    I have the Klein Commander tester it's the big daddy version. My commander test footages lets me know breaks in the cable can tell me if Poe is on it also has a cool feature where I can Flash the port on a switch from my tester and blink that Port slower to identify a cable plugged into it on a live switch. the noise generated on a live switch makes it harder to identify with a probe and this is a handy feature the tester has. it can also save test results that can be downloaded to my laptop and email to the customer after job is completed very professional. This klein tester in the video is cool compact but I like the features of my Klein Commander.its just a better tester saves me time troubleshooting on the job.

      Hi LV dude, was thinking of getting a commander but cannot find any info on what the saved tests are. Does it test for speed as in 100MB tick 1gb tick and maybe fails on 10g and you geta x. Plus gives you POE and VoiP test. Cheers in advance.

    The Electrical & Dat Comm company I work for bought two of these network tester kits from Fluke and paid over $5K each for them. But they are far more elaborate than that one from Klein. (((( But we do mostly new construction and we service a much larger area than you do. (East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Southern West Virginia, Eastern Kentucky, Western North Carolina, and Northern Georgia and Northern Alabama.

    Cable length to fault is a real assett in long run networks like industrial applications. But you will pay much more for that ability. The fluke ms2-100 is 499.00 its big brother is 1250.00

    I have a cheap tester that came with a box of cable (I just make cables for home, not professionally). I found that some cables showed no faults on the tester, but when I test network speed through the cable it was very reduced. Redoing the connectors would fix the issue. Do you know if this tester would identify that situation? maybe the tester I have is just to cheap.

      No. This tester is barely much more than the one that you have. The difference is that this one is also a tone generator and has multiple tone remotes. These are features that you will not use.
      Your lowest cost method is exactly what you are doing already.

    So let's say I have a functioning PoE port in an office. But I don't know which cable that represents on the patch panel. Can I use this device to tone it out? When I used a cheap tone generator, the PoE melted/burned it.

      Tone generator testing should always be done on a 'non-powered' circuit.

      @@FirstLastOne but what if you are trying to trace a cable that you don't know where it goes? Seems like there has to be a better way.

    does this one measure the lenght?, it's very confusing to know wich one has that feature.

      I just got the vdv Scout Pro 3 and it's somewhat confusing to use the cable length feature

    doesn't test to make sure your crimps are good on a single side. You need to have the base on the other end which is not always wanted/needed

    Don’t need a separate tool for phone....RJ11 fits right in the middle of RJ45.

    • @FirstLastOne
      @FirstLastOne 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In most cases you'll bugger a RJ45 if you stick a RJ11 or RJ12 into it so I'd suggest you don't.

      @@adrianengland4563 Thank you for reply. Found it in few stores at around 900$...pretty expensive. Still strange that this model is not present at eBay or Amazon at all, no new, no used. I work at IT department of university supporting network with around 500 devices in it. Currently using cheap simple chinese tester and want to find new tester with "golden point" between price and functionality.
