A Sudanese-American goes to Addis Ababa. I met a lot of wonderful people and most importantly had a lot of coffee, delicious food and great conversations with locals. I hope through these images, the world will have a wider perspective on Africa and its diversity.

I'm from the Caribbean but I will always be African. Love your work. I'm amazed that people still have so many silly misconceptions about African people phenotypically. We are the most diverse people in the world Genetically, Phenotypically and Biocultuarally. Most of us look the way we do naturally. Our features are mirrors reflecting humanity. Africa gave it's genetics to the world not the other way arround.

Adventurous and curious. Mashallah, keep that up. I'm Sudanese, and I grew and I grew up in Ethiopia. Both nations are very similar, and I never felt like an outsider/foreigner when I was there. I consider Addis my second home, and would love to go work there again in the near future. I travel often, and I know a one day layover is isn't enough in a big city - but you made it count! Glad you found the buna and the meat. I'm sure you had many people talk to you in Amharic because they thought you were Ethiopian. It's the East African 4head and warm smiles :p

well done sis. i have been in Ethiopia for four month in 2014. actually i didnt see Addis Abab but i really enjoyed over there...my next holiday will be in Addis .
Very interesting these people look like my family in Jamaica. No I am not a Nubian or East African. We are Creole people in West Indies normally mix with English and West African. Sometimes also with East Indian as my family. Ok I see why lot of people look like Indians.

Every one keeps complaining about the girl negotiating the price but you have to understand your judging from westerners culture.
I don't know how it works in ethiopia but if you were in sudan you would be a fool to pay the full asking price.
the asking price is set high so there is a room for negotiation with the customers.
You're right, but even knowing she was a foreigner he offered her a fair price for some reason, 150birr about $7 USD. She got away paying 10birr (a pittance), the equivalent of $0.40, a quarter of what a decent pack of gum costs.

Thats how it works in ethiopia too, actually she could've get it for 5 birr but she was being nice. I am horrible in negotiations so when I go to Ethiopia I let the locals do the work. They chop that shit in half.

Northern Sudanese look like northern Ethiopians
I have met one South Sudanese, very very dark skinned man, and a Northern Sudanese woman that I thought was Ethiopian because she was light skinned.

Most of the eastern African nations and Yemeni people's pretty much look like each other .not only the physical appearance but our culture and way of life are very similar to one another. not all the east africa, but just the Horn's part of it, with part of Sudan include. And we need to be aware of it, because in USA and Europe they are trying to make us lose our identity by telling us that we are only black for our skin color and this is too superficial

am watching yur video and am mad really , like the place your rooming around is the place where i grow up , and i really wished i was there to show you around , and the shoes store you enter and ask for a place where to get a meat , and he lead you to a super market nahhh way, i was just there few meters from his shop a local butcher well known for the local taste .... it was just a big mis understanding and for sure he wont point a foreigner to a local place ..... i luved your video so much ...it was really fun , though you dont lock you was serious about it .... i hope we meet nxt time at exact spot
