One thing I like about this is K. Rool's introduction in this game would have caught many players off surprise. At least in the first 2 games he's shown to be a predominant threat even being explained in the instruction manuals if players decide to read them. Here there is no mention of him even in the manual. It's just DK and Diddy have gone missing and a new Kremling Krew has been made that's led by new main villain Kaos. So learning that Kaos was just merely DK and Diddy implanted in a robot mind controlled by K. Rool from behind the scenes was an interesting twist. It also shows how desperate K. Rool is getting. After the destruction of his island it wasn't just enough to capture DK. He captured Diddy too then turned them into Kaos.

You know, I feel like it would have been real epic if all four hero Kongs got to team up for the final boss fight. Like, imagine DK tossing barrels to Dixie and Kiddy to use as ammo, or Diddy jumping onto the boss to open up a weakpoint. Would have felt like all four Kongs were working together to take the final boss down. DK64 had the right idea with the five player Kongs tag-teaming, plus Funky and Candy helping out at the end. I'd love to see that revisited for a future showdown, with maybe the support Kongs - Cranky, Dixie, Funky, maybe even Swanky and Wrinkley - all showing up to help the player Kongs in some way. I always get tingles when I see team-ups like that.
I think that what should have happened was for K. Rool to have 2X the hits while you get 2X the hitpoints. Though a rework to the K. Rool boss fight would also be nice as well.
At 0:25 (more or less), those 2 tom sounds play later than they should. In the original, they play a bit earlier. "The distance of those 2 is correct, the location is the issue".

Always compared the DKC series to Sonic, it just felt like Nintendo's answer to Sonic. You'd think I was being crazy, They roll, Like Sonic with pinballs they use themselves as cannon balls, K.Rool uses tech against DK, DKC 2 has an amusement park stage like Sonic typically does. DK and Diddy and Diddy and Dixie are the Sonic and Tails of Nintendo. But if that doesn't convince you.. Look at K. Rool did to DK and Diddy in DKC 3 and tell me that doesn't scream "Eggman".
That means Candy Kong is Rouge the Bat, Dixie is probly Amy, K. Rool is Robotnik Donkey Kong is Sonic and Diddy is Tails. Last two don't quite work but that's probly what it would be. Either Funky or Cranky might actually be Knuckles.
The storyline kind of goes with Streets of Rage's trilogy. First game, there's a big bad causing problems, and he needs to be dealt with. Second game, Main character goes missing and needs to be rescued. Both the second games have a dark forest level, an amusement park level with dangerous attractions, and an elevator level with various enemies, and a big bad who shoots wildly at you, ( Mr X, and K. Rool, ) and even simply smack you with their weapons if you get too close. Both third games have an emphasis on robotic enemies, and even a false robotic Big Bad. Both third games even have a mad scientist boss.
There are a few direct Sonic references as well, especially in DKC2. The enemy "Cat o' Nine Tails" is very similar to sonic, considering the spiky back and blue fur. In the "Cranky's Video Game Heroes" screen (it's where you see how many DK Coins you've collected), there's a trashcan beside the podium with a sign that says "NO HOPERS". Next to the sign is Sonic's pair of sneakers and Earthworm Jim's gun.
I sort of forgot about the dialogue between Dixie and Baron K.Roolenstein. I forgot how much of smartass Dixie was, hahaha
