video "Why you need more amps" because if your one amp blows...thats the show also. Also for Drummers "Why you need more kick drum pedals and more snares. I cannot TELL you the amount of shows I have played that abruptly ended due to these issues.
As for the acoustasim not fooling anyone. I will agree 100% if you want to play acoustically around the house or play an acoustic show...get a real one. But to my point above, sometimes you cannot drag multiple guitars to a show. I play an acoustic on all of one song in a long set. Stopping to switch to an acoustic seems kinda silly in that case, so I dial in the AC3 as best I can and go for broke. Amazingly, in a band setting, that sound can come darn close.
I can name three guitars off the top of my head that have desperately tried to be the "One guitar to rule them all" in terms of having an instrument that does EVERYTHING for you 1)The Line 6 Variax 2)The Taylor T5(and subsequently the Fender Acoustasonics) and 3)The Music Man John Petruci Majesty. So I wont be shocked if PRS tries to get into this market with some weird hybrid custom 24 Silver Sky with a Piezo in the bridge based off of Pauls favorite acoustic. >:)
But I think we all dream of rolling into a live show with that guitar vault filled with every guitar we feel we will need to make us look and sound awesome! But I want one that comes with SRVs Roadie!!

I don't own a PRS, but every time I play one I never use the coil tap,,, yes it's true
just play a strat
I never use coil tap on any guitar. Coil split is a bit better, but I dont use that either.

I love PRS but I disagree. You need a PRS AND a Charvel DK24.😜I like Strats but rarely play them.
My most important reason for buying a new guitar… I can live with my wife being angry. (she doesn’t get that mad.)😅
1: Can't find the sound.
Often as not, the amp is at issue, but a new guitar can build on the fallacy. While I don't subscribe to needing a Strat tone, I do have a failing for Strats loaded with lipstick pickups.
2: The guitar in the store wrote a song for you.
I've seen a video of Kenny Wayne Shepherd's collection, and... they are uniformly Strats. Seems unlikely there's much of a difference between them. But if one wrote a song the others struggle with (and it happens) best bring that home.
3: Your #1 is in the shop.
I had a guitar in the shop for eighteen months. By the time I got it back, they had it longer than I had. Next time there was a neck twist. Fixing those takes half a year. A spare guitar is useful.
4: A rare gem surfaces.
I can't stand Telecasters. Too much twang, too harsh, too thin, and I wrestle with the necks. So when this Lawsuit Era copy takes all that away, I buy it before someone else finds it.
5: She's just too dazzling to let go.
This falls under the "Bucket List" at times. Some guitar will just sweep you off your feet, and there's nothing for it except to have her.

Unrelated but a couple weeks ago I was at an open mic and somehow I bumped into the mic stand and knocked my tone knob. Solder joint cracked, output died, the pot fell into the cavity and the knob got lost. It made me really regret not having another guitar with me right then and there.
All you need is a PRS. To trade for either one AVII Strat or two Classic Vibe Teles. 😂

When PRS follows their own claims and makes the same off the shelf models with all identical hardware but five different wood options available at retail, I'll take them seriously. If you need more guitars, get them from a company that doesn't make wild claims about "tone". Gretsch is best, of course, they don't even seem to know specs for their own stuff, and it's still great!

Having the same exact Fishmans in all your guitars. That's my pet peave of players who'll claim they don't need single coils or even P90's. Just get an HSS and be done with it already.
The truth of this conversation boils down to money. If guitar only cost $100 each an everyone owned 20 of them, no one would blink an eye.
I have all five of these covered. Please come up with five more excuses, er, I mean reasons I need to buy another guitar.
