You're correct. Kali, Arnis, Escrima, whatever you call it, its not a self defense system or a martial art. Its a killing art. The defense comes when you've killed or incapacitated your enemy, not when he's still capable of fighting. Unless, of course, if you both call it quits.

Not what I learned in knife fighting class with the Army Rangers. Once you get contact with your knife, you cut a C, and filet up. Basically, once you break skin, you don't slice deeper, you cut a piece of meat off. In this case, once he makes contact, he could cut the C, and go straight up his arm, basically skimming off the bone. He'd have half an arm left, and generally people stop fighting at that point and fall over from lack of blood to their brain. Same with a leg if you fall over. Cut the achilles, drag the blade up and take off their calf muscle. Kinda hardcore, but that's how you do real damage.
I've had a few bad situations in my life. The worst, I was shot and left for dead. Another was an attempted robbery of me and my wife Christmas shopping, when in parking lot. Once a guy came at me with a tire tool out of the blue. I was just out of high school. I was terrified but had the wit about me to pull my pocket knife, put my left arm in a defense position for my head while taking a side step and back. I said if you swing that you better hope it kills me because I'm going to cut you as deep as I can. It was like time froze and luckily for me he did not swing the tire tool. I've often thought of how close one of us or both was to death that night. Like you in training we had the 21 foot rule and were told if within that distance upon drawing your weapon, expect to get cut.

Loosing 1/2 my liver, one kidney, part of my intestine, busted right lung, 7 section of rib, half the muscle in my back, a hole size of a cantaloupe in my back and hole in abdominal wall. 127 shrapnel and bone fragments up and down my spine 5 in the half liver I have, 1 in my elbow and 2 in my hip etc. 2 years later I went back to work as a city officer in a small town. A few years later I retired because of health. Retired and disabled now with lots of issues. I died during this and now know there is definitely something after all this. I credit God, good doctors and nurses and training in martial arts for the meditation which taught me breathing control, control of emotions and focus. Sometimes folks experience this kind of stuff, like I did and I hope if someone who reads this has such experience, that this helps them have hope and courage to survive.
Bro that’s not always the best idea. If you told someone to go for the kill shot vs me. Every time they extend their arm to stab me ima cut tf out their arms, and win through 1000 cuts. The goal is to punish aggression. Keep the knife close to ur body. For better leverage, speed and control. So you also don’t get disarmed.

I was seriously traveled all the way to where every year at and follow your process of combat proficiency tfor patients. She to a level of hard work and diligence
The best technique I was ever shown for a knife fight was stomp like you're throwing a tantrum, scream with a high pitch ( nnnnnnnnnnooooooo!), then run away like you have flexible leg bones.
If the dude is 100 feet away from you, he's obviously not an immediate threat to you. can't shoot someone that's 100 feet away from you just because they're holding a damn knife. if you're gonna carry, learn the laws, and learn wtf your doing.
Great insight.👍 In a knife fight you will get cut. But to a very small degree, you can decide where you will be cut. It may come down to sacrificing a lesser cut in order to get in a lethal cut /stab.
Man thats the harder way to do knife counters in kali, the way I was taught is to push the hand into the knife and cross over like your using your arms as scissors, then you guide it it with your fore arm, and repeat for the 5 angles.
Yep everything is easy to show how you'd control when the enemy isn't trying. In reality, he fakes you out you go for your counter he grabs your arm and you have a couple holes in you
Would you be able to pull the camera out a little bit more towards the end part because it’s unseeable the movement that he used to keep the control he’s talking about in the end, I missed it
i think hes talking about the post cut period where the arm is useless for a small amount of time and the left arm is parried and he pushes both hands down
I was taught kali by a Filipino when serving in SOF and one thing I learned about that, everyone gets cut when knives are out. We used shock knives to simulate being cut. We practiced in all environments: stairwells, kitchen, offices, uneven, terrain etc it was wild.
Some of the old masters are actually convicts who have killed or survived knife attacks in their life. Some of the older ones were guerilla fighters who used arnis to kill enemies in WW2 and from what I know, our country used to have a BOLO-Man battallion, much like the historic Katipuneros, who are mainly armed with machetes and bamboo spears. My personal street experience is that those who do not train are usually the instigators, feeling strong as they are armed, have the numbers and the element of surprise. But when given an equal or stronger opposition, they would disingage and walk away. Much like predators who would not continue the hunt if the prey fights back. Unsurprisingly, I had in 2 occasions seen a fight stop and disperse by just pretending to draw a knife. That person is a pintado. Historically, the culture of pintados (tatoos), are writen stories and accomplisments in their life as tatoos. Those who know can read them. Some of those tatoos are counts of persons they have killed in headhunting.
I agree, this Kaplag (instructor) is correct.. I study a style from the island of Cebu.. and it's a 3 -5 second response...Po!..... Let them give the body part , and you give them the response/surprise...
Yes, if you just grab the forearm, there is plenty of wrist movement to swivel, and open up your wrist. This is definitely a situation of life, or death.
I’ve been through several courses on spontaneous knife defense and survival knife fighting but it wasn’t until I went up against a man trained in Apache knife fighting that I was truly humbled. It was spooky how fast and how many times this young man was able to kill me and the shock knives really sucked that day.

