Good reaction. This was a live stream during covid. The stage was not simple. Just with this song. One of the best metal singers from the Netherlands. We have lots of great female singers here. Go to see Epica in September with live orchestra and choir. Have a ticket for both evenings. Will be Epic(a). Thanks for this reaction.
Wow! So original! Loved the piano/guitar intro. I could have listened to that for hours. Then her voice was so very beautiful! I was a little thrown by the ring of fire - and that deep voice gave me the shivers, but overall, a haunting performance.
there's a pole on David Heretic's youtube channel in the community my request is about to just lose to king lizzard would like to win grate on epica vote!
I am so glad you picked this wonderful song by Epica sung by the to me most incredible singer in melodic metal besides Floor Jansen. Simone Simons - which you first saw with Floor together in Sancta Terra - started the band in around 2002 and I had the chance to see her in theese early years when they created a inbelievable project called Phantom Agony and I still have the originally signed first DVD from this which is outstanding. Floor, who was already in her first band After Forever and Simone - both from the Netherlands - can for sure be called the queens of melodic metal and are inspired by the (I call her and this is not meant to be disrespectful!) Queen Mom Anneke van Giersbergen, lead singer of The Gathering - and what else - dutch. Something must be in the dutch water that crates one banger singer after the other. I can tell you, as I know how deep you dived into the Nightwish rabithole in which I am too, this is just as deep as the other one and especially Mrs. Coach will have some very special moments while she will be finally get to be a metalhead. So thank you again for all your work and the nice way of your presentations! Greetings from Germany
Hi Coach and Mrs. Coach, nice to see you enjoying Epica. I really like this song. 3 other great songs are "Unleashed", "Rivers" (feat. Apocolyptica) and "Tides of Time" , you should considder reacting to those as well. Greetings from the Netherlands (home of Floor and Simone..... ;o)
Hey guys I'm glad you're reacting to more Epica. As others would probably tell you, this concert was filmed during the pandemic when there was no to touring so they streamed this show with no audience but they went crazy with the production. I recommend Skeleton Key from this concert if you want to see more from this (and get a little heavier) or Unleashed with orchestra.
That's what I love about this metal genre, this diversity, there are not many bands that manage to rewrite a song like this and then play it live, like here at the streaming concert and then with an audience at their 20th anniversary concert. Unforgettable experiences . Looking forward to more Epica .

The 2021 Omega Alive concert was a virtual show, done when they couldn't tour due to restrictions. An intro an 14 songs, filmed over 5 days, and streamed online at one time. It has since been released on DVD. The entire show is a little over an hour and a half of awesome. Yep Coach, that slow build works so well. Song is from the 2016 7th album, The Holographic Principle. Lyrics by Simone, music by keyboardist Coen Janssen. Next? Try also from this show, "The Skeleton Key" and "Kingdom of Heaven Part 3".
You guys need to see; Epica "Rivers" (live with Apocalyptica)...IMHO, one of the most emotionally captivating performances I have seen. I know you'll love it. Cheers!

For the full band extravaganza from Omega Alive check out Kingdom of Heaven part 3… a human chandelier, giant metal cobras that spit fire and a flaming piano to name but three highlights, but the music still trumps everything. 14 minutes of music theatre.
Thanks for the musical exploration. As one who found Queen in 1973 and saw them live in the 70's I love to follow new paths, and melodic metal is a great path to follow (I admit I started with Ghost). All I can say to fans and reactors alike is "keep up the good work."
Hi Coach, here is a very uplifting and positive song, also a song that gets the audience jumping around, it's a lot of fun 🙃 EPICA - Beyond The Matrix (Live At The AFAS Live) - Official Live Video
One thing I am thankful to other very good symphonic metal bands like Nightwish, visions of Atlantis, Xandria, Delain, and others for being my gateway up to the high bar of symphonic metal done proper and powerful in Epica and also Fleshgod Apocalypse but these two often are very heavy so either you’ll love it or you want but they do some of the most beautiful ballads like this you’ll ever hear and queen Simone well she’s above a queen she’s an archangel. Their talent is immense and unfortunately they live too long under the shadow of a more commercially popular Nightwish. Great reaction!
Simone was only warming up for the next song which follows without a break. The song is called Rivers, which one of their best, and is an acapella version. Yes Mrs Coach, they are all whoa and bahm songs. This group is up there with the best and I have never come across problems witn downloads/streaming, in fact I believe they encourage them through their channel. Be ready for "bangers" and "tissues required" songs from them. You will not be disappointed with anything from Epica.
Yes, we were actually surprised that when we posted the video they share revenue with the reactors. That's fantastic. Some groups do understand the power of viral marketing. Appreciate you taking time to comment.

