    Davie, I have never seen anyone tie of micro fibbetts as fast and effortlessly as you. This fly is almost an exact copy of our RS2 fly. Though watching how you tie this fly, you're going in the opposite direction of tying the RS2, and I have to say, I like what you're doing here. I may just start tying the RS2 the way you tie this fly to get a better looking tapered body. You sir are such a pleasure to learn from, and I thank you.

      Tidy tie Davie! Auld Cappa from spring water used to go on about a boot lace shuttlecock about 8 years ago. Glad you put it up. Thanks !

    Hi Davie, after many years fishing with soft baits, my 11 years old son and I are starting fly tying together (in France). Your channel is an absolute treasure, thank you so much for sharing all your skills :-)

    Lovely fly Davie. You made it look easy (I might even give it a go myself) Well tied and explained as always. Many thanks for sharing.

    I did enjoy it, Davie... thank you.
    Years ago now, you got me started in tying small flies... the Mayfly/Caddis Emerger. This one will be fun (and easy enough), too.

    There's beauty in simplicity. I really enjoyed the use of simple materials. It's easy to get carried away when in that angling centre he he. Look forward to trying these on the Gryffe for a wee grayling or two. Thanks. Great vid as ever

    If you read the back of the Z-Lon package you'll see in john's own handwriting that it is bootlace. After reading that I've been using bootlace for many things for sometime. I like it especially for shuck material. You can get it in many colors. Great stuff.

    Brillant! Thanks. Will have to look for laces now. However I suspect it will be hard to determine which are made out of z-lon

    Davie
    Have found round polyester laces. Is this what I should be looking for? Or some other material?
    Subscribed, love your stuff👍

      A snippet I learnt during my look into this - nylon has a water regain on 4% while polyester has a water regain of 0.4%. Interesting, have no idea what that means but interesting nonetheless .

      Hi STIMLBER,
      Most of these fibres are designed to be light and if they get wet they dry quick much like most sportswear so adding a floatant works really well...The laces I used are very fine and suit small flies perfectly and I have caught many fish with this pattern since the early 90s..Thank you for subscribing and for the kind words..
      All the very best Davie..

      Hi Tom,
      I'm sorry I'll not get a chance to come up to Glasgow, I hope you have a good time and as well find that bargain...I'm glad you liked the fly as well...
      All the very best Davie..

    Do you happen to know which brands contain z-lon or are all laces made of it?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lolita Pizetti,
      The laces I used were made by a company here in Scotland but unfortunately they no longer trade though Im, sure many laces are made in much the same way so look for a pair the same colour as the one I used in the video and give it a go..
      All the very best Davie..

    What's it like to float after a few fish davie

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Eric,
      As along as you allow your floatant to dry on the fly it will float a long time then all you have to do is give it a clean in the water and dry it and it will keep fishing...I have fished one most of a session on the river only to repack it due to the hook opening out after a few fish..
      All the very best Davie

    Hello Davie!
    As always lovely tied! I really appreciate that you’re sharing your skills and knowledge with the rest of the globe. But I’ve got question: for a certain period of time you were using the regal vise with the stainless steel jaws. Why not anymore? And was it the version with the c-clamp? Hoping that this question is not too personal...
    all the very best
    Damir

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Damir,
      I did like the Regal vice and yes it was the one with the c-clamp which I prefer to the pedestal, as I've always used a c-clamp..Unfortunately I can't use it for health reasons as I get pains in my fingers due to tying for many years, I would recommend a Regal Vise to anyone as they are one of the best you could buy..Thank you for the kind words..
      All the very best Davie..