I said if you swing that you better hope it kills me because I'm going to cut you as deep as I can. It was like time froze and luckily for me he did not swing the tire tool. I've often thought of how close one of us or both was to death that night. Like you in training we had the 21 foot rule and were told if within that distance upon
drawing your weapon, expect to get cut.
@@kentuckywindage222 did you not see the part where I said I was an Army Ranger? I learned this in training. But, I assure you I've seen far more combat than 99% of people. Once I got out, I needed more and got into muay thai. I've had 5 fights so far and am now almost 40 years old.

Yes Ken I saw were you said that. I'm 54 years old and have been blessed. The streets can be a rough place at times. It wasn't my intention to insult you Ken. My intention was to associate my experiences with yours. As a law enforcement officer I went back to work 2 years after being hit with a shotgun at 5 foot in my lower right flank.
"Break the wrist...walk away."
My attacker feeling sorry for me because I cut off my own thumb.
"Um...your work here is done."
Remember this,, ppl dnt really tell u I got a weapon until u actually fight ,, then that's when they pull it out
I heard back in the old days, they will tie a short rope to the hips of the combatants before they start the knife fight.
Wow. Full control of opponents weapon and constantly striking simultaneously. Good techniques.
"You don't teach them knife fighting. You teach them to kill. That way, when they meet someone who's learned knife fighting, they send them to hell."
First rule of knife fighting: make sure you have a knife that is sharp.
Damnit! So many rules.. lol
"Phillipino girls are pretty, but their fathers and brothers have sharp knives" - Hawaiian proverb.
Never heard that before, but it does ring somewhat true 😂
I hear you sir, 😂 it does ring true thats why every time we like a gurl we have to ask permission first from the parents specially the fathers or the male sib😂😂 but that was before specially in the barrios, they have what we called “pinuti” meaning a large knife or a bolo knife that so white sharp edge of the blade 😂😂😂 and they wear or bring that knife whenever or wherever they go since most of the people’s we’re working in a farm land…
And also carry 45 My father and my uncles. My girl cousins are pretty but watch out.
With this shit ur either good at it or dead i love this shit
If your not ready to die, put your slippers on hand and then run, avoid a fight you aren't prepared to lose everything.
A knife fight w/a trained attacker is terrifying.
I really, truly hope I never end up in a knife fight.
Knife fighting/ defence is notoriously challenging. This is one of the best video I've seen in a while
"oops, that wasn't the practice knife"
Yes correct 10 4 finally a proffesional demonstration. Thankyou
"So anyways , I started blasting"
Thank u brother for sharing ur knowledge. It's appreciated . Thank u. Love and respect coming from Arizona
So hard to test the efficacy of knife fighting today unlike unarmed combat
use paintbrushes
Thank god ive never a knife fight but its the first time i see something that is near a good lesson, if you cant hold a knife no more u arent a danger no more...
Best move in a knife fight is to run away.
Get a showel lik in russia and beat him. Joke
That's why I always carry a bigger knife 🗡
What if,it's a dead end alley?
@@tjanocruz9782 is that why it's called a dead end? Because you end up dead? 🤯
No, best move is to pull out your gun
Well, while it is not ideal, once in a while blocking the actual weapon/blade of the enemy is a valid technique.
Psalm 34:8 ~ Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