Hi guys, thanks for the reaction. Don’t forget to react to the band “Within Temptation “ another Dutch symphonic band. Try their songs “faster” or “sinead”. You should enjoy them I reckon.
Yeah, there are times when I watch them and can't do much more than say Wow! like a dozen times. They have a diverse catalogue to choose from, some are much heavier and others are more radio friendly. Here are a couple of my favourites that don't really get recommended much, The Second Stone: th-cam.com/video/uDkaKpoFJV4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uJLOfUvmnADWtfZO and In All Conscience: th-cam.com/video/09e0jIYT5e4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=s6rIYQU2-zSEaw9g if you prefer live try this version instead: th-cam.com/video/UQIf86ql3-M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZUH58zYj8YcnvFye
@Mrs & Mr Coach: Omega Alive was the virtual concert they did during Corona. An epic production. Next one? Difficult 🙃. The diversity of Epica is huge and phenomenal. And they can play unbelievable ballads and very hard stuff with black and death metal influences. Let's try it this way. At Nightwish everything is build up with harmonies between Floor and Marko. And Epica is doing the beauty and the beast stucture. The angelic voice of Simone in contrast to the growls of Mark Jansen. Building harmonies. So I would recommend a song in between. "Code of Life" AFAS live, "Skeleton Key" OMEGA Alive, "Beyond the Matrix" Zenith live. Please wait with "Design to Oblivion".It is epic, but very harsh. 🤪
Great reaction to one of my favorite Epica songs. Inspired by the dark German fairytale about the Alder King or Erlking who steals the souls of children who linger to long in the woods by killing them with a single touch. The male voice here is the evil enchanter trying to lure the young traveler to his side with promises of power and tender care by his daughters. Simone has said the song is symbolic of being stuck in a life without a happy ending and how our innocence is taken away from us as soon as we are born. Epica is right up there with Nightwish as my favorite symphonic metal band. They switch positions as my favorite depending on my mood. I find Epica to be even more symphonic and I love their use of choirs. Omega Alive was their livestream concert during the pandemic so that's why there is no audience. The live performances were recorded over several days on multiple sets and then streamed in one continuous hour and 45 minute show. One of the things I love about Epica is how diverse their music is from beautiful ballads like this to super heavy monsters like Consign to Oblivion (Live at the Zenith in Paris) or Essence of Silence (Live in Brussels). So much to explore. Another gorgeous ballad would be either Rivers or Tides of Time. At Omega Alive they did an acapella version of Rivers right before this song and the two were filmed in one continuous shot (this is why Simone steps away from the mic in the beginning). Rivers is beautiful song and there are multiple great versions, from the music video to a live one shot video from Chile that is similar in style to this video to the live performance with Apocalyptica. Unfortunately no great video for Tides of Time so you have to react to the studio version but worth it since it is so stunning. Other great performances from Omega Alive are Unchain Utopia, Skelton Key, and their magnus opus Kingdom of Heaven Part 3. Epica works with the same videographer/photographer, Jens De Vos better known as Jens the Panda. I think he is one of the best videographers out there and always love what he does with Epica. For this particular video he had an assistant who followed him to make sure he didn't accidently step back into the fire. Simone has one of the prettiest voices out there. As a teenager she was taking pop vocal lessons when she heard Tarja singing with Nightwish and switched to classical singing lessons to our great benefit. You should checkout her version of Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid on her YT channel. She becomes a real life Ariel. Looking forward to more Epica.
I hope someone can convince them to do a back to back version: the 2004 from the 2 meter session and the Omega Alive version... Basically it is the same song, just 20 years apart, it shows the development of band and singers.
Excellent reaction Mr & Mrs Coach. What next? Skeleton Key, Kingdom of Heaven Pt3, again from Omega Live, Unleashed, Beyond the Matrix, Rivers (live at the AFAS featuring Apocalyptica) should keep you going for a while. Looking forward to which you chose already,
Great choice. Perfoemance from avirtual concert during lockdown as with Nightwish's Islanders Arms. Like Nightwish I don't think Epica blocks much if at all. A favorite of mine is The Skeleton Key.