I was seriously traveled all the way to where every year at and follow your process of combat proficiency tfor patients. She to a level of hard work and diligence
rule number 1 Of knife fighting is to run like your life depends on it
Instructor be smiling secretly about how silly knife defences are
That's why I always wear cut resistant sleeves.
Yeh stabbers dont go for arms, they go for faces, necks, backs or stomach
Should wear stab resistant clothes too
Yeah I got mine from Dior
The best technique I was ever shown for a knife fight was stomp like you're throwing a tantrum, scream with a high pitch ( nnnnnnnnnnooooooo!), then run away like you have flexible leg bones.
The best way to win a knife fight is with a gun, from 100 feet away.
If the dude is 100 feet away from you, he's obviously not an immediate threat to you. can't shoot someone that's 100 feet away from you just because they're holding a damn knife. if you're gonna carry, learn the laws, and learn wtf your doing.
Not if he can teleport
@@richardsalinetrojr1957 Sure I can.
@@fustercluck2460Not legally.
Great insight.👍
In a knife fight you will get cut.
There are several ways not just one
Yep everything is easy to show how you'd control when the enemy isn't trying. In reality, he fakes you out you go for your counter he grabs your arm and you have a couple holes in you
I would love to train with this dude
Man I like what you're teaching man
Easier said (in a prearranged demonstration) than done in the chaos of a real life situation.
Which is why you train.
That's why you practice with real people and real b Lunt knives
No shit, welcome to what the fuck training is.
@@brandonmatthews2076Or else you run out of students. Not good.
THAYS WHY YOU ALWAYS CARRY A KNIFE & BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE IT HAPPENS ..C,MON ..DO YOU EVEN GO OUTSIDE???
DO YOU AGREE?
Would you be able to pull the camera out a little bit more towards the end part because it’s unseeable the movement that he used to keep the control he’s talking about in the end, I missed it
i think hes talking about the post cut period where the arm is useless for a small amount of time and the left arm is parried and he pushes both hands down
not unreasonable, he advanced to a stronger position and gets more control.
Uhh 😬 actually it was a spelling mistake sorry guys I fixed it though
@@mikusmccoy8592 ahhhh
I was taught kali by a Filipino when serving in SOF and one thing I learned about that, everyone gets cut when knives are out.
We used shock knives to simulate being cut. We practiced in all environments: stairwells, kitchen, offices, uneven, terrain etc it was wild.
How much real life experience can these guys actually have
Some of the old masters are actually convicts who have killed or survived knife attacks in their life.
I bet you can’t beat him
Filipinos train to survive. Run or kill.
They are wonderful friendly people.
What's happening in this comment section lol
London needs this hero!
If you're a martial artist and you don't at least cross train in FMA, you're not a complete martial artist 💯
I love the camera angles were you can't see what's being done
I agree, this Kaplag (instructor) is correct.. I study a style from the island of Cebu.. and it's a 3 -5 second response...Po!..... Let them give the body part , and you give them the response/surprise...
Yeah avoid knife fights, but if you have a knife as well. Listen to EVERYTHING this man says. He will literally make you win.
Yes, if you just grab the forearm, there is plenty of wrist movement to swivel, and open up your wrist. This is definitely a situation of life, or death.
Guaranteed to win any slow motion knife fight with these ninja moves
That ambience and background.. “The Hunted” makes me want to watch that again, if u like to see kali in movies 😂
I’ve been through several courses on spontaneous knife defense and survival knife fighting but it wasn’t until I went up against a man trained in Apache knife fighting that I was truly humbled. It was spooky how fast and how many times this young man was able to kill me and the shock knives really sucked that day.
Best knife fight run! But if it goes down.. have a belt or a jacket for reach. Belt with a buckle even better..
But you know what’s better that? RUNNING!!!
Got my black belt in TKD and Karate......but when i moved to the Philippines for 5yrs for work i took up Arnis and there i learned the actual brutality of combat...not just self defense or points.....but rather the trye realization that someones not walking away, taking a life. Also.....great food, humble people and always smiling. 👍🏾 My love to the Philippines and her people....salamat ♥️
Is this manny Pacquiao ...excelling sword martial arts❤❤..these people are really humble
